Seventeen years ago, I was born. Hi, my name is Luna Covington, and I am the daughter of Ashley Covington. She was a good mum until she had an overdose a week before my birthday and ever since then I have been avoiding being placed into a foster home. You might be wondering, "Luna, where is the rest of your family?" Well, my mum never told me who my dad was, no matter how many times I asked and it got to the point when I just stopped asking. As for my grandparents, I have never met them. My mum has only told me that they disowned her after they found out she was pregnant with me. She didn't have any friends because she was always working and looking after me. Today is the first day back at school and I couldn't wait to see my friends and to go to my favourite class, which was English with Mr Johnson. Ten minutes later, I arrived at school and everyone was staring at me, which made me uncomfortable, which was understandable since nobody had seen me since what happened to my mum was all over the news. As I walked through the gates, I could hear people saying things like, "I can't believe that she is still in town, I thought she would have left." But what hurt me the most was when I was walking up to my best friend Hayley Jackson, she was talking to the school bully and I overheard her say, "I can't believe that they let the daughter of a druggo into the school especially since I heard that she is on drugs too." Hayley then turned around and saw me and before she could say anything I said, "don't even try to explain yourself to me, I don't want to be friends with someone like you." I then left her behind and started walking to my homeroom. Just as I was about to get there, I saw two ladies walking towards me and by looking at their uniforms I could tell they were with children protection services. So I quickly put my hood on and started walking the other direction and that was when I accidently bumped into someone. So I quickly looked up to apologise and that was when I realized that it was Mr Johnson, my English teacher. I then quickly said, "I am so sorry I bumped into you, I wasn't paying attention." "Hi Luna, it is so good to see you. I am so sorry about your mum. Also, are you okay? You seem jumpy." I then said, "I'm so sorry but I got to go before they catch up." Before he could say anything else and before I could leave, I heard a voice behind me say, "Miss Covington, you are a hard girl to find. But you need to come with us please." Mr Johnson then spoke up and said, "Hi, I am Luna's English teacher, Steve Johnson. Is there. Anyway, I can help?" One of the ladies then said, "Hi Steve, I'm Bella Rose and this is Lee Harper and we work for children protection services and we need to take Luna with us so we can get her settled into a placement." I then said, "I'm not good with new people please don't take me I am fine on my own." Lee then said, "by the looks of you that isn't true." Mr Johnson then said, "what if she stayed with me and my wife until you find a placement for her?" Bella then said, "that is kind of you but I don't know." I then said, "what if you go and check his house to make sure that it is safe and I have a dad that I don't know about but would like to try and find him." Lee then said, "we can do this but only if you your wife agrees to this." "I will call my wife now but she shouldn't have a problem with this since we have been going through the process of trying to adopt a child and if I can get the rest of the day off work I can show you my property today." He then left me with Lee and Bella and five minutes later he came back with a huge smile on his face. "is this good news?" I asked and he said, "yes it is my wife said that you can stay with us for as long as you need." We all then walked to the school car park and Mr Johnson got into his car and I got into the car with Bella and Lee and we followed him. What felt like a lifetime later we had arrived at a beautiful property and waiting out the front was a beautiful lady that I believe must be his wife. As we got out of the car she walked up to us and said, "you must be Luna its nice to meet you I'm Leah." She then shook both Bella's and Lee's hand. "you have a beautiful place here." I genuinely said. Mr Johnson then said, "thank you Luna it's been mine and Leahs heart and soul." Lee then pulled out a notepad and pen and said, "whenever you both are ready to show us around we are ready." So for the next half an hour we were being showed around the house and the yard. Once we were finished Bella said, "if Luna would like to stay here she can but we will be back to see how she has settled in within three weeks." I then smiled at both Leah and Mr Johnson and said, "I don't want to be an intrusion." Leah then laughed and said, "trust me we wouldn't be here if we thought that you were an intrusion." I then ran up to both Leah and Mr Johnson and gave them a big hug and said, "thank you so much for lettting me stay with you." Lee then said, "we will contact you when we are going to come around." Mr Johnson then said, "you are very welcome Luna and that is fine thank you." Leah then grabbed my hand and said, "well lets get you settled in shall we." We all then walked inside and Leah handed me a bag and said, "I know these might be a bit old fashioned, but these were my clothes when I was your age and I hope that these will fit you." "they are lovely thank you so much I appriciate it." Mr Johnson then said, "after you have had a shower and something to eat we can take you to the shops so we can buy you some new clothes and a phone." Surprised I said, "you don't have to do that you both are already doing so much for me." Leah then said, "don't be silly we want to do this for you." I then smiled and said, "thank you Leah and Mr Johnson." "you are welcome Luna and when we aren't at school you can call me Steve." Later that afternoon we had finished shopping and I was sitting in my room with the door opened and Steve walked up to my doorway and said, "hey Luna tomorrow we will go to school earlier so we can go to the office and change your details so the school knows that you are now in my care." I then smiled and said, "thats fine and would I be able to change my classes that I have with Hayley please." "of course but I have to make sure that it is alright with the deputy principal but can I ask why you want to change your classes?" I then sighed and said, "Hayley and I aren't friends anymore because I heard her saying nasty things about me behind my back before I bumped into you." Steve then came up to me and gave me a hug and said, "i'm sorry to hear that and if she says anything again, please find me straight away because we can't have her spreading stuff around." I then hugged him back and said, "thanks Steve I promise I will."
