The decision
Eliana POV
I hop between tables taking orders, the rush hour at the restaurant is coming to an end. I scribble on my note pad and make my way to the kitchen where I deliver the orders. I go back to clearing the tables and delivering orders.
Heaving a sigh of relief as I clear the last tables, I sit and switch my phone on. I frown upon seeing two missed calls from my father. I also see a text asking me to come back immediately for an urgent family meeting.
‘‘Are you okay?" my coworker Lily inquires.
‘‘Yeah I'm fine, I'm about heading home" I say while packing my stuff. She bids me bye.
On reaching home, I find my father, mother and elder sister Elma already seated waiting for me. I find that odd because it never happens, they all start without me.
‘‘Eliana why are you late?’’ my father questions angrily.
‘‘ You should have answered his call at least. That is not a proper attitude for a lady’’ my sister quips.
Mom beams at her, their ‘beloved’ daughter while I am the unethical one.
‘‘Anyways, I have good news for you. You know how much we have sacrificed for you, it is now time for you to pay us back. I'm in debt with Damien Fisher and he has agreed to let it go for one condition’’ Father says.
I frown, why Damien Fisher of all people, the man is rumoured to be cold and ruthless. He is the most feared man in ****** city. And I wonder what the condition is and what it has to do with me.
‘‘He wants to take you. It will be such an honour...’’
‘‘Me?’’I shriek cutting him off, ignoring the disapproving looks from my mother and Elma, my sister.
‘‘ Yes you.’’ he says.
‘‘Father, no you can't do this to me. There has to be another way.’’ Marrying the man who is like a monster is the least of my dreams.
‘‘ Ungrateful child, do you know how much we have sacrificed for you?’’ father says coldly.
‘‘Why not Elma?’’ I cry.
‘‘Shut up, it has already been decided'' my mother says.
Amidst my tears, I see Elma smiling as she explains how it is for the best while my parents nod.
‘‘What about my job, my dreams?'' I ask, even though I know fully well that they do not care. They only care about Elma, their star child.
‘‘You won't need those when you have your husband. Who knows, if you please him well he might take care of you'' father smirks.
He knows fully well that Damien is incapable of that but he says it to taunt me, to show how unwanted I am. But I won't give them that satisfaction.
‘‘Ok, can I leave?'' I ask. They nod shocked by my reaction. I leave for my room and once I'm in the comfort of my room I look up Damien Fisher.
There is hardly any news on him other than his numerous acquisitions of companies. He is also not on any social media platform. Ugh.
My mother knocks lightly and waltz into the room talking about dress shopping and beauty treatments. She complains about my hair like she always does saying it's unruly and unpresentable.
I tune her out as she drones on how to behave around him.
‘‘ Be ready for tomorrow, he is coming’' she says as she leaves.
I stay up late hatching my plan to scare him off. I dye my hair blue and search for my most unflattering clothes and pull out an old cargo shorts and a big t-shirt and flip flops.
I can't wait to see my mother's reaction and most importantly, his.
