Chapter 18: Derrick's POV
3 Days Later
The Crossing was quiet for a Tuesday evening. I told her she had only twenty four hours but I waited two days. She was reading the contract.
"If I agree to this, if I come back, there are conditions."
"Name them."
I'd agree to anything. She could ask for the moon, and I'd find a way to rip it from the sky and lay it at her feet, she could demand my fortune, my company, my soul and I'd hand it over without hesitation.
"One." She held up a finger.
"I complete the remaining months of the contract. No extensions, no hidden clauses. When the term is up, I walk away, free and clear."
The words hit me like a physical blow.
She wanted out, she was already planning her escape but I expected this much when I attempted to force her back to me.
