Preface
The war was won, and her side had been triumphant. There was never a doubt in her mind that history would remember this civil war, Celpinian against Celpinian. Where brother and sister fought side by side in the interest of freeing themselves from those genocidal maniacs that called themselves the monarchy of Celpi. They could never sit on the throne because they weren't from her bloodline. A special and convenient spell was placed on the throne and crown when Celpi was first developed. Whoever was considered the best choice in the entire universe to sit on the throne and rule would be the only one who could sit on it without some horrible life-ending event coming to pass for those who were judged unworthy. There were attempted work-arounds that failed through the years until everyone just accepted that the throne and crown were the only way. She was the rightful heir and approved of by the throne, it was her destiny to rule; but how she would rule was what was fought over. Her eldest brother, Hersham, had decided he only needed his sister to act as a figurehead. He offered her a sweet deal. Come accept the throne and rule. Marry anyone she chooses, have a child, and leave that child to him. He would mold that child to think and act as he does, and he would control the country and rule through that child. Initially, she accepted this offer. She did not intend on ruling, and she longed to live a normal life as a human on Earth. When she realized that Hersham wanted to murder everyone who had Lally blood before turning to neighboring planet Lally to wipe it clean of its population and be used as a colony for Celpi, she could not allow that. She escaped and was surprised that a rebellion had already begun amassing when they took her in and begged her to lead them. She agreed. They won. All was right in the universe. Except, she still did not want to be queen. She was offered the crown and throne once as a child, and when it accepted her as the heir, she ran to Earth in hopes of integrating herself into society and disappearing into obscurity. Her siblings happily tried to take the throne through the years, but all but one have died. Hersham was all that remained. Now that the war was won, her brother was dead. If she abdicated, the throne would choose another to take her place. It has happened only once in the thousand-year history of their planet. "You can't be serious! You just fought a war for the chance to rule!" Julain sighed heavily while pinching the bridge of his nose, eyes shut tight. His chocolate skin betrayed bruises and cuts. He had already been through the healing tents once before and had to wait to be fully healed. He did not have the energy to finish the healing, and he certainly didn't have the time for spoiled rotten brats who would happily shirk responsibility, plunging their people into darkness without hope for another leader. "I didn't want to rule sixteen years ago when I was offered the job, I didn't want to rule when this all began, and I certainly don't want to rule now! I can be free, to live and struggle and learn! I have this moment and I have to take it!" She replied hurriedly, stuffing her human belongings into a napsack and slinging it over her shoulder. "The throne chose someone else before, that is how my bloodline came to rule in the first place. It could happen again!" she replied, avoiding his gaze and placing her bag on the ground to put on her cloak. "And what if it doesn't? What if it waits for you again? Then what will you do? Your people cannot self-govern without a leader and the crown wouldn't allow any leader to take their place. Things got bad without you. Many people died, our numbers were dwindling from starvation. We could face extinction!" "Look J. I get it, its scary, but i have to try!" She said, reasoning to him, as if he would eventually understand. "You'll kill us!" He said, dropping to his knees as though someone had taken his life from him. He clasped his hands, and looked at her deep in her eyes, those lavender-colored eyes that marked the royal Chase bloodlines. "Please do not do this." She turned away, unable to hold his gaze, the guilt ripping at her, she walked out of the door and was not seen again...on Celpi.
