Walking under the soft glow of the moonlight, going deeper into the woods. I made it to the small clearing that only the Blackwood wolves used for their first shift. As if the goddess knew I was there it seemed her light got slightly brighter.
I sat just outside of the circle of trees to peel myself out of my clothes. A soft breeze brushed against my skin as I now made my way to the center of the circle. My eyes glued themself to the moon's beautiful glowing beauty. It was as if I was being welcomed like an old friend.
Before I could finish taking in the beauty of the goddess. I felt my body heat up. It was like a fire started at the core of my stomach and worked its way out. Bones began to break and stretch. I fell to my knees letting out an ear breaking cry.
My shoulder broke and shifted to take its new place as my spine felt like it was warping to take on a new form. My skull felt like it was splitting in two as my face stretched to now form a muzzle. Fur sprouting and growing like wild fire across my body.
The pain was excruciating. Once my body was in its new form my cry became a beautiful howl as I sang for the moon and all her glory.
The first shift was always the worse though it got easier with time and how much you shift. I was grateful to be under the goddess's watchful eye.
The soft grass felt good beneath my feet as I stretched myself out. As I began to trot around and sniff at the ground and air I was greeted with a soft voice in my head. "Jade, I have waited a long time to meet you."
Smiling, I knew this voice was none other then my new friend, the one person who I knew would always have my back and never steer me wrong.
'My name is Verena, my sweet Jade.'
letting her voice sit in, I smiled. 'Hello Verena, I couldn't be happier that you are here.'
As if it was an instant agreement, we took off running under the moonlight of the goddess. It felt good. It felt so good to feel the grass as I ran, to hear the different commotions of all the pack members throughout our community, looking at everything around me, I came up to a small pond near the pack house.
Before I could take a moment to look at myself. The shift in the wind caught my nose as I lifted my head up to look towards the pack house. It smelt of cardamom, with a mix of Sandalwood and amber.
It was enticing.
Slowly I made my way to the edge of the woods where it met the pack house. My eyes drifted around the house as Verena's voice came into my mind, 'mate!'
Mate? What? My mate is here?
My eyes searched fast as they made it's way to the balcony. My body froze. Standing just outside was the soon to be alpha, Luke. I stood there staring at him from the edge.
Frozen. He had his back to me, I was mesmerized.
As if he knew I was staring at him, he turned around and looked at me. His eyes bore into me. I knew he could tell I was his mate just as I knew he was mine. I could almost reach out to him until I saw another she-wolf appear from his room through the open door.
My wolf whined as the intruder ran her hands down his arm. I stepped back to hide from her sight as a growl escaped from my belly. The want to rip her apart was there. The want to claim what was rightfully mine was pouring from me. I knew I could rip the she-wolf to shreds but what happened next broke me further.
He turned to her, taking her into his arms.
Pressing my belly against the cold, hard ground I watched as they disappeared into his room. I could feel the pain start to raise as they got more intimate.
I whimpered as I start to make my way away from the pack house, but I didn't make it very far when I felt like someone was stabbing me with a hot iron. I howled in pain as the howl became a cry has I shifted back into my human form laying on the ground.
I felt someone pick me up and muffled words that sounded like my brother as I was placed into a car. Feeling the pain become worse each passing second. I fell into an ever consuming darkness. The last thing I heard was my wolf whimpering why.
Darkness. It filled my vision. It felt as if I was falling. The sound of my wolf whimpering filled the space. Stretching out my hand I felt around the space.
"Verena?" Following her whimpers was useless. The came from every corner, "Verena please, I'm hurting to. Let me find you?"
Something moved off to my right as I reached out my hand. The feeling of soft, plush fur.
Lowering myself to the ground I curled up as Verena laid her head in my lap. "Jade will we be okay? All of this hurts." She looked up at me.
I didn't know, I spoke up, "All we can do is try Verena. We would have to reject him."
We both knew we couldn't have a mate that would be so willing to sleep with other right after finding us. He would end up doing the same while we are together.
Verena nodded, I'm glad we were in agreement. I laid against her and sighed. This wasn't going to be easy.
My eyes slowly opened as I felt the soft plushness of my bed beneath me. I sat up, confused on how I got here when memories of last night flashed before my eyes.
'Verena?' I asked softly to my wolf, I softly heard her speak, 'yes?' The pain in her voice was strong and I felt so heartbroken.
'We'll be okay, I promise.' as if those little bit of words soothed her, even just a little bit, she agreed.
Before I could let myself lay back down and relax, I heard bickering behind my door. It sounded like my father and brother.
