Chapter 50Emery “Oh, for the love of…” Yet another potato slipped out of Emery’s hand and dropped into the pile of peelings in the trash can. She fished it out angrily and washed it clean before handing it to her mother. “What’s troubling you, my dear daughter?” With little else to do, and in an attempt to keep her mind off Lina and Kim, Emery had offered to help with dinner preparations, even though her cooking skills were sadly lacking. “I thought you’d be happy now that you have a job lined up, and a few apartments in mind. Let me guess. Something to do with Lina?” Emery thought she’d been acting normal enough, but there was no way she could ever hide her feelings from her mother. Her mother was right. She should be happy. Her academic goals had been achieved, and she was on her way
