To our horror, we are currently located in the jungles of Tasmania. We did not even know that these place existed and why we do not have any idea how we ended up here was still a mystery. Thomas, who was in the army before, had theories and they all sounded plausible to them.
All they had to do now was to figure out a way to get back to civilization.
Over dinner of roasted squirrels and some fruits which Thomas hunted and foraged, they got to know each other. They were all back into their human forms as well. The elder woman is Erma and the younger one was her daughter, Erin Green. They were taken from their apartment and from what little they remember, Greg Phantom wanted a subject with an offspring. They are from Norway.
“We have not yet thanked you..” Erma begun.
“Stacy, my name is Stacy Wright. I was supposed to be at Harvard, but here we are. We are the lucky ones.”
“What are your plans?”
“I do not know. I cannot go back like this. I do not even know when the changes will happen.”
“I agree, Greg will not stop until he gets back what he has lost.” Thomas said through a full mouth.
We spent the night talking about what we were before we were made into laboratory rats. Our lives and what we could have been doing now if s**t had not happened and Greg was not crazy. Thomas was busy fidgeting on the laptop that he stole from a mercenary. Stacy had a feeling that he had not stolen it, he had to kill a man before he could get his hands on it.
Erma and Erin went to sleep together, Stacy volunteered to be the look out since Thomas was still busy trying to crack on some files on the laptop. It is no use if you cannot access it. Apparently, what he got was not the property of the mercenary. It was Greg’s and we both supposed that the man had just handed it to the uniformed man for safe keeping while he gave the establishment a tour and, of course, because he was lazy to carry something.
We knew it was important because it needed decrypting and when a file is crypted and bore the file name “top secret/confidential’’ ,even primary school kids knew that it was something not to be opened or messed with. But Thomas and Stacy were no longer kids and that was what they wanted to know.
“Well?” She asked under her breath.
“Unfortunately, I am no computer geek, but I can find a person who can crack this. I have a hunch that whatever is in here, “ he taps the laptop, “is making Greg Phantom boil with anger right now.”
“ I know,um, can you watch over Erma and Erin?”
“Where are you going?” Thomas asked her with an arched brow. She can tell that he distrusts her judgement when it comes to Phantom Laboratories.
“Chill, I am just gonna go poop, do you want to come?”
“No.”
“I know you’d say that.”
“Please do not do anything stupid, Stacy. Greg is already pissed. Plus, by now, he already knew that this was missing. He is not just pissed, he will unleash wrath.”
And it did.
Greg was exhausted. He went back to the laboratory after securing more men from a friend in the area. He left when the attack was going on and he brought with him his lead scientist, Dr. Hemmings and the laptop that contained all the records and data and the formula for the serum that was injected into that subject whom they all thought was not worth any. He must admit that they were surprised to see that among the five, the subject that showed dormancy, turned out to be the success that he had been working his a** for the past two decades.
“Where is that guy carrying my briefcase? The one with the leather case?” He bellowed when the group convened in the open area.
One man hollered.
“That was Mendoza, sir.”
“Then where the f*ck is Mr. Mendoza?”
The man they have been looking for is missing. Greg was again in a panic. He kept on screaming that it was important and that whoever could bring him what he was looking for would get five thousand grand from him. This excited the mercenaries and they searched the place high and low, no stone was left unturned and even the ashes were checked. No Mendoza.
The man was furious. First his laboratory and now his breakthrough. That test subject who he knew by her real name was Stacy Wright. From that day forward, he had a new agenda. There was no way that the serum could be replicated. It took them two decades to reach its full potential and his investors are up on his neck. There is only one way now. Find Stacy Wright and they will find the perfect serum. Alter and tweak it a bit and they will get the perfect serum for the hybrid soldiers.
First, he needs to rebuild. He still has other projects and other laboratories.
“I want every detail about the Wrights in Arizona. Station a man there, I do not care how much time it will take you, but if you found the right family and if they are harboring her or know anything about our precious test subject, do not hesitate to kill them all. I hope I have made myself clear.” He was talking to the captain of the team.
Greg was born and raised in a very poor family, but he was extraordinarily smart. His intelligence was exceptional and it made up for his lack of looks and confidence. He found power in science when he was accepted at Harvard and nailed his first scientific breakthrough in mind control. He was a brilliant neurosurgeon and he was fascinated by how much power the human mind can achieve. Later on, he expanded his exploits in DNA studies and found out that he could alter and make an entirely different animal from two different DNA’s.
His success in the field gave him access and clout with the richest and the vilest people on earth who wanted power. And Greg was a servant of money. He did not want to be poor and ugly. He would rather be ugly and rich because that combination is deadly.
