Sin of Lust by Swapie Achilles
CHAPTER XII
OCTOBER
Studying has become one of their routines, they are all doing their chores before they get to study and after that they will get to play to their hearts content. And this all went smoothly for all of them and the rest of the minsters and nuns, who was against of it especially Daleon when he said they don’t have enough money for that.
Some ministers agreed with him, since the money they are receiving from donations are going to the church and some are for the expenses inside of the orphanage from food to the other necessities.
But Mary Jane along with Gregoria made an argument that they don’t need an excessive amount of money for them to be able to learn, and this was supported by Sister Marga, the most intimidating nun of them all.
Marga told her point that children needs to learn at least to write and read for they will never be kids forever, the time will come and they will have to leave and go to the world, outside the comfort of the orphanage’s walls. No one was able to make any retort to them when she spoke.
In the orphanage no one was able to read and write for there’s no one willing to take up the task to teach the kids, and the children also didn’t mind that until now Blanche, Melody, and Micah opens the topic up.
Now that sister Mary is there along with the help of others, the children now know how to write their own names. Everything is going to their plan, teaching the kids to think and how to utilize their minds, until one day Micah felt something is off with Melody.
Micah didn’t bother to talk to her sister about it since she thought she’s just having a bad day and it was nothing serious.
But Melody’s usual cheerful demeanor has become gloomy to the point that even the gullible Blanche noticed it despite her tries to make herself livelier and gay. She sometimes gets caught by her sister walking back to their room in the middle of the night going back to their quarters from nowhere but when she asked her what happened she smiled at her and told her it was nothing.
It goes night after night, sometimes once a week and sometimes a whole week. This made Micah grew concern about her sister. Yet even though she can feel something is wrong, she didn’t’ force her to tell her and wait for her to bring it up. But it all went downhill when she found her once again going back to their shared room in the middle of the night with dripping wet hair as if she just took a shower.
“Melody!” she shouted and runs towards her. “Where were you? What are doing outside our bedroom at this hour?”
Micah hastily pulled her inside the linen room to get a dry towel to dry off her wet hair, “What if sister Marga saw you!” she whispers yelled and immediately threw a towel and rubs it vigorously.
Melody remain silent, she didn’t even bother to look at her in the eyes.
“Can you please tell me what’s happening here?!” Micah raised her voice, “I don’t know where you’re going and I don’t have any idea what you’re doing!” her voice starts to crack as her eyes starts to swell with tears.
“It’s none of your business,” Melody finally lift her head and look at her, her eyes are dull and her lips are pale and the only thing that brought colors on it is a bruise.
Micah kneeled in front of her sister and look closely at the bluish purple on the side of her lips, “where did you get this?!” she asked in pure concern.
She confronted her and forced her to tell her that moment what happened, but she just pushed her away. “I said it’s none of your business!” she pushed her so hard that Micah stumbled on the ground.
“I didn’t ask for your help!” she shouted and then she stood up to look to her twin sister who’s on the floor, letting the towel drop.
Her fists are in a tight clutch, so tight that her knuckles turn white.
“Melody…” Micah trailed, her eyes show fear and concern at the same time as she sees her teeth gritting.
So, Micah told Mary Jane about their slight argument, and this made the nun grew worry, especially the fact that Melody is walking back to their room in the middle of the night when she took a bath.
“Why would Melody take a bath at night?” she asked herself. The nun investigated what happened.
Thus, she learned that Daleon was taking advantage if her every time Micah see her sauntering around at night, that were the time where the wolf devours a sheep. She doesn’t know until now, that Melody has been like that from the moment they went together to put up the advertisement poster.
“Why… why didn’t you tell me?” she kneeled in front of her petite figure. She holds her arms both sides and there she realized that she did lose weight since she and her twin sister have almost the same type of physique to which she easily compare.
Melody force herself to smile even though her eyes tells that she’s not getting enough sleep and her skin doesn’t have the same glow it has before, it’s almost like she’s been drained, “I was afraid. I was afraid that if I tell anyone, he will come after them. I was afraid that if I went out and tell you what happened he will come after you. I… I was so afraid that one of you will be… I was so scared…” she chokes out.
Mary Jane’s eyes are wide as saucer from what she heard, she can’t help but to hug her and let her arms wrapped around the kids’ petite body, trying to stick all the broken pieces of her soul back together. Although her hug couldn’t lift all the pain she suffered behind closed doors, she hopes that she can get comfort from her warmth.
“Melody…” she trailed, her name rolls out of her mouth as if she’s going to be gone.
“I’m alright… Sister Mary Jane. You don’t have to worry about me.” She whispered so weakly, she wrapped her arms around the nun and nuzzle her head on her neck.
Even though how many times she attempted to hide her pain and told her that she’s alright- she’s not.
“But why?” Mary Jane gently pulled her away from her and asked her, “I was sure that I am watching you. So, this won’t happen…why? How can this happen?”
“I… Daleon… he…” she quivers, too weak and too petrified to even say his name, even though they are surrounded by the thick walls of linen inside the linen area.
The pitiful child forced herself not to cry but it’s too heavy for her. She gripped her head and pulled her hair so hard as compensation from straining her mind as she remembers how it all started.
The pulling turns into a series of clawing her scalp, wounding her head in the process. Her fingernails are now tainted with her own blood.
Mary Jane held her wrist and tries to stop her from going too far, “Melody… Melody, Melody please, that’s enough…” she begged her to stop tearing her skin.
But the nun’s soothing voice wasn’t enough to lull her from her nightmares that keeps on popping every time she sees the beast. Though she was able to pull her hand away.
“Melody. You can cry it out.” Mary Jane hugs he tighter and pat her head and let the kid’s sobs be muffled on her shoulder. “Just let it all out, I’m here.” She whispered.
“He’s… Micah…” her hands gripped the shirt of the nun from trying too much to suppress her wails and bawls, “I saw him looking at her… and I have to, before he…”
She can’t finish what she’s saying for she collapsed from all the build-up emotion. For the last time she pats her head and wrapped her in a blanket before carrying her to bed.
She doesn’t have to hear all the things that have happened, those few words she manages to slip from her bruised lips are enough to tell her whole pain.
“She must have suffered so much…” she tucks in on her bed and held her hand before she leaves and decided to talk to Micah.
She closed the door with newly found determination to end this all. But it immediately flew out of the window…
“Do you really think I will never know?” the moment she exits the door and closes it a voice breath out that sends shivers down to her spine.
She didn’t have to turn around to see who’s talking because there’s only one man who have such menacing voice. “Do you think I am dumb? Tell me, how much do you know now?” he asked once more.
But the nun was too terrified to talk, to even turn around and face him. thus, he grips her shoulder hard and force to face him, “Tell me…” he growled under his greeted teeth.
However, Mary Jane can’t handle his presence and this rendered her speechless. Daleon grips her tenser and pressed her hard on the door, trapping her.
“If you’re not going to tell me-!” his words were instantly cut off.
