Episode 1: A Stranger in the Moonlight
The sound of Alyssa’s heels echoed against the cobblestone street as she made her way through the quiet town square. The evening breeze carried the faint aroma of pine and the distant hum of a full moon night. She was coming back from her evening shift at The Copper Lantern, Crescent Pines’ cozy but bustling diner. Though it was a small town, she had always taken pride in her work, even if the routine sometimes felt stifling.
Alyssa adjusted the strap of her leather bag over her shoulder, her sleek silhouette illuminated by the soft glow of the streetlamps. She sighed. It had been another day of polite smiles and predictable conversations, and though she’d grown up in privilege, she worked at the diner by choice. Wealth didn’t excite her—it was freedom she craved, the kind of life where every day wasn’t so… normal.
But tonight felt different.
She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but the air was heavier, charged with an almost electric tension. It was quiet—too quiet, even for Crescent Pines. She glanced over her shoulder instinctively, a twinge of unease creeping up her spine. The town square, usually serene, felt unfamiliar. The shadows seemed to stretch longer, darker, and somewhere in the distance, she thought she heard the faint crunch of footsteps.
“Get it together,” Alyssa muttered under her breath, shaking off the unease.
But the sound came again—closer this time. Her hand tightened around the strap of her bag as she stopped and turned sharply. Her breath hitched.
Someone was standing at the edge of the square, partially hidden in the shadows between two buildings. He was tall, his figure impossibly still, as though carved from stone. His face was obscured by the darkness, but his presence was undeniable, almost magnetic.
“Can I help you?” Alyssa called out, her voice steady but edged with a confidence that masked her nerves.
The figure stepped forward into the dim light, and Alyssa’s chest tightened. His features came into view—a strong jawline, tousled dark hair, and piercing eyes that seemed to glow faintly in the moonlight. He was the most handsome man she’d ever seen, but there was something about him—something raw, untamed—that made her heart race.
“I didn’t mean to startle you,” he said, his voice deep and smooth, with an edge of something she couldn’t quite place. “You just seemed… out of place, walking alone this late.”
“I’m fine,” she replied, her tone cool but polite. She wasn’t one to be easily intimidated. “I don’t scare that easily.”
His lips curved into a small smile, but his gaze remained intense. “Good to know.”
There was a pause, the air between them heavy with an unspoken tension. Alyssa held his gaze, refusing to look away. She had no idea who this man was, but she wasn’t about to let him intimidate her.
“Are you new here?” she asked finally, breaking the silence.
“In a way,” he replied cryptically. “I’m passing through.”
“Right. Well, enjoy your stay,” she said, brushing past him. She wasn’t sure if it was bravery or stubbornness, but she refused to let him rattle her.
As she walked away, she could feel his eyes on her, lingering like a touch. She told herself not to look back, but the pull was too strong. Just as she turned her head slightly, she saw him disappear into the shadows as silently as he had appeared.

By the time Alyssa arrived at the diner the next morning, the encounter from the previous night was still fresh in her mind. She hadn’t mentioned it to anyone—not even her best friend, Sophie, who would’ve insisted on interrogating every detail.
The Copper Lantern was its usual hub of chatter and clinking plates, but Alyssa couldn’t shake the memory of those eyes.
“Earth to Alyssa,” Sophie’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She was leaning against the counter, her auburn hair pulled into a messy bun.
“Sorry,” Alyssa said, forcing a smile. “What’s up?”
“You tell me. You’ve been spacing out all morning,” Sophie teased. “You okay?”
“Yeah, just tired.”
Before Sophie could press further, the bell above the diner’s door jingled, signaling a new customer. Alyssa turned toward the door, her breath catching in her throat.
It was him.
The stranger from the square walked in, his presence commanding the room without a word. Dressed in a simple black jacket and dark jeans, he looked effortlessly out of place in the small-town diner, like a wolf among sheep.
Their eyes met, and a flicker of recognition passed between them. He smirked, a knowing, almost playful expression that sent a shiver down Alyssa’s spine.
“Morning,” he said, his voice smooth and deliberate.
Alyssa’s heart raced, but she kept her composure. “Table for one?”
“For now,” he replied, his gaze lingering on her a moment longer than necessary.
As she led him to a table near the window, she couldn’t help but wonder who he was—and why, out of all the places in the world, he’d ended up here.
Later that evening, Alyssa decided to clear her head with a walk through the woods behind her family’s estate. The trees stood tall and silent, their branches swaying gently in the cool night breeze. The woods had always been her sanctuary, a place where she could escape and think.
But tonight, they felt different.
She heard it before she saw it—a low growl, deep and guttural, that stopped her in her tracks. Her heart pounded as she scanned the darkness, her breath catching when she saw the faint glow of eyes watching her from the shadows.
A wolf.
It was massive, its fur as dark as the night, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. Alyssa froze, her instincts screaming at her to run, but something kept her rooted to the spot.
The wolf stepped closer, its movements slow and deliberate. But just as it emerged fully from the shadows, something—or someone—called it back.
The sound was faint but commanding, and the wolf stopped, turning its head as if listening. Then, without warning, it disappeared into the woods, leaving Alyssa standing there, her heart racing and her mind reeling.
She didn’t know what she’d just witnessed, but one thing was certain—her quiet, predictable life in Crescent Pines was about to change forever.
