Chapter One: Introduction to the Darkness.
There wasn't much to be said about my life, at least not before they changed me. I was a simple girl, in a simple little world. Of course not a world without its fair share of problems, bad economies, hate filled people, ect. Though nothing compared to the world I was dragged into that I didn't know existed right under my nose. At the time my world changed I dyed my hair sky blue, it was messy and about shoulder length, with bangs. My eyes were also blue. From the way I dressed people probably thought I was a trouble maker or in a gang, not that those stereotypes bothered me. I was trapped in my own world, dealing with poverty just like the rest of my country. Living in a car really doesn't do wonders for one's self-esteem either. That's when I was approached by people, no beasts. Stronger than any "person" I've ever met. With ease I was ripped out of my car, cuffed, gagged, and blindfolded.
The next moment I knew I was thrown into what I assumed was a van. I knew this was not good for me. I had no family or friends. In a sense I was the perfect target. No one to look for me. I trembled at the thought. I wasn't ever really good at telling time but they drove for what felt like hours. There were a few times where they'd park the car to send someone for gas, then off we'd go again. Finally one of the times I heard the door to the back open, which jarred me awake. Someone yanked me hard by the arm dragging me to my feet. I winced in pain. After I was pulled along for a while through twists and turns they took off my blindfold. In Front of me stood a tall doctor, in the usual green scrubs and mask. The thought of my organs being harvested for money immediately came to mind. The man In Front must've guessed my thoughts and chuckled, pulling down his mask. He had a large scar over the left side of his mouth. He had a crooked smile plastered on his face.
"This isn't what you might expect my dear. We require no simple human organs. Though we will take something, all in due time."
He pulled up his mask again then signaled the man holding onto me to strap me to a chair. I struggled in vain. The male didn't even budge at my attempts. I may not have been the strongest girl but I knew my fair share of self defense and to have seen nothing work on this guy baffled me. What was going on? Was this guy a super human?? My train of thought again interrupted.
"You'll find resistance useless my dear. You'll never out run us anyway." The doc said.
His eyes flashed red. True fear had set in. My irrational thoughts were correct. He was a monster. They all were. I took a deep breath. From there on my life as a human ended.
For the first 60 years I was turned into a werewolf. Slowly, painfully. My human aging was halted by injections of vampire blood. After I successfully changed into a lycan(the most powerful version of a werewolf) they spent another 100 years turning my remaining bloodline into a vampire. After feeling your body tearing itself apart, you go numb to the pain. I've spent 300 years here in total. Experiment after experiment. To be their perfect toy. Their perfect pet. When all was said and done, my hair turned black and my eyes glowed red like blood. Monsters existed all under humanity's nose, and I had joined their ranks. Part of the damned. How many times had I wished for death during this whole ordeal yet there was now no god anywhere to hear me. Out of the 8 humans they experimented on I had been the only survivor. Lucky me. Werewolves created me this way to protect their strongest. To ensure their bloodline continued. I was to be shipped off to a werewolf pack far to the north. Snowy lands surrounded by mountains. I had finally been given some comfortable clothes and warm living quarters. I had forgotten what that felt like. They made sure to threaten me that if I didn't follow orders I was going to come back for “punishments”. That was enough for me to behave to be honest. I didn't care what needed to be done, I just wanted out of here.
The trip was rather short compared to the amount of time I had spent in this hell. Once we had arrived I was to meet the alpha of their pack. His name was Valin. A rather strict and religious type. His wife was the Luna. Almost like king and queen. They were capable enough to take care of themselves so I was to guard their heir, Elias. He was the same age as I was before I changed. My appearance was only that of a 23 year old, and that was what I was to tell people. My advanced hearing captured all the noises from outside the car as we drove the birds chirping. The animals were scurrying. The leaves crackled by the wind our car made. On occasion the driver claimed to need to open a window since I smelled like a half breed. Well I was, wasn't I? And who's fault was that I wonder…His pals. So I just flipped my hair at the remarks to scatter more of my scent to piss him off. He gripped the wheel tight to the point his knuckles were white. So easy to anger. Let's see if all werewolves are like that.
Apparently they are. As I entered the main hall of a giant mansion, a chair was thrown at the wall to my right. I looked over my shoulder at the destroyed chair without flinching, then back towards the direction it came from. An adult male had wine all over his white silk like shirt. Before him a young girl bowed on her knees trembling terribly. She begged and begged for forgiveness, triggering some not so pleasant memories in myself. I dropped my bag loudly. Their focus now was on me, anger all over his face. It vanished slightly as he inspected me.
