66 Adam knew he was drawing power from somewhere, from someone other than Harlan, to keep running as he was. But once he saw Harlan’s attacker slipping away on the river, he didn’t care where the power was coming from—only that he had it. And he would use it. He kept his eyes on the uneven ground, watched it flash by beneath his feet. Adam’s chest ached, his boots felt heavy, and the rushing in his ears was indistinguishable from the river next to him, but nothing could stop him. The dock was just ahead.
