Those Eyes

I stood there in a daze staring at the spot where those eyes bore into mine. Those eyes that haunted my dreams. The ones I had to find. I stood there frozen as I could hear someone talking. I was pulled from the daze by Jay as he shook me a bit. “Hello? Jade?” I blinked a bit and looked up at him. He waited a second to see if I’d say anything before asking “What’s going on? You froze as if you saw a ghost.” Looking at him for a moment I spoke up. “We are in the right place.” I looked to the others. “Be careful. We are near Ryder’s territory.” Each of us walked with caution and our noses to the air and ground. We had no idea how many wolves or other shifters Ryder had recruited. We couldn’t take a chance not with Lydia with us. I picked up the scent of what I could guess is Ryder. It felt a bit to easy. I knew he wanted me to come but I didn’t think he’d make it this easy for me. Verena stood on edge and I could feel her pacing in my mind. We both knew that if Ryder wanted us dead he would of done it by now. Time slowly passed as we walked along, I looked around for a bit. We all picked up scents of so many different types of shifters. I had decided enough was enough. “Ryder!” I yelled out. Both Knox and Jay looked at me in shock. “I know you’re watching us! Just come out! I’m tired of this game!” I looked along the rows of trees and bushes. This thick brush gave a large bear the perfect hiding places to watch his prey. “I just want to talk. I know you wouldn’t be able to believe me because of all you been through, but the moon goddess sent me.” The woods seemed to go silent and still as if nothing dared to make a sound or move. As if on queue the sound of heavy foot falls made it’s way towards us. I stood at the ready but didn’t want to seem like I would be a threat. The trees looked as if they were parting with ease as the large grizzly came out. “Ryder. Please I just want to talk. I want you to know you don’t have to worry. We want peace.” The eyes that filled my dream stared at me. “It’s not fair what they did to you. They shouldn’t have taken your mate away, but I found your second chance mate.” He sniffed the air and looked towards Lydia moving closer to her. Lydia moved towards him as if in a trance. I knew what was happening. I knew that they were having a moment. Ryder shifted and stood before Lydia. He was a tall, thick, burley man with a thick beard. Lydia was so small compared to him. Ryder took her into his arms and looked at me growling. I raised my hands. “Ryder I didn’t come here to ruin your chance at happiness. I came to bring you another.” Lydia looked up at him and spoke “She is speaking the truth. She’s been fighting hard to make sure that you and I have a chance at happiness.” He seemed to be thinking a few things over before speaking. His thick accent filled the silence. “That’s what the last family said before that was taken from me.” He glared at me “How can I trust a wolf.” He sniffed the air. “One of the first werewolf families at that.” He growled more. I backed up a bit “Ryder I can’t tell you to trust me after what you’ve been through, but do you really think I would go out of my way to bring you your second chance mate?” I stated at him hard. “Do you really think that someone who would want to bring harm to you would go through everything that I did?” I started to get mad. “Someone who didn’t want peace wouldn’t do the things I did!” I stepped forward and I could see Jay and Knox reaching out for me. Lydia wanted to react but she knew I was doing this and getting angry because I’ve done nothing but gone against my own kind for this ungrateful cub. Lydia stepped back as I got up in his face not caring about the consequences of my actions. “I’m doing this because I believe everyone deserves to be happy! I’m doing this to not only protect my family’s future but your’s!” I stared at the tall burley man. “You are an ungrateful cub!!” This time I was growling. I was growling loud. Ryder stared at me long and hard. “I’m an ungrateful cub?” He raised his eyebrow at me. “Do you really think if I was ungrateful you’d still be standing?” This time it was Knox and Jay’s turn to growl. Both stood at my flanks ready to back me up. Ryder didn’t pay them no mind but kept his eyes locked onto mine. “I’m happy you brought me a second chance at being happy. It’s just hard to trust someone.” I sighed and relaxed a bit. “I’m not asking for your trust or for you to forgive and forget. I just want peace. I also want you to have a chance to just be happy with your mate and start a family. In fact.” I reached into my bag and pulled out a hard folder handing it to him. “Here is a deed to a house with some land in the blood moon territory. No one and I mean no one will judge you or bring harm to the family you raise.” He took the folded into his hands and looked at the paper with the signature of both mine and Theon’s. Even the family seal was placed on in it. “This is your second chance and our’s.” After a moment he looked at me hard. “Say I forgive and forget and love here. You do realize I’m not the issue you’ll be facing now.” I looked at him with a hard graze. “I know.” He nodded “Then we better leave. If not, our scents will be grabbed by some unwanted noses.” I knew what he meant. He was no longer my threat, but Mark still was. I now had to face off against someone who wanted to ruin my second chance after his son cut off my first chance. A sharp, loud howl filled the air. Ryder spoke again “Well let’s getting going. Sounds like they found out.” We all agreed and started to make our way out of their. Ryder grabbed the stash of clothes he had hidden. We ran as if our life depended on it. We couldn’t take on an army right now but we had the key to our success. Mark would meet his end and peace will be brought to our families. We reached the suv as we climbed inside. Pounding of paws and heavy foot falls came from deep in the woods as we peeled out of there. I turned to look at the edge of the woods and staring at me from the edge was Mark. He had a look on his face that if it could it would kill me on the spot. This wasn’t the end and only one of us would make it to the end. I just have to make sure it’s me.
