"What are you doing?" the man asked, holding her hand just as she was about to unbutton his shirt. He was lying in a hospital bed, and they weren't alone, two of his guards were watching them from the corner of the operation room.
Her eyebrows rose. "What do you think? I'm helping you undress so I can see your wound clearly," she explained, reaching to continue, but he stopped her again.
"I can manage," he said, looking away.
Her eyes narrowed. Does this man even know how to be shy? Unbelievable. He's such a troublemaker, stubborn to the bone. And on top of that, a Mafia boss, how could someone like him get embarrassed?
"Hey, stop daydreaming and start treating me."
She blinked at the sound of his voice. When she looked up, he was shirtless, and her gaze immediately fell on his bare chest.
What a broad chest... and those tattoos, insanely good. Somehow, they suit him perfectly, her subconscious whispering as her eyes scanned his body.
"Done fantasizing about me?" he snapped, his eyes locking onto hers.
She cleared her throat, forcing herself to focus. Sliding her gloves on, she reached for the cotton she would use to clean his wound.
Her lips twisted as she noticed the wound's location. "Lucky the bullet didn't hit your... manhood. It was just inches away from the wound, or else you'd probably lose the ability to have an heir," she said casually, continuing to clean the blood.
The man grunted, lifting his head slightly as she pressed against the wound to check its depth.
"f**k!" he cursed, unable to bear the pain.
Immediately, his two guards stepped forward, pointing their guns at her.
"What are you doing?" one demanded, glancing at their master, who now had his eyes tightly shut.
She stood calmly, steadying herself, and reached for the injection she was about to give him.
"Wait! I'm still asking, what are you doing? Why does it look like you're hurting our boss?" the same guard repeated, gripping her hand to stop her.
She took a deep breath and glanced at the man's guards. "I'm treating him, what else?" she replied, immediately pulling her arms away from him.
"No, it looks like you're just going to make his condition worse," the man said stubbornly, even moving a gun closer to her head.
She sighed. "If you keep barking like a dog, I'll probably end up harming him. If you want to save your boss, you'd better leave us alone and let me treat him," she said bravely.
Her patient opened his eyes and glared at his guards, then lifted a hand to signal them to calm down.
She rolled her eyes. "You should've told them to go out and leave us, so I could treat you faster," she said, meeting his gaze.
"Boss, you shouldn't-"
"It's okay, Cloud. You can go out with Shen," he said, using a hand signal to dismiss his two guards.
"We can't just leave you with this strange woman," Cloud argued.
She glanced at him. "If you don't trust me, then let's just wait for his death."
"Go, Cloud. No need to worry. I can manage," their boss insisted.
Cloud sighed, then grabbed the hands of his comrades and they walked toward the door, leaving them behind.
"Can you start now?"
She blinked at the sound of his voice and cleared her throat. "Right," she replied, reaching for the painkiller injection, when he suddenly caught her hand.
"What is that?" he asked, frowning.
"Painkiller," she explained seriously. "You have a severe wound. I need to give you this so that, while I remove the bullet, you won't feel pain."
"No. I don't need it. Just get the damn bullet and bandage my wound," he insisted, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
One of her eyebrows arched. "Are you sure? You really don't need it?"
"I am. I'm not afraid of pain," he replied, closing his eyes.
"But... you are afraid of injections," she murmured, retrieving the tools she needed to extract the bullet.
"f**k!" he cursed as she carefully applied the DeBakey forceps, grasped the bullet, and placed it into the surgical instrument tray.
She then checked for internal organ damage.
"Luckily, your organs are intact. No damage," she declared, pressing a clean gauze over the deep abdominal wound, forcing her hands to stay steady despite her rapid heartbeat. She gripped the pad with the dressing forceps and wrapped the sterile bandage roll around him, making sure it held firm without cutting off circulation. Every motion had to be precise; she couldn't afford a mistake.
Her eyes flicked to his face, catching the brief flash of pain in his eyes, and she swallowed hard.
"Oh, f**k!" he groaned.
She tightened the final layer, stepping back just enough to assess her work. The bleeding had slowed. The wound was protected. For now, that had to be enough.
"I told you, painkillers would have helped, but you're stubborn, so you had to endure that," she said, standing beside him.
The man didn't reply, just glared at her. Then he did something beyond her imagination. He pulled her closer and bit her neck.
Her eyes widened in shock as pain shot through her system.
"Ah!" she cried, pushing him back.
"Now, we're even," he said, wiping the blood from his lips.
She reached for the scissors and held them tightly.
"What? Are you going to use that to stab me?" the man asked, smirking.
That only made her angrier. "Yes. And no one can stop me," she snapped, lifting the scissors in the air. She only wanted to scare him a little, he was getting on her nerves.
Suddenly, his guards burst into the room, stopping her from brushing the scissors against his hospital gown to frighten him.
"What are you doing?" Cloud demanded, striding forward and snatching the scissors from her hand.
"It's alright, Cloud. We're just having fun," their boss said, winking at her.
She bit her lower lip, desperately wanting to scream and curse him, but held back.
"We found the traitor," another guard reported.
"Good," their boss replied, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
"Let's go then," he added, making her eyes widen. He had just been treated, he couldn't possibly leave already.
"What are you doing? You need rest-" Her words hung in the air.
"Bring her with us," he declared. Before she could resist, Cloud struck her from behind, and everything went black.
