I promised Careena I wouldn’t be too hard on Alice, but when I sneak into the hotel room I’m sharing with my sister later that night or I should say, early the next morning, it’s hard to tamp my irritation down.
Alice rises to her feet when I walk in. She wrings her hands together. I can see that she’s taken a shower and changed. “Where’d you get the clothes?” I ask.
“Careena’s mom and dad bought it from the gift shop.” She pulls at the white T-shirt that says ‘YOU BETTA BELIZE IT’ on the front. “They’re really nice. I can see where Careena gets her kindness.”
“It’s late, Alice.” I cross over to the bathroom and notice that someone put a new toothbrush on the sink. I need to remember to thank Mr. and Mrs. Richards tomorrow. They’ve gone above and beyond for my family