"And who are you?" The male snapped.
"...Elias's…Bodyguard." I said, uncomfortable.
"You?! A scrawny woman? Ha!!" He laughed.
In a flash I grabbed him by the neck slamming him up against the wall. The wall behind him cracked, as he gasped for breath. My eyes glowed red, my face no emotions. I leaned into his ears whispering.
"They don't teach you manners here do they?" I sinisterly said.
I waited until he passed out, then dropped him. I wiped my hand on my clothes disgusted from even having to touch him. I turned around to face the girl who was on her knees still trembling. I assumed she was an omega. I've heard they are the low slaves around werewolf packs. I offered her a hand to stand.
"Fear not, I find no joy in bullying those with no means to defend themselves. You have nothing to worry about from me. Can you grab your Alpha Valin? I am expected." I said gently helping her up.
A few minutes later Valin came followed by his Luna/wife. A few guards accompanied them. They looked at the guy on the floor passed out, the wall, then me. I shrugged.
"He deserved it. He disrespected me."
Valin stared at me then laughed. His wife told the guard to take him to the pack doctor. Valin walked up to me then held out his hand for a hand shake. I shook his hand.
"Very glad the fellows at the lab weren't just blowing smoke up my ass. Welcome! I'm Valin as you know. That fool WAS our old head warrior, glad to see my son's guard is in her own league. He will be dealt with for disrespect. However for now allow me to introduce you to my wife and your new Luna Mary."
"A pleasure.." I say with a slight bow.
" Alright let me show you to your room." Valin smiles.
"Wait honey…her smell…no one will accept her here smelling like that." Mary sneers a bit saying that.
People were starting to get on my nerves with that s**t. It's not like I had a choice in how I smelled. Valin covered his mouth with his hand thinking.
"We will have to order some patches to put on her neck to hide her scent. Come with me…uh miss..? Pardon, I don't think I got your name." Valin questioned.
"...Rayka. My name is Rayka Ekai."
He nodded and lead me through the hallways to a room numbered #2. The door was rather fancy compared to the others. Once inside I was struck with a strong Alpha wolf scent. I pause after smelling it. The pressure wasn't something I was used to. Valin turned to look at me. He smiled tugging me inside. In the middle of a larger room was a young male crystalized in a red crystal. I gasped. It laid on the floor in a coffin-like shape.
"Is that your son?!" I was shocked.
"Yes he has been in there for a year now to recover from an assassination attempt. It happens all the time in our world. Our children were marked for death just for being a werewolf alpha. He's our last. Four others before him were killed. You are our solution. So don't mess up." He chuckled.
I nodded at his not so funny humor. He showed me around the room then left me to get settled. I sat on the bed. It was very soft. I laid back on the bed enjoying all the smallest details of the nice materials I had so long ago forgotten about. The luxuries of life I was robbed of for so long. Then it hit me how much I'd love a nice warm bath. Thank God this place had its own bathroom. I quickly made my way to the bathroom, grabbing a towel on the way. The bath tub was huge and separate from the shower. They also seemed to pack it full with many different fragrant bath bombs/bath salts. Man this was a rich place. I had been feeling a bit creative since this was the first time in centuries I was able to use the bath. I decided to try cherry blossom bath salts with a vanilla bath bomb and man did that smell good. Once the bath was filled with hot water I slowly sunk my body in moaning at how nice the water felt. The smell was intoxicating to me. My smells were heightened after all. Until the water started to cool I laid there enjoying every second of it. Once out of the tub I let the water drain while wrapped up in a towel. I used a second towel for my hair. When I returned from the restroom I heard a knock at the door. I went to answer it in my current state, not worried about being that way. Valin was at the door. His eyes traveled over my body then away quickly, his face flushing a light red. He handed me the patches we had discussed.
“Apologies I thought you would have been done by now. Here are the supplies. When you are clothed please meet me in my office. With the patches I added a map of the pack house.”
“Packhouse?” I questioned.
“Ah yes that’s what we call the mansion. All the pack members live here with us to help avoid our secret being discovered. Any human workers we hire live off the premises.” Valin said quickly, excusing himself.
His reaction made me laugh after I had closed the door. It’s like he’s never seen a woman before, and it’s not like I was naked in front of him. I was wrapped nicely in a towel. I shrugged it off and dried off putting on fresh clothes and placing a patch on my neck. Hopefully that worked to hide this weird smell everyone had complained about.
