CHAPTER 29 Kennedy had never been to Washington before except for some layovers in the Seattle Airport. True to her prediction, Grandma Lucy slept for nearly the entire drive with a handkerchief draped over her face. Ian’s aunt was cheerful and talkative, but Kennedy spent most of the trip staring out the window in silence. She had no idea it was so mountainous out here. Light snow fell on the pass, and she drifted in and out of sleep from the hypnotic sight of the snowflakes falling outside. “Well,” Connie breathed after they turned down what at first seemed to be a never-ending driveway, “we’re here.
