16 There’s nothing like wearing vomit to give you confidence while being questioned by the police. Adam had realized that a few hours ago, first left alone in a room. There was no clock, but he’d remained alone long enough to notice an odor and sincerely wish he’d changed T-shirts before coming in. The fluorescent lights made him feel hungover. The state trooper who’d picked Adam up had returned to question him. Adam explained that he’d been sick (he could’ve sworn he saw the trooper look at his shirt then) and that he wasn’t entirely clear on all of the events of the evening.
