Chapter:02TheNightHeComeBack

724 Words
The night was cold, but not as cold as his eyes. Elara stood frozen at the edge of the Blackwood territory, her breath forming small clouds in the air. Three years. Three years she had been banished, called weak, wolfless, worthless. And now the same forest that had rejected her was calling her back. A howl cut through the silence. Not just any howl. His howl. Alpha Kael. Her mate. Her rejector. Her heart slammed against her ribs. Her wolf, who had been silent for years, suddenly whimpered inside her. Weak, but alive. "I know you're here, Elara," his voice came from the shadows, deep and rough like gravel. "I can smell you." She stepped out, chin high despite her trembling hands. She was not the same crying girl he had thrown out of the pack house. She was stronger now. She had survived alone. Kael emerged from the trees. Moonlight hit his face, making his silver hair glow and his golden eyes burn. He was bigger, more dangerous than she remembered. The Alpha of all Alphas. And he was looking at her like she was a ghost. "You... you have a wolf now?" He frowned, inhaling. His eyes widened. "Impossible. You were wolfless." Elara smiled bitterly. "A lot is impossible, Alpha. Like a mate rejecting his Luna on her 18th birthday in front of the whole pack. But you did that." Guilt flashed in his eyes for a second, then it was gone, replaced by his usual cold mask. "I had to. You were weak. A pack cannot have a weak Luna." "And now? Why are you searching for a weak girl in the middle of the night?" He took a step closer. She didn't move back. She refused to show fear. "Because since the night I rejected you, I haven't slept," he growled, his voice low. "Because every full moon, my wolf claws at me to find you. Because my new... fiancee.. cannot calm my wolf. Only you can." Elara's blood turned to ice. "Fiancee?" "Daughter of the Northern Alpha. A political alliance. The elders arranged it after you left." Of course. He had moved on. He had replaced her. A sharp pain shot through her chest, but she swallowed it. "Then go back to her, Kael. I am not yours anymore. You rejected me, remember? You broke our bond." "I tried!" He suddenly shouted, his control breaking. He grabbed her shoulders, but not roughly, desperately. "I tried to break it, Elara! But it didn't break! Look!" He pulled down the collar of his black shirt. On his neck, right over his heart, was still the faint, silver mark of rejection - a scar that only appears when an Alpha rejects his true mate but the Moon Goddess does not accept the rejection. Elara gasped. The mark was still there. It meant the bond was still alive. It meant he was still hers, and she was still his. "If the bond is still alive, why am I still wolfless? Why did I suffer?" Tears finally broke through her anger. Kael's thumb wiped a tear from her cheek. His touch was warm, and it sent electricity through her whole body. "You're not wolfless anymore, are you?" He whispered. "I can feel her. She's waking up. Because you're near me." At that moment, Elara felt it. A surge of power, hot and wild, rising from deep inside her belly. Her eyes flashed - not the normal blue, but a piercing, icy silver-white that no ordinary wolf had. The trees around them rustled even without wind. Kael stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock and fear. "What... what are you?" He whispered. Elara looked at her own hands, which were glowing faintly with silver light. Her wolf was not just awake. It was something ancient. Something legendary that the elders only whispered about. The White Wolf. The Alpha of all Lunas. Thought to be extinct for a thousand years. And she was standing right in front of the Alpha who had called her weak. She looked up at him, her silver eyes glowing in the dark. "You said a pack cannot have a weak Luna, Alpha Kael," she said, her voice echoing with two voices - hers and her wolf's. "So tell me... can your pack handle a Luna who is stronger than its Alpha?"