Pushing myself up and out of bed I made my way to the door opening. If it wasn't for their quick reflexes they probably would of hit the ground. The both of them looked at me as my father cleared his throat, "so how is my little moon doing?"
Sighing I looked down at my feet, "well, can't say it doesn't hurt because it does. You wait for this all your life and I see how happy you and mom are.." rubbing my arm softly, "I just expect my mate to do the same with me, but he didn't. He took another to bed..."
The sick twisted feeling in my stomach tighten it's hold. I didn't care if he did anything before, it's the fact he knew I was his mate and still did it anyways.
Sadness was written all over my father's and brother's face. It was my brother's turn to speak as he looked at me closely, "Luke announced that he found his mate." I flinched and my brother spoke up again, "but he didn't say who, he just said he found her."
I could tell her was just trying to reassure me. Sighing softly I looked up to my brother. "Do you think you can get him to meet with me?"
My father and brother didn't look please but my brother nodded. "Yea I can, I'll tell him I need to talk to him."
My brother walked away to mind link Luke as my father patted my shoulder. "Do you want me to say something to Alpha Mark?"
Shaking my head no I looked up at him. "No it's okay dad, whether he rejects me or not is on him, my main focus now is the captain of the guard. Verena and I do not want a non loyal mate." I stood proud.
I wasn't going to let a pup stuck in his ways stop me from fulfilling my other dreams.
After awhile my brother came back to me and told me that he got Luke to expect him for a meeting though it won't be with my brother but me. If he wasn't going to reject me then I was going to reject him. A non loyal mate is like having a plague and I'll be damned if he becomes my plague.
This is what is needed to be done.
Jay and I loaded up into his car as he drove off towards the pack house. I kept saying what I was going to say to Luke inside my head. A reject had to be done, I didn't care who was going to say it first but it had to be done. He wasn't going to change my mind either, he has no right to hurt Verena and I, we didn't deserve this and we won't stand for this. We are going to be free from Luke and that would be that.
Jay pulled the car up to the pack house and I climbed out. I stood there for a moment once we got to the pack house.
I stood there staring at the door as his scent hit my nose. It was mixed with her's, I wanted to growl. I wanted to show the little w***e why you don't mess with a Blackwood, but at the same time, I wanted to watch Luke dig his grave and lay in it.
Pushing open the doors to his office, I stared at the cocky bastard who had a smirk plastered on his face. I could feel Verena growling with venom. She was like a viper ready to launch at her prey in front of her. No one disrespected a Blackwood wolf.
His smile never faded as he looked me over, "so my little mate came to me?" He smelled the air "is that jealousy? No, that's anger rolling off of you."
This all seemed like a game to him. His next words actually made me happy.
"Well let's just get this over with. You don't have the looks I'm looking for in a mate so I'll do us both a favor." He cleared his throat, "I, Luke Willow, future Alpha of the Blue Mist pack, reject you, Jade Blackwood as my mate." The smile on his face made you just want to punch him and I was about to wipe that smile right off that pretty little face of his.
"I, Jade Blackwood, or the Blue Mist Pack, accept your rejection Luke Willows, future Aloha of the Blue mist pack."
I knew he wasn't expecting that. I could tell he was hoping I would beg him to stay, but I don't beg trash. He tried to act as if it didn't phase him but I knew it did.
"Well now that, that's done." he spoke sternly, "you can go now."
I turned on my heel and walked out. Making my way down the hall to meet up with my brother. I passed by the she-wolf who's sent was mixed with my ex mate. I smiled as I heard Verena snicker. You could tell she bleached her hair and her eyes were dual compared to mine.
This was his ideal mate? No. This. This was the pup who thought she actually was his mate.
As we passed another smell came from her that wasn't her's or Luke's. Oh that was golden. I smiled more as I tugged my brother along with me out of the pack house.
Jay looked at me confused as we climbed into his car. I knew he was questioning the huge smile on my face. We drove home in silence. I knew my brother was itching to get words out of me.
When we pulled up the the house he turned and looked at me, "Alright Jade spill. You've had that stupid smile on your face for the whole way home."
My smile grew wider. "So Luke's little bimbo had a mate and he's stupid if he can't smell him on her."
Jay smiled at me, "so Karma is a bitch."
I just smiled more, "she is indeed." I knew the moon goddess was smiling down upon me, but I also knew she had more in store for me.
I told my brother he wasn't aloud to say a word to Luke about Lauren finding her mate. This would all play out in the end and Luke would get what he deserves.
