Waking up experiencing what came in was something I never wanted to experience again. We had sent scouts out constantly to try and find Ryder. We wanted to talk to him, but what came back this morning would make your stomach turn in a instant.
The box laid just outside our territory, it was dirty, beaten, and bloody. My stomach turned as Knox slowly opened it. It was just the head of one of our scout with a note shoved in his mouth. I couldn’t process what I was seeing. I feel as if my scout never got a chance to speak his truth. Theon was filled with anger but didn’t take it out on me. He knew I was just trying to protect our pack.
I sat in my office looking at the note as I read it to myself.
Wolf pup, if you must find me so bad then come yourself. Every scout you send will meet the same fate.
At the bottom of the note it said that he could be find in the territory next to the Blue mist pack. I knew I had to let Theon know, but if he liked it or not I would be going and I would taking Lydia with me to meet Ryder. This was my chance to end a bloodshed before it got too out of hand. I wasn’t about to let anything happen to anyone if I could stop it.
A knock came at the door and I knew it was Lydia. “Come in Lydia.” Sighing I placed the note down and replaced my uneasy with a smile. “How are you settling it?” I could tell the she wolf was nervous still as she fumbled with her words. “I’m doing well, it’s just all of this is new to me and I wanted to come see how you were doing. Knox told me about your scout.” I kept my smile up but made a mental note to talk to Knox about this. “I’m doing okay, I can’t say I wasn’t shaken up about the whole things. It was definitely unnerving, but it’s just a small bump in the road.”
Lydia nodded “was it from the bear shifter that is suppose to be my mate?” Uneasiness washed over me again. How was I suppose to tell this she-wolf that is was? How am I suppose to reassure her that we’ll be fine? I felt a sickness wash over me as I tried my best to make her feel comfortable. “I’m not going to lie to you. It was from the bear shifter, but it’s just because he’s upset.” I chose my words carefully. “His mate was taken from him in the most unforgettable way imaginable.” I watched as her shoulders slowly relaxed. “This is him reacting out of anger and hatred for those who hurt us mate. You know how sacred a mate is.”
Her uneasiness washed over the room again as she spoke up. “I do, but you see..” she trailed off a bit. “I was rejected by my mate because it was Alpha Rowan.” Silence flooded the room not even a fly dared to make a sound. I’ve been in her place. Being rejected by your mate for not being good enough is enough to break a wolf. Verena whined softly. “Lydia, Theon isn’t my first mate.” She looked up at me a bit confused. “My first mate also rejected me. I know that feeling you’re having of not being good enough.” I fumbled with the paper in my hand. “It isn’t easy and it’s hard to keep your head held high, but I promise you that it won’t happen to you again.” Determination held tight in my eyes. “Ryder loved his mate and I know once he realizes your his second chance mate he’ll love you as well. You are a beautiful women, who has a beautiful heart.”
I could see her body start to relax again as a smile slowly appeared on her face. “How did you stay strong?” I smiled and sighed softly “I had my family. My brother found me the night I was rejected.” I could see the sadness behind her eyes as she spoke up. “I sadly lost my family.” I stood up and walked over to her “Well you have a new one.” We hugged each other happily as I pulled away. “Are you ready for your new start?” She smiled “I am.”
After she left my office I stood up and grabbed the note to head to Theon. I had to talk to him. Just to be on the safe side he had to know where I was going to be just incase things didn’t go as planned.
Walking out of my office, Knox followed along after me. “You know Knox, you kinda remind me of a lost little pup looking for his mom.” He laughed “Well with all the mischief you get into, I have to follow you around. If not your mate will have my head.” It was a light hearted joke especially after what we both witnessed this morning.
We walked in silence for a bit, before we reached Theon’s office he squeezed my shoulder. “Don’t take what happened this morning as you are a bad Luna. You are an amazing one doing her best to keep us all safe.” I smiled “Thank you Knox.” He turned and stood guard next Theon’s guard as I softly knocked on the door.
Theon’s strong voice came through the beautiful wood door. “Come in my little wolf.” I opened the door and closed it behind me. This man is and always will be just as beautiful as the first day he walked into my life. He smiled up at me and I just felt myself melt. Verena howled in delight. “Come here my love.” He patted his lap as I made my way to him. I placed myself against him. “What can I do for my beautiful Luna?” He softly kissed his mark as I blushed.
I hesitantly pulled out the note. “This is what was left me for in the scouts mouth.” He softly took it from my hands and read it as I nestled into him. I could feel him tense a bit. “I want to say you can’t go but I know you won’t listen to me and with you being my equal, my alpha tone doesn’t work on you.” I looked up at him as he sighed. “Please take Knox with you. I trust him.” I hugged him tightly “I already planned to my love and I’m bringing Lydia with me as well.” He nodded softly.
We held onto each other for what seemed like forever. His hand softly ran through my hair as my hands were up under his shirt holding onto him. The soft tingles that sparked all over my body was like a soft bliss.
When we finally broke apart I planted a kiss. He looked up at me “when do you leave little wolf?” I rubbed the back of my head. I thought about heading out tomorrow morning. The faster we got through this the better.” He nodded and rubbed the back of his neck. “Please stay safe. It hurts me so much that I won’t be going along with you.” I softly placed my hand on his cheek. “If anything happens we will run to my families pack. I promise we will be safe.” He smiled softly and nodded. I was so happy to have his trust with this. I knew it was hard and it wasn’t going to be easy for me to be away from him.
That night we curled up together and stayed pressed as we didn’t know what tomorrow had in store for us. It was going to be nerve racking to be away from my mate, but knowing that Lydia had dealt with the same mess I had with my first mate brought fourth a fire within me to show her that mates are a beautiful things no matter who they are or how they come into your life.
I felt Theon’s strong arms tighten a bit around me. I pressed my face up against his bare chest as I felt him hum. It was the hum a male will produce for his mate to help calm them down or ease their worries. It was a natural response and it made me giggle that he did it in his sleep. I felt my body ease as my eyes slowly closed. It’s the first bit of peace I felt in awhile and tomorrow was going to be a journey, but for now sleep devoured my mind and the world grew still.
