Alpha and Omega... What The Hell Am I Part 1
A woman ran through the forest, as he changed into a mindless beast. The beast charged through the forest before coming across a boy. The boy’s eyes matched her own and so did his claws but he was a human, but it didn’t feel that way. Her innate ability to sense killing intent caused her to back away in fear, but she was surely stronger so how could this boy appear to be a danger to her. The boy attacked her and she could see his power as he attacked with ferocity, he was stronger than any beast she’d run into but as she had thought, she was stronger. She tackled him but he slipped out from under her and gripped her massive neck, his fingers digging into her hide and griping it as she began to shake viciously. She stopped shaking. As the alpha of her pack, she’d know when she was in the presence of her own and oddly she was. She could feel that he belonged with her but she’d never seen this boy in her pack before. But his power was that of a werewolf bearing a full moon, but that didn’t make sense, it would be more than a week before another full moon and eclipses didn’t provide that sort of strength until moments before the eclipse. The boy stopped attacking her as she stopped fighting back. He jumped off and smiled as he began jumping around her. He tackled her biting her neck but she could tell he was holding back trying not to hurt her. He backed off and waited for her to stand… he wasn’t fighting her, he was playing? She was confused but happy.
She sniffed out the boy's home before turning back to normal and upon finding it she hesitated to even bring him in. “This… this was the house I left him at 18 years ago… if he’s experiencing this already then he isn’t safe here.” But she couldn’t take him back to the pack, they would fear him more than her and he was too weak and his control too low now to prove himself to them… but if he could tap into his power without even knowing now then he might be able to use the status ring to help him start to get a handle on his abilities. She slipped the ring onto the energetic adolescent’s finger. She couldn’t enter his home being stuck at the door. “Come on boy, go inside, it’s bedtime.” The boy tilted his head before shrugging and running ups stairs. When she looked through his window he jumped up and started running around in excitement before she walked off. The boy fell asleep and woke up alone in a dark wet room with a beast… his kin he could tell, but the beast was devouring everything in the room without a second thought and eventually it turned and bit down on the boy, he didn’t even get the chance to scream as the massive beast swallowed him the two halves of the boy in an instant.
Heiro woke up today the same way he always did... tired and restless, but today it was for a different reason than the last. Today was his birthday and the day of the eclipse. He planned to take his friends to Disney this weekend but today was the actual day of his birth and was the day of the eclipse. Who else can say they had the anniversary of their birth on the day of an eclipse, just like the one on the day I came into the world... this is so cool. He thought before opening his eyes and immediately realizing that he was oddly energized physically but his mind lagged significantly. He had spent almost every day for as long as he can remember stumbling over to the bathroom, using the toilet, brushing his teeth, and taking a very long shower. He was a sucker for the warmth, his parents hardly ever gave him the warmth of a loving family so he took it from any reliable source, this did not extend to friends... they aren't reliable. he continued to get ready for school.
He stumbled out of the shower and threw on a navy blue tee-shirt, dark blue jeans, and his favorite black leather jacket slung over his shoulder.
Today's gonna be a great day I can feel it, after all, today's the day eclipse, he thought to himself.
He thought, forget the bus, after all, what he lacked in speed he made up for in stamina and he was already almost late, if he could just run the whole way non stop he’d probably be able to make it in ten minutes and he had about fifteen minutes to get to school. He threw on some sneakers, air jordans, jumping down the stairs tripping as he landed spraining his ankle. "Careful!" his mom shouted, but he was already up, pushing through the pain and through the front door. "You forgot your bag Heiro!" His mom called after him.
"It's fine I'll just buy lunch today." He shouted back as he ran off to school, he'd soon remember and realize that his bag carried more than just food. He ran along the road, right by the thick forest. The air was hot as the remnants of summer heated its moisture. On his way, his foot bumped into an elevated edge of the sidewalk, before he knew it his feet were in the air and he began to tumble. "Oh s**t!" he heard several snaps and even he only felt one... his arm, it felt broken. He hissed at the pain before gritting his teeth and slowly making his way to his feet and off the floor. “Damn now my pants are...” he let his words trail off as his attention snapped to more important matters. As soon as he looked up he had noticed a coyote and before he had the chance to do much of anything other than shut up, it pounced on him. "Oh s**t s**t s**t!" It looked irritated and the hunger it felt was palpable. The coyote tried lunging and snapping at him but he twisted out of the way, throwing it off of him as he jumped up to his feet. Howls neared their battle and soon they were surrounded by a pack of wolves clearly led by a massive dark crimson wolf, I had never seen anything like it. I wasn't afraid to die if it was going to be this cool. The odds weren't in his favor, I didn't even know we had wolves in Georgia. That's when he realized, the arm that felt broken felt fine as if it was all in his head, he felt stronger, is this what adrenaline dumps feel like? He ran up to the snarling coyote while it was preoccupied looking at the wolves. When he got close enough he ran and kicked the coyote. he punted it into the air and a pang of guilt struck his heart. Heiro wasn't very violent so the act hurt him to do. He cringed as the coyote fell before the wolves. They began ripping the poor creature apart, tearing into it as Heiro began to sneak away. The alpha noticed him but it didn't seem to want to go for him, in fact, it watched him walk far away before returning to its food. He ran even faster to get to school, the strength in his legs much stronger than before pumping power into his movements.
