Jesse looked at me. I knew he wanted me to say the word so that he could get security. I shook my head and turned away from him, because I did not want to see the disappointment on his brow after the decision I made.
He walked out of my office and tended to his business without another word.
“He…really doesn’t like me, does he?”
“Would you like you?” I asked. “You’re always rude, Prin,” I said to her.
“Well, I don’t mean to be.” she shrugged. “I’ll make a mental note to apologize to him later.”
“Or you could apologize now,” I said as I began to wrangle and separate the completed documents from the incomplete.
“Then I won’t have time to take you to lunch.”
I finished separating and when I saw that the incomplete was a heap higher than the complete, my heart sank.
