16. Friends Before Partners

A month later,

She entered the room with a glass of milk and some dry fruits and found him engrossed in a file standing near the study table. She kept the glass and the plate away and hugged him from behind "Are you angry?"

"What for?" He asked keeping her eyes on on him and closing the file kept his hands on her palms "The way I spoilt our time together"

"No No! That was just a silly thing and thank god the havan ended within an hour, and you are nowhere at fault" She smiled and asked "Are you heading to office now?"

"Yeah, do you want me to drop you at your college?" Nandini nodded and kissed his back "I will miss you"

"I will miss you more, I love you!" Smiling to herself, she walked away while he kept the files inside his bag. In a while, Nandini too came to him with her back and both smiled at each other "Back to daily life"

"Yeah, only to be welcomed by your face every day" She giggled at his flattering statement and walked down to find Maa and Chachi smiling while Divya was making little faces. She took blessings and both drove to their workplaces.

As soon as her college came up, he applied the brake and kissed her knuckles "Lunch karlena and acche se parhana!" She looked around and pecked his cheek "Aap bhi acche se kaam karna and lunch bhi time karlijiyega" Manik nodded and waved a bye while she entered the college campus.

"Oho! Good Morning Mrs. Malhotraaa!" A snap from the other side disturbed her trance and she hugged the one quickly "Navyyy! I missed you so much!" Navya too hugged back and both laughed after breaking it "It's been so long talking! I am moving for the first class, shall see you at 12"

"Okayy!" Nandini smiled quickly and moved to reception to mark her presence "You have been called by the dean during the break" Nandini nodded and moved to classroom to teach when all the students smiled at her "Good Morning ma'am! Congratulations!"

Nandini smiled widely "Thank you so much students, now everyone get back to studies! It's been long!" The students laughed at her strict attitude to which she too giggled and continued teaching.

It was an afternoon shift for him so he decided to have a sip of what his lady has made for him - Orange Juice (and some fried rice)

Amazed at the talent his lady held, he gave a smile and continued working for the project assigned by his senior. He was just three projects away from being designated as a senior and he couldn't stop grinning at the fact that his lady love was actually a lucky charm in his life too. He was so proud and loved her so deeply that it would take eternity for him to just simply prove how deep his love was.

Baby calling. Even his iPhone knew what she was to him (though only he made it aware of it). She was simply a cute little baby who would want all his attention to herself whenever they were alone and the most responsible young lady who would sacrifice herself for her family. Did he say her? Grinning at the fact that he just mentioned both the families as only hers and obviously a laugh accompanied as soon as he imagined of her giving out a lecture to him for saying this "No Manik! This is not how you say. It's our family. O-U-R" She was the mini monster and the calmest lady one could have ever asked for. Why so perfect, Mrs. Malhotra?

"Ohh s**t" He stumbled and picked up the call and laughed for his stupidity "Good Afternoon, Mrs! Had your lunch?"

She smiled at his concern "Jee, you had yours?" He mouthed a YES and both smiled "How's your day going?" She asked after a peaceful silence of around 5 minutes "It was amazing. My colleagues greeted me for the marriage and ofc had to give them a treat. Tell me about yours?" She smiled and muttered "Same! The students greeted me along with the colleagues and ofc, Navyaaa!" He laughed at her mention "Tell me how's she"

"Ah! She's amazing as usual.. Accha Manik! I need to leave.. The dean has called me in.. Bye, love you" And she hung up the call as soon as he reciprocated with the same love. Why so adorable, Mr. Malhotra?

She thought and went straight to the dean's office.

It was around 9 pm and he just rang the bell wanting to see her smiling face the first. He smiled as soon as the door opened but found his mother opening the gate. His smile subsided a little but then he hugged tightly and found Nandini looking at him through the kitchen and smiling and his smile grew wider.

Everyone was at the dining table and the elders have finished much early and were off to their rooms. Only Avneet, Cabir, Rukmini, Mukti and MaNan were there.

"So you are leaving on the third of March?" Manik asked gulping down the cabbage with the chappati to which Mukti nodded with a smile "Good! Come back to us very soon, baby girl"

"Mukti and all sabka dekha jayega! Tell us how was your honeymoon bhai?" Cabir asked chewing the rice to which Manik glared "And why are you so interested Mr.?"

"Areey! Bhai! Why so rudeee? I am just being friendlyyy with you!" He winked at him to which Manik giggled "It was good. Pondicherry was amazingg!"

"And how was bhabhi?" Avneet popped in between to which Nandini coughed a little and Manik quickly passed on a glass, rubbing her back glaring at the young clan "That's very inappropriate, baccha!" Avneet murmured a sorry and smiled childishly at Nandini who blushed a little before sparking a smile.

After a joy-filled dinner, everyone departed to their rooms and Manik went inside the washroom while Nandini decided to arrange the bed. She was folding the quilt properly when he hugged her from behind "Is there anything you want to say?"

She looked at him and then at the bed and spoke "No Manik! Nothing!"

"You know right? We are Friends before Partners?" She sighed and sat on the bed while he knelt down and entwined their hands "The dean called me in today. She had decided to cut off my salary by 60% because of the continuous holidays I took.. I am worried Manik! The dean is not at fault because she is helpless herself. The inspection had came around and I was absent and that's why.. A kind off a punishment.. I will still need the money Mani.. I send 15,000 to Papa for the house repay loan and I am tensed" She looked down all worried while he sighed "You know you make me feel so unwanted at times" Her eyes snapped at him and he made a face "Why am I here then?"

"Manik! You earn 1,50,000! You give 40,000 for this house, 40,000 for your own savings, 10,000 for the bullet and the rest goes for insurance and all" She murmured while Manik adored the mathematician he got in his life and giggled inside his brain.

"Exactly! 40,000 for myself.. I spend across 10k so you can take 20 from it.. What say?" Her eyes brightened but "How can I?"

"That's simply so stupid of you to say! You mean" He cupped her right cheek and stood up pushing her to the bed while she giggled softly "Why are you this good?"

"I am doing no good! I am taking something in return.." He eyed her taking off his tee while she blushed and moved behind "Now?"

"It's 11 and everyone's sleeping and according to.. ." She pulled him by his neck "to??"

"Urm! Handbook to amazing married life.. One shouldn't sleep so early" She giggled as he kissed her neck and laughed along with her.
