Hunter texted me not long after Harper and I had started our walk, prompting us to turn back. Once again, I had to leave Harper locked away in the house, a situation I was growing to hate. No, I'd hated it from the start, but I understood its necessity. She needed to bear my mark before I could allow her freedom. She had to be fully mine, erasing any doubt about her leaving me. Yet Hunter wasted no time in finding ways to involve me more in pack affairs.
"You seem irritated," Hunter remarked after a while.
I didn't respond, just lifting my eyes from the paper in my hand. His intense yellow gaze bore into me, seeing through everything.
"Are you sure you've found a way to manage the bond?" he pressed.
"I'm fine," I replied, returning my gaze to the paper.
