THE MEETING
Ava left the house, her mind reeling from what she had heard, questioning deep within her heart, the decisions that she had made, the risk that she had taken to be with Theodore.
The ringing tone disrupted her from her thoughts, checking the caller ID, She had a frown on her face as she placed the phone in her ears.
“The promotion night was one of the blissful moments I met you, can’t wait to experience it again” His voice rang through the phone.
“It was a business dinner, don’t allow thoughts to emerge from your heart” He added.
The line disconnected leaving Ava in a state of confusion.
“Where have I missed it” Ava wondered
"Was he worth it?" She thought within her.
Tears ran down her cheek as she remembered the reckless decision that she had made to be with Theodore.
"He's not worth the tears" she heard soothing words and she sighed.
She had thought that his actions were genuine, the charming smiles, the waves of laughter, the whispered promises, she was a young girl who was in love and she failed to notice the dark hearts behind the glamour.
The ticking clock brought her back to reality, Mia turned to look at her friend and wondered what had changed.
Mia noticed the expression on her face and took a deep breath before saying
"You were chosen as an ambassador for Catalyst Wear"
A shocked look could be seen on Ava's face, her countenance brightened as she headed towards the direction where she was going to take the photo shoot.
The duo headed towards their destined places as they realized that reporters had surrounded the place, there was one thing that Ava had tried to escape from since she had threaded on this path were the reporters.
She viewed them as death's door as she knew that every word that was spoken out of their mouth had double meanings - it had the potential to build you up and it could destroy you.
Rumors spread by the reporters could bring down a top supermodel to ruins.
She was about to bring out her mask and cover her face when a hand stopped her
"You can't be running away from this you know, sooner or later, you'll learn how to face this challenge with open arms," Mia said.
Ava gave a one-sided smile, feeling defeated all of a sudden, she was known to be a critical thinker and was known for winning cases on criticism, she took a deep breath as she realized that she had never won a case with the one that stood beside her.
Catalyst company stood in its glory as "Catalyst wear" was coated in gold, silver, and onyx stones. The duo entered inside the company as camera flashes blinded Ava's eyes.
"You'll get used to this," Mia said, but her expression suddenly turned solemn, remembering the words that had sprung out of Ava's mouth earlier.
Ava care less as she was determined to enjoy this scenery, she knew that this was the last time she would see a place that was as glamorous as this.
They headed to the manager's office as Ava's heartbeat increased every passing moment.
The walk to the manager's office seemed longer than usual, Mia noticed the tense situation that Ava was in, and initiated a conversation with her to make her calm, after a while, she noticed the look on Ava's face and knew that her mission was a success.
Mia knocked at the door of the manager's office.
"Come in" a voice replied from the inside.
Opening the door, Ava glanced through the magazines that were scattered all over the place and she was amazed at the things she saw.
The manager's eyes had been on her ever since she stepped foot into the office, he couldn't care less about what was going on in her mind as the only thing on his agenda was to coerce her to be the spokesman of the deal.
Different emotions ran through her as she was at a loss of what to do, she had wanted to retire honorably and not on a black book but she had realized that it was going to be impossible.
She never knew that the manager had a deeper reason why he had chosen that particular shoot it was against her ethics and she was not willing to bow down to anyone, not now, not in the nearest future.
"I won't do it," Ava said, her voice deviant as she stared deeply into the manager's eyes.
The manager was dumbfounded as he had not expected the outcome, he thought that she was an easy prey to catch, he smirked as he opened his mouth and began to pour out words.
"There are benefits in signing this contract" his words were soothing and alluring, anyone who had heard the voice would have fallen victim.
Ava shook her head as she insisted
"I'm not going to sign it"
Mia looked at Ava, a smirk reaching her lips when she realized that there was something different about Ava, although it was still at its growth stage, Mia smiled as she knew that she had found a job to do.
The manager was dumbfounded and shocked at the same time, he thought that Ava was an easy prey that would fall into the trap not knowing that Ava was a hard nut to c***k and was not someone that could fall into one's trap easily.
"There's no need of hiding what is already opened, shameless slut" The manager said.
Anger boiled in her and she was confused about what to do, before one could say, Jack Robinson, Mia had landed the one who had uttered such vile words a smile on his face.
The manager was surprised as he had no idea that Mia was a feisty one.
"Let's leave" Without adding another word, she dragged Ava out of the office as a deeper confusion was seen on Ava's face.
Mia saw the look on Ava's face and sighed, "I had to take you out of the way before you did something drastic that would have threatened his position". Mia said
The confusion in Ava's eyes ceased as she took in a deep breath and headed towards Theodore's house, Mia did not know what the hell she was thinking but she followed suit.
Ava arrived at Theodore's place and she overheard the news that the news that made her stop in her tracks
"I never loved her, she was only but a pawn in the game of chess.”
“ Was all my sacrifices worth it?” Ava thought to herself as she pondered on these words
