Mutant 13

***Prologue*** Hello. My name is Mutant 13. I've been cursed since birth and never understood why. I often question my parents motives... Were they so terrified of me they wanted me to die a slow death? What else could it be. I've been in this orphange for as long as I could remember. I'm an abomination. A sin. Anything to do with me is deemed deadly. Mutants are freaks and don't deserve to live. I need to die. I want to die.... But it isn't possible. I have been so close, so many times. Here it is... My 18th birthday and I am still here. I have forgotten everything but the torture these people have caused me and I am ready to leave... Even if I have no where to go. I wince as I hear the snap of the metal whip. It hits my back leaving long gushing gashes between my shoulder blades. Right between where my wings were. the stripped them as soon as I got here. They would grow back and they would cut them again. "ABOMINATION!" I hear the headmaster say. I am chained by my wrists on a small stage in front of others like me. They all watch in horror. The fresh meat, being taught what happens to mutants in this orphanage. I was the oldest, and would soon be cast out into the world with no knowledge on how to control any of my powers. I don't know how to even live. I growl as I hear the snap this time. My black eyes glow purple as my powers threaten to break loose. "I wouldn't do that.." A voice I would know anyone says. I looked down at the shadow that follows me. The small shadow was in the shape of a wolf. It chuckled. "or do. you might finally die and I would be free to do whatever I wanted." I rightfully named him Paine. I only saw him during intense torture. I think it's just my mind trying to distract me. But it's the same thing everytime. A single tear falls down my cheek, not from the pain. But from the thought of escaping this. I was ready.... I growled again as the purple swirled with my black eyes and I blacked out. I don't remember what happened after. All I know is I woke up to the building being clear. I saw all the new sins.. They were dead. The headmaster was decapitated and I was being restrained. "Put a collar on her like the animal she is." An officer screamed as they shocked me, trying to subdue me. I comply and kneel as they strapped a collar on me to suppress my powers. I just look around in horror. Did I kill these people? Did I try to irritate the mutant race in this room? I looked up as I growled. That's what I should do. Get rid of the abominations. Before I could finish my thought, an officer hit me in the back of the head with his gun and I passed out yet again. When I woke up, I was in a dark alley. I put my hand to my neck and the collar was gone. "Am... Am I free?" My voice was hoarse as I spoke and I looked around. "What am I suppose to do?" "Well how am I suppose to know?" I saw Paine jump down onto a dumpster lid and laugh. "I'm just hear for the ride. You are all on your own now mutant." I growled at him a little and walked to the opening of the alley. I looked around. The street I was on is empty. I started walking down the street with Paine beside me as I looked around. I don't know where I am... Or where to even go. I don't even have a name. I came to a stop at the front of a video game store. Not that I know what they are, but new mutants have mentioned them before. I was staring at a poster with a girl on it. She had black wings and dark hair. Similar to me. I smirked as I looked at the name of the game. "Zora..." That was the name of the game... But that's the name that seems to fit. I decided from then on I would be know as Zora.. Zora Feye... No longer just a number. I wanted to do something for this world, even if it never did anything for me. I started walking again, taking an apple off of a vacant fruit stand. I had to eat... I will figure out how to make money soon. I think about what I did at the orphanage as I passed by a tv store. Flashing screens showed a news report. It was the orphanage. I stood there in horror as the subtitles ran across. 'Mutant went crazy and murder fellow mutants in orphange. Mutant 13 is still at large and dangerous. Please report any tips to our tip hotline." I began to panic as the secretary to the headmaster appeared. 'We don't understand what happened. She just started killing those poor kids during class." I growled as I looked around. I noticed police cars and black vans driving around. That's why the streets are empty. People are out to get me and they are scare. They are making me look like the bad guy. It wasn't my fault... They have been abusing and killing us for years. I figured people would think it was a blessing... But instead... They're pinning it all on me. They are acting innocent... I was being tortured. "Well... I guess you had better go running there girl." I heard Paine fading away as I took off. I found a clothing rack left on the street near a*****e. I growled and grabbed a black hoodie, throwing it on. I have some powers I can use. I whipped my hand back as shadows began to move. They surrounded me and covered me as I continued running. I was out of breath as I reached the woods. I stopped to try and catch my breath. I looked behind me. Was I ready to live on my own in the woods? I have no choice.... I took off, leaving everything behind me. I am now on the run... ***POV NOBODY'S*** Paine stood there watching as Zora ran off. He huffed a bit. "Why can't she just die already?" "You are an absolute failure." He jumped at the unexpected voice and turned to it. An older woman walked out of the tree line. "You are supposed to protect her." Paine growled a little. "Why should I? She is nothing." "But you are a guardian.." The woman was covered in a cloak. All you could see was deep, icy blue eyes. They looked almost like orbs of light. "What kind of guardian would be paired up with her?" Paine laid down with a huff. "I gave you to her. You and she are one and the same. She becomes you as she shifts into her wolf counterpart. Paine... You die when she dies. Do you understand?" Paine sighed as he realized who this woman was. "Y-your Highness." He stood and bowed his head, showing respect. "I told you to protect her. She is going to do amazing things for the mutant world and now she thinks you're a curse or a figment of her imagination. You are ruining her. So go. Now. Catch her and show her how to survive. Make her realize her true self...." Paine nodded and bowed one more time before running off towards Zora. He had a new mission. To prove himself as the guardian he is supposed to be..
