Chapter 5: Princess clumsy

1178 Words
"Do I have to be here today?" I asked my friend who had dragged me out of my house on a fine Friday evening which could've been spent writing music or listening to songs peacefully in my room. "Everyone from our class is attending. It's our seniors' farewell party after all. Show some school spirit." I simply rolled my eyes and scowled at him sulkily. Even I didn't know why I had agreed to go there . I mean, its not as if I was particularly close to any of my high school seniors, I only knew a couple of them; those who played basketball with me. The party was on in full swing when I reached there. The backyard of one of the most popular cafe in our town among teens was filled with high school students standing in groups and chatting, dancing to music, eating, clicking pictures- you name it. I usually didn't attend such parties- I hate crowds. So I nodded my hello to some of my acquaintances and picked a spot near the pale pink colored brick wall of the café and sat on one of the chairs kept there. The table in front of me was filled with half-empty plates of food and a couple of half filled glasses. It was then that I noticed a particular girl accidentally entangle her outstretched hand on the bright yellow colored fairy lights hanging on one of the trees. An all-too familiar yet unfamiliar girl. Almost all heads turned to look at her who sheepishly smiled and bowed, "I'm so sorry everyone!" She then proceeded to disentangle it from her hand and tried to restore them to their old position. A girl who I had often seen hanging around her at school; the one who had rushed to prevent her from tripping and falling on her first day rushed to help her. "Princess Clumsy what did you do now? I can never leave you alone for one minute, can I?" They both giggled. 'Princess Clumsy' had a very lovely laugh. "May I help you ladies?" I saw John Lee approach them with a smirk. 'What a jerk' "Oh, thank you." I could see her friend blush red. Honestly, I never really understood why girls even liked a sleazeball like John Lee. Sure, he had good looks but do looks only matter? Well, I guess even though everyone says not and that 'don't judge a book by it's cover', at the end of the day everyone knows that that is just bookish language and not the case in such a materialistic world such as ours. I saw John Lee talk and flirt with them and it did make me a bit angry (Okay who am I kidding here? It made my blood boil) but I just couldn't work up the courage to actually get up and go and try to talk to her. I was frustrated to say the least. And even if I did work up courage to do so, what would I say? That I had been staring at her these past couple of weeks like a total stalker? Would she recognize me from the bus that day? Probably not. I could see that John Lee was trying his best to talk to her but she had a dreamy expression on her face like she was not really listening and that made me a bit happy and I felt the corners of my lips upturn in a smile at that fact. I was sitting near enough to hear most of their conversation. "Are you both enjoying the party? I heard Seo joon sunbae is your older brother." John Lee asked her friend who nodded shyly. Ah that explains why they're here. "And you're new to town right Se-ra-ssi? How are you finding Daegu? Not better than Seoul surely?" he laughed at his pathetic "joke" ; such a stupid loser. Her name is Se ra? Her friend nudged her to get her attention as a few seconds passed by without her answering. It seemed as if her mind was elsewhere as her gaze was unfocused and she had a faraway look in her eyes. "Oh, I'm sorry what?" she blinked at them and gave him an apologetic smile. Her friend apologized on her behalf and told her what John had asked. "No, Daegu is actually much better than I expected. I'm liking it here. In fact, I'm glad to be here. The people here are friendly." She grinned. "It's great to have you here too Se-ra ssi. I'm glad you moved here." John Lee gave her his trademark smirk which normally made girls swoon but I could she her attention had now shifted to the makeshift stage set up in the middle of the whole backyard where music was being played by the band which always played at the café. She really had the attention span of a toddler; I had learnt that from the past couple of days spent observing her. "They're nice. Great beat they've got going here." My thoughts exactly. "Ah I heard you play the violin and the piano right?" John asked, still pathetically trying to win her over, not being able to believe that someone was able to resist his "charms". That guy had an over-inflated ego. I really didn't like him. "Yes she does." Her friend answered for Se-ra, who was now humming some tune under her breath which I couldn't make out. I wanted to; desperately, but I was sitting a bit far for that. "Hey I have an idea, why don't you play a little something for us here Se-ra? Show them all what a great violinist you are!" her friend suddenly exclaimed but then blushed when John Lee met her gaze. Geez! "Huh?" Se-ra blinked a few times and frowned a bit. "But where will she get a violin from?" John asked them. "Oh she carries hers with her almost everywhere. Didn't you bring it today Se-ra?" "I did but-" "Then its settled! Se-ra ssi, please play something for us!" John Lee tried to act cute and use aegyo but failed miserably. Even so, Se-ra smiled at him politely, "Uh sure if you insist, why not." And did she play well! The moment she stepped on the stage, she transformed from the bubbly clumsy girl that she was into a confident goddess who was in her element. Well, I feel the same when I step up on a stage too- I get this newfound confidence which I never knew I had. It must have been the same for her. Her musical notes which filled the air when she played make the whole audience spellbound. Same for me. The way she played, it felt as if she was feeling the music; her eyes closed and her fingers moving the bow gracefully; ever so gracefully. Like a heavenly goddess. I think that was when I knew that I had started falling for her; that I merely didn't just like her; I was falling in love with her. With Se-ra.
