Chapter:01TheForgottenBirthday
Chapter 1: The Forgotten Birthday .The smell of roasted meat and fresh bread filled the entire packhouse, but none of it was for me.
Today was my eighteenth birthday. The day every werewolf waits for. The day we can finally meet our mate, feel our wolf for the first time, and become a true member of the pack.
For everyone else, it was a celebration. For me, it was just another day to be forgotten.
I, Elena, the adopted daughter of Alpha Richard. The girl with no wolf. The girl with no scent.
"Elena! Get the dishes from the kitchen, now!" Luna Margaret's sharp voice cut through my thoughts.
I quickly wiped my hands on my old apron and ran to the kitchen. My foster sister, Chloe, was sitting at the grand table, wearing a beautiful red dress. She was turning eighteen next week, and her birthday party was already being planned for seven days.
My birthday? Not even a single candle.
"You are so slow, you useless thing," Chloe sneered as I placed the plates in front of her. "Did you think we would celebrate your birthday? An orphan like you? Who would want you as a mate? You don't even have a wolf. You are worse than a human."
I kept my head down. I had learned years ago not to answer back.
Alpha Richard entered the dining hall, looking powerful and cold. He didn't even glance at me. "Chloe, my princess, your dress for the Moonlight Ball is ready. The Alpha of the Blood Moon pack will be there. He is looking for his Luna."
Chloe giggled. "Really, father? Alpha Marcus? But I heard he is ruthless and cold."
"And that is why he needs a strong Luna like you," Richard said proudly.
I stood in the corner, invisible. My chest ached. Eighteen years in this pack, and I was still nothing.
That night, I couldn't take it anymore. I ran out of the packhouse, into the dark forest behind it. The forest where I was found. I ran until my legs gave out.
"Why? Why did you leave me here? What is wrong with me?" I cried to the moon above. The full moon was shining brightly, mocking me.
Suddenly, a twig snapped behind me.
I froze. A pair of glowing golden eyes were staring at me from the darkness. A huge, black wolf, bigger than any wolf I had ever seen in our pack. Its fur was as dark as midnight.
I should have been terrified. But I didn't. I felt safe.
The wolf stepped closer. Its scent hit me. Pine, rain, and something wild that made my heart beat so fast it hurt.
And then, I heard a voice in my head. Mine.
The wolf shifted. In a blur of shadows and light, the huge wolf was gone, and a man stood in its place. He was tall, with broad shoulders and black hair. His golden eyes were still glowing, fixed on me. His chest was bare, covered in scars.
He looked at me, and his eyes widened in shock.
"Mate," he growled, his voice low and rough.
My world stopped.
"Me? The girl with no wolf?"
"I am Alpha Marcus of the Blood Moon Pack," he said. "And you are my mate. My Luna."
Alpha Marcus. The ruthless Alpha who rejects everyone. And he was calling me his mate.
But before I could respond, a sharp, searing pain shot through my body. It felt like my bones were breaking, like fire was running through my veins.
I screamed and fell to the ground.
Marcus was beside me in an instant, catching me. "What is happening to you?"
In my head, I heard a faint voice, a voice that was not mine. It was weak, but it was there.
Finally... you found him... Let me out...
My eyes, which had always been a dull brown, suddenly flashed a brilliant, icy blue. And for the first time, I heard my wolf.
