ZARA
Looking at the orb of life where the lanterns burn, I watch in amazement at the different colors shining brightly to make one beautiful color of unity and warmth in the sky. Every single living soul in Solara has a lantern burning for them, the difference in color represents their general well-being and fate.
There were four main colors of the lantern, a person could have a mixture of two or three colors but it is all grounded in the colors Red, white, amber, and green. Each color represents different things and changes in every special life stage like birth, love & marriage, sickness and death. My best friend, Zainab’s lantern, was red and white meaning love and peace. She recently got engaged to her lover. Papa and mama’s lantern was Amber and green meaning fulfilled and ready for death. My sister, zenny’s lantern was red. My lantern was a mixture of red, amber and White.
Everyone’s lantern meant something except one lantern whose color wasn't only strange and unique but flickers every hour. This lantern was an abomination in Solara. Nobody understood it, not the great wizards and mages of the land nor of neighboring galaxies. The owner of this lantern was casted out of Solara three years ago when the zeet happened.
The zeet happens once every three thousand years according to our history lessons when a star falls out of the galaxy for ominous reasons. My life changed that day, it’s forever etched in my mind and I have never felt the
same since the third summer in the tenth year.
It all began that morning when my boyfriend Patoz and I sneaked out of the community’s learning center to the forest as we used to in time past. Patoz was always considered an outcast in the galaxy because of his unique lantern’s black light. His lantern was as dark as a bad night and a terrible storm, it never changed its color.
In contrast to this ominous lantern, Patoz was like a light that shone brighter than the rest of the other kids of the land, he was smarter, kinder and very handsome. Handsome in unique ways, unlike the golden tan and silver skin of everyone in Solara, Patoz’s skin was a beautiful smooth combination of ecru and melanin, he was the right kind of different. His long and red hair gave him the edge of bad and dangerous, but I know deeper than anyone that the exteriors were far different from the man inside. I have listened to my parents stories of how we were born in the same year.
His mother did not survive as her lantern turned green immediately his cry echoed in the walls of the room. His birth and general life had been a tragic one but I was happy to share a year with him and against my mother’s wishes and warning, I fell in love with Patoz in the sixth year. I still remember our last conversation before the zeet happened.
‘We will surely be frowned upon by the society if they get to know we sneak into the forest like this Zara’ he says while holding me. By the gods, he was more handsome than I remembered
‘We wouldn’t be hiding like a group of unholies if only they would consent to our love. You love me don’t you?’ I looked up at him with my eyebrows in askance
‘I do Zara, do you doubt me?’
‘No, I do not. It feels good to be reassured’ I smiled.
‘I saw the old man again last night in my sleep’ he sighed.
In the 5th year, Patoz started seeing an old man who told him things. Things which always turned out to be right. Just like week he told him to meet me in the snary flower because I would be injured and lose so much blood which did happen.
‘What did he say?’ I ask. I am a huge fan of the old man but Patoz believes he makes him even weirder to know things happen even before they happened.
‘He said I will catch a glimpse of what I really am’ he sighed again
‘Isn’t that a good thing? You get to know your true self’ I rubbed his hands while smiling
‘It is but as you know, there is always a consequence to the seer’s premonition. I am worried I will have to pay directly in exchange for this revelation. There is this unease I feel’ he explains
‘Whatever happens we will be together to brave it out, I promise’
He kisses me lightly on my lips, we have never gone beyond the premise of kisses and touching but today, I wanted and desired more.
My body was no longer in control of my urges, there was a force that wanted to break out and I gave in to the beautiful lust.
I put his hands on my bosoms and locked my eyes with him, ‘make me whole with you’ I demanded and there I saw the red flash in his eyes, it was strange yet mesmerizing, I took more. Laying down with him on the grass, I locked my lips with his, I tasted and licked and sucked. I was a wanton wanting more, I allowed the beast within me to take the lead. I grabbed his tonk, it was big and beasty and without hesitation, I took it in my mouth and drank off the white juices being dispensed. It was of an unfamiliar taste but the beast within me seemed satisfied. His fingers are in my fold, I can feel the wetness dripping and the squish squish sounds that kept ringing in my ears as his fingers go back and forth inside the walls of my intimate parts, this feeling was ecstatic but I wanted more and as if were we were in an unsaid sync, he adjusted so he was positioned over me, his legs on either sides of me and then he entered me gently, there was a sharp and pleasurable feel, I could feel his essence dripping into my soul after several thrusts, I looked up at him and saw something, the Solara’s four light wrapped around us in a smokey twirl, his hair color changed into a snow white and then there was a darkness in the form of a man standing guard with a sword and an axe on either sides.
Looking at a confused Patoz, I pushed him away and scurried away when I saw two white large wings on either side of him like the black nothingness standing beside us. Patoz was a monster. He was a beautiful monster, that’s who he was. Picking up my clothes, I fled from the man I loved.