He made it to the campus; buses still pulling into the large roundabout. There he saw a platinum blonde, blue-eyed beauty, his best friend, “Hey Luna!” He waved at her, calling out to get her attention. She was there gazing at him from across the massive school lawn with a smile, she seemed happy so he ran up and went to hug her, "Hey train wreck, been a while..." That's when his arms wrapped around her, her eyes bulged as she cringed as he held her awkwardly long, wolves, healing, all this energy... am I a superhero? Or no more like wolverine. That makes no sense, these are wolves, not wolverines. "Why are you so wet!? Eww, let me go please.” She shouted, snapping him back to his senses getting him to let go.
"Sorry, lost in thought... but you mean we now blondy? You're like a light skin power girl." He quickly attempted to change the conversation. Although he didn’t want to talk about it it’s was the only thing on his mind. He was a little out of it, he had a weird encounter and figured she wouldn't believe him, maybe Jayna or Kyro would believe him he thought. He chuckled as it was kind of true, she fit the description of a darker supergirl, short dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and an athletic build to match. She also loved everything journalism, sports, and science so the alien super warrior comparison made some sense. She glowered at him before turning away. She looked agitated, ever since she was younger she had been insecure about her hair. She was pretty and blonde so everyone expected her to be dumber, they expected her to be the popular girl that cheats every chance she gets and studies for the tests when it counts. She wasn't that kind of girl and she hated to be referred to by only the color of her hair. He took an obvious guess, "Was it the nickname?"
"I'm not talking to you, I told you not to call me that." She spun away from me and began walking towards the school's courtyard.
I nodded before calling out to her, "I won't apologize... I know that you're hurt and it was my fault but I won't apologize until you learn who you are and are proud of it. You're a blondy, just show them that not all blondes act and are the same."
She stopped in her tracks before sighing, "I get that, but please respect the things I seriously ask you to do. This is not the first time you've thought 'better' and did something it didn't ask for or that was uncalled for." Her words came faster and faster with each moment passing. He nodded and chagrined as the young woman laid into me, giving him a piece of her mind, "You're a hero at heart but sometimes people don't need saving, you don't always have to be the hero." He nodded as she let out a breathless sigh. "I'm sorry I-"
I cut her off rubbing the back of his head, "No... you're right, it's the first day of school, we can't start like this. Let's start over... hey you look nice, come here often?" She chuckled and blushed at his attempt to fix the situation, "How was your summer?"
We walked all the way to the main building, down the halls before we got to our lockers, there she replied. "What do you want? The fact we're having this conversation means you want something. Is it homework, names of some girl, is it money?"
I was hurt, I could tell she meant it mostly as a joke but the fact I had come off to her as the type to always need something kind of hurt, even more so because she was right. "Whoa, harsh first that was was the most one-sided conversation I've ever had."
"Can't be a conversation with only one reply... and you know what I mean... just drop it I'm sorry, didn't mean it like that." She flailed her arms about as she let out another breathless sigh, it was getting on my nerves, I was getting angrier.
"I can't talk to my friend without an ulterior motive now. Come on for one moment can't you believe I just want to talk to you, my childhood friend." He stretched his arms wide as to present himself. I wouldn't drop it, I couldn't.
"Okay, alright, I believe you." She frowned but it tugged up at the corner, she liked the attention, my attention, and if I was being genuine there was no reason to not accept.
Then right before they walked into class, I had to come clean... "Yo Luna what was the homework and are you joining Pyro, Jayna, and me for our lunar eclipse on our favorite hill spot." I tried to get her brain to not focus on the homework half by adding another important question.
"Ughh, you mean project?" He clearly failed, "It was a book report. Also no, the eclipse starts at 9:00 and I work from 6 to 10 remember?" a negative to both his questions, how could I forget... but only one no.
"Oh too bad, so that's a no on the homework?" She rolled her eyes before telling me all the areas she found her information. The rest of school went by so fast, Breezing through Anatomy, Biology, English, Economics, Weight Training, and even Calculus. I then went to my robotics club after school, I was a gamer more than he was a scholar but at the time he thought that joining the robotics and coding club would help him make new games and cool robots. He was clearly wrong. Now, three years later, and he was still just as far away from becoming the badass robot-ninja with a multimillion-dollar game company as he was when he started. It was like the harder he tried the harder it got, the more times he put the effort in the harder they would knock him down. After making two primitive robots fight each other he called an uber to work.
The ride was mostly uneventful but the driver kept looking back at Heiro, he seemed afraid or nervous, like he was in the presence of someone dangerous or important to him, but malice and greed was written plainly on his face, "You smell strong."
Hiding his discomfort Heiro chuckled nervously, "I've been running a lot, I have an extra pair of clothes and some cologne at work so I think I'll be fine."
"No, you know what I mean irregular." the man said flustered at the clear misunderstanding. "You're lucky today is the eclipse, otherwise, we'd be having a different conversation, if you don't eat me I won't let everyone know about you, like knowing where you are."
Okay, what the hell is going on, he thought as his vision blurred. The situation was too surreal for Heiro as he felt a clear danger in this man's words. His words felt too honest but Heiro couldn't make sense of it. This man had to be insane he thought. "I don't know what you're talking about."
The man clicked his tongue, "We're here."
He let the boy out at a large building with steps that took you to a large outdoor concession stand attached to the building, with a large red sign that read 'AMC Theaters Savanna.' It was the hangout spot and where he worked. As his time management side took over he put the weird interactions of the day behind him... “Let’s get to work.”