Once I was finished I headed to his office as instructed. Valin and his wife sounded like they were arguing over me. She didn't seem convinced that I was up to the task of protecting her precious baby boy.
" How do we even trust her?! It's not like she exactly volunteered for the job. Who would. She was kidnapped over 300 years ago to some science experiments. How do we know she won't flee the first chance she gets?!" The Luna argued, and to be honest she had a good point
"Dear if she flees the scientists will just find her and reeducate her. We will keep him safe if she can't handle it, like we already were. You worry too much my love. He's fine." Valin says cheerfully.
I shuddered at the thought of the "reeducation" part. I would do anything to stay out of there for the rest of my eternal life. I knocked on the door stopping her from arguing any further. They quickly answered the door, noticing my presence finally. They allowed me inside the office then shut the door behind me. The tension was thick in the air. The Luna stared daggers at me while Alpha Valin looked through papers on his desk. Once he had seemed to find the papers he was looking for he walked over and handed them to me.
"This is that pack schedule. They have schools on campus for the young ones as well as training for the warriors. My beta(second in command) Mavrik can be found there at most times. I let him handle the training and overseeing of our youth and warriors while I do finances and land distribution. He will take over your training. Follow this training schedule. That should be all. Dismissed." He waved me off without allowing me to speak.
Alpha Valin seems a bit lazy for an alpha. His beta seemed to do a lot more work than him. I looked at the map I was given. I made my way through the huge mansion they called a pack house to a court yard out back. The courtyard resembled a track meet. Very large. I guess they spared no expenses. While observing my surroundings I saw many people sparring or doing some sort of exercise. Then a large group stuck out as the group shifted into mighty wolves. They howled, seemingly trying to take down one man. He wasn't shifting. Either he's overly confident or stupid I thought. The wolves surrounded him. A growl ignited an attack from all directions. Five versus one hardly seemed fair. My thoughts were cut off watching this man not only swifty dodged every attack but seemed to land simultaneous counter attacks. Several wolves fell to the ground whimpering in pain. One stood it's ground though. Though something seemed off or rather familiar with this brown wolf. Its eyes were no longer on the man but on me. Its canines became exposed growling loudly and it launched at me. There was no time to think, instinct took over as I shifted into a wolf myself. Jet black fur covered my body with piercing red eyes. I'm sure I would've terrified normal people. I leaped from my spot snatching the wolf mid pounce from the air by their neck, then slammed them to the ground. I pinned them there growling menacingly.
"Ok I've seen enough. Thank you Emet." The man's voice broke the moment.
I quickly released the young wolf and stepped back allowing them to stand. My gaze now focused on this man. He smiled bowing slightly. He had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. His hair nothing special you wouldn't see an adult man have. Though his physic rather slim but muscular.
" My name is Mavrick. Sorry Lunas orders to test your reflexes."
Of course she would. I really don't like her.
" Don't take what Luna Sarah does personal. She's been through a lot as we all have. As I'm sure you know everyone handles life situations differently."
His eyes pierced through my very mind. It was very impressive to say the least. He knew exactly what I was thinking. Also was that the Lunas name? Why wasn't I told sooner? Has she that little respect for me to at least tell me her name? His look turned into confusion.
"I'm sorry did I say something wrong?" He asked.
I shook my head looking around for something to use to cover up so I could shift back. Once again he was one step ahead of me. He held out a robe. I quickly shifted back into human form. With the robe secured I looked back up to Beta Mavrick.
"Thank you for the robe." I finally say softly.
" No problem. Around here we respect each other after shifting. Not like human societies were nudity is gross or shameful. Here it's just a part of life if you can shift. Not much can be done about it. "
"Well then forgive me but that's something that will take me a while to get used to. Unlike all of you I'm not from this society." I stated.
"Ah yes I've heard from Valin. I won't get into that though. So he sent you here for training I presume?"
I nodded. The young brown wolf shifted into the young man I met when I first arrived here. Oh so this was the d**k head that was picking on the omega. No wonder he seemed familiar. He glared daggers at me and he tightened his own robe. I gave him a small wink which seemed to startle him. He was taken aback and quickly looked away. He ordered Emet to give him the training logs. He told me the times during the weeks he was free to train me. After we settled on the details I was sent back to the room I shared with Elias.
Entering the room felt warm and inviting. I couldn't place my finger on why though. Was it my new found freedom and lack of physical pain. A sweet scent invaded my nose. Following it led me to Elias' crystalized coffin. I examined it, noticing a crack down the center. His eyes open slowly, shattering the crystal into dust. He plopped to the ground sitting up holding his head.
