My heart didn't just break when I saw that she had run away. It shattered into a thousand pieces, which was surprising. I didn't think my heart could shatter again after what happened to my sister, but apparently, it could.
So, I quickly got dressed, grabbed my car keys, and got into the car. I had heard the locks turn, but I wanted to see if she was smart enough to come back to bed. When she didn't, I went after her and found her on the road, already wet from the rain, her cheeks flushed from running. She had looked so happy when she saw the car, but when she realized it was me driving, the happiness vanished.
It didn't help that she again tried to run from me. When would it ever stop? Would she never accept me? Or should I reject her? No, there couldn't be anyone but Harper.
