Chapter 01 Ivy Ezra. “Yeah, you can stop just at that spot.” I told the cab man that was driving me home. The day had started like any other day and I had spent hours at work dreaming of the moment I could go home, kick off my shoes, and see Henry. He was the kind of boyfriend who made the world feel safe, steady and all I could ever need. My best friend died and ever since then I have never felt whole again because after my parents, she was the next person in line. I had stopped by the store on my way home, picking up some of his favorite snacks. Well, you could ask why out of all the good things in the world, I choose snacks. He always got so excited over small things like that, and I couldn't wait to see his grin. But as I walked up the door to our apartment, something felt off. Too off and unusual. The air felt so heavy and a scent hit me before I even pressed on the lock of our apartment. I felt reluctant to open the door but I opened it anyway, dropping off the negative thoughts I was having. “Henry?” I called out as I stepped inside, my eyes searching the room. The apartment was dark, except for the little glow coming from the kitchen and spilling into the living room. That's when I saw him. He was crouched over something…..no, I couldn't miss the body. It was someone. A woman was laying on the floor with a limp and lifeless body, blood pooling from her tummy. Henry knelt beside her, his hands filled with so much thick blood and his t-shirt that I always had problems with washing was also stained. “Henry!” I screamed, dropping the grocery bag. The sound of the cans scattered on the floor as I gasped, my hand covering my mouth in utmost disbelief. I watched him freeze at the sound of my voice, then slowly turned his head toward me. His eyes locked onto mine, and my stomach twisted into knots. They weren't his usual hazel eyes…..they glowed an Amber, burning with intensity that froze me in place. I couldn't believe my own eyes. My steps retreated backwards while I shook my head, trying not to believe what I was seeing. “Ivy,” he called out in a cold, cruel voice that I never thought about. “What…. What's going on? I stuttered, taking a step back. My gaze darted between him and the woman, her pale face was a pool of red. Henry slowly stood up in a deliberate movement, like he had seen his prey. The light caught on his hands, and I saw it-the claws-long, curved, and dripping with blood. “You weren't supposed to be here,” he said with a loud groan. Why do you come least expected? I wanted him done with this bullshit but instead of keeping yourself safe, you still came in.” “Came in? Keeping myself safe? What do you mean?” I asked, my voice wavering as I backed away fearfully. “Henry, what's happening? Who…who is she? What have you done?” I asked, tears gathering down my eyes. “She saw too much,” he said in a cold tone, it was devoid of the warmth I had come to always love. “I had no choice.” His words were unbelievable. I couldn't believe someone I had given my love to could be a murderer. “No choice?” My voice broke. “Henry, she…. She's dead! You killed her! W…with God knows what.” I yelled, the tears I was holding started to stream down my face. “She was a threat!” he snapped at me, his eyes flashing brighter. “To me. To us.” I shook my head, my body trembling as fear engulfed me in place. “What are you talking about? A threat to what? Henry, this isn’t you. You’re scaring me. I am not in my mind right now.” He stepped closer, and I instinctively backed into the wall. My heart was racing, pounding so hard I thought it might burst if this ever continues. “This is me, Ivy,” he said, his voice lower now, almost calm. “This is who I’ve always been.” “What?” I whispered, tears streaming down my face. “I didn’t want you to find out like this,” he continued, his claws retracting slightly as he held his bloodied hands out toward me. “But I couldn’t let her expose me. I had to do it.” “Expose you?” I repeated after him, my voice laced with unbelief. I tried to get along with what he had just said but it still didn't make any sense to me. My eyes darted toward the window, where the decorated curtains that were always perfect, had been ripped apart. Outside, I caught sight of something…..tattered clothes and scraps of fur across the balcony. Realization hit me like a ton of bricks “You’re… you’re a…” “A werewolf,” he finished for me, his voice heavy with confidence. The world seemed like it would crumble on me soon. His words hung in the Air, surreal and impossible. This wasn't real. It couldn't be. Henry wasn't some mythical creature. He was just Henry. My Henry. All of this was just a dream. He wouldn't be here with a blood soaked hand. No! “No,” I disagreed, shaking my head violently. “No, this is insane. You are lying. Yes, you are. I know.” But he only smiled bitterly, shaking his head. “I wish I were,” he said, his expression softening just for a moment. “I wanted to protect you from this. From me. To make things hidden. But now….” His voice trailed off as he looked back at the woman on the floor. “You killed her, Henry,” I said with a trembling voice. “You killed her, and now you're telling me you're a monster? H….how does that even make sense to you? C…can you be open?” “I had no choice,” he repeated, his voice growing colder again. “She found out what I was. If she told anyone….” “So, what?” I interrupted, my fear giving way to the anger. “You just kill people who find out? I ….is that what you're going to do to me?” I asked, fear gripping my soul as I shook my head. His silence was killing me. I wanted him to say something. Change my mind and tell me all I was thinking was a dream but he just stood there. “Henry! Answer me! You are going to do that to me too? You will kill me b…bec…” I shook my head in Disbelief. I took a shaky step toward the door when he didn't give a reply, but he was faster. Before I could reach the handle, he was in front of me, blocking my path. “Don't,” he said in a low, dangerous voice. “Henry, please,” I pleaded, my voice breaking as I knelt down with my hand clamped to each other. “You don't really need this. Let me go. I won't tell anyone, I swear. We could be the love of our life without anyone stopping each other. I won't even utter a word. Just please, don't. I can unsee what I have seen today. “I can't risk it,” he said, his amber eyes locking onto mine. “You have seen too much. Too much more than anyone has. Even your best friend only saw my claws and threatened me, she was going to tell everyone what I was and I killed her and dropped her at the roadside without any trace.” He revealed, causing my eyes to open widely, flabbergasted by the revelation. “Wh…what did you just say, Henry? Y..you killed my best friend? Y…you killed Elizabeth? How dare you, Henry? Do you think people are just water, huh? You saw me in tears and all and you still act like a saint.” I screamed, agitated with the situation, forgetting that I would soon be dead. “I am not talking about this with you today, Ivy. I just told you I can't risk it.” Tears streamed down my face as I tried to push past him, but his grip was like iron. Strong that I had started to feel the pain. “Henry, I love you,” I sobbed, desperation obvious in my voice. “I will do whatever you asked for. Please, don't do this. We can figure it out. W…we can fix this and become the best lover.” However, his expression remained cold and unreadable, but even though he tried to hide the regret and pain, it still didn't let it reign. “If not for anything. Think of the love we had shared together, Henry.” I pleaded in fear. “I'm sorry, Ivy,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Before I could scream, his claws plunged into my chest. The pain was sharp and unforgiving. I gasped, my vision blurring as blood filled my mouth. I had watched the man I loved murder me, right in my eyes just because I found out about his secret, without mercy. The last thing I saw was his face- his amber eyes filled with sorrow, his lips moving as if to say something. But I couldn't hear him. Tears trickled down the corner of my eyes and my world faded to black, the pain piercing through my heart. Why Alex?
