Chapter 5

"Cloud, bring her with us. Our boss needs her." Mary Sunshine immediately turned around when she heard a familiar voice behind her. She had been standing outside the room where William Thomas II was staying. "Is he done?" she asked quickly, looking at Shen, one of William's bodyguards. "Yes. And his wound reopened. You need to treat him," Shen replied. Her eyebrow arched. Did he move around so much that he ended up hurting himself? "That's what he gets for being stubborn and reckless," she murmured under her breath. "How dare you say that about our boss?" Cloud snapped, gripping her hand tightly. She yanked her hand away. "What? I'm just telling the truth," she replied boldly, massaging her wrist where he squeezed her. "You-" "Cloud, stop arguing with her," Shen cut in sharply. "Just bring her inside. I'll get the medical kit." Cloud clenched his jaw and reached for her hand again, but she stepped back. "No need to drag me. I can walk by myself," she declared before striding into the room on her own. When she stepped inside, she found William sitting in his wheelchair, a cigarette dangling from his lips. The man she had been questioning earlier was still there, only now unconscious. "You're here," William said as soon as their eyes met. She walked toward him, stopping right in front of his chair. Without hesitation, she plucked the cigarette from his mouth, tossed it to the floor, and crushed it under her heel before she finally spoke. "I am. Didn't you bring me here to treat you?" she replied, her tone edged with sarcasm. William let out a low laugh. He lifted a hand and pointed at her, shaking his finger slowly, clearly amused by her boldness. "Doesn't it scare you, knowing I kidnapped you and dragged you into this hellhole?" he asked. One of her eyebrows arched. "Why would I?" she answered. "You just gave me the opportunity I've been waiting for. So no, I'm more excited than afraid," her mind whispered. She glared at him, but William only stared back deeply, as if trying to read her thoughts. Her lips curled into a small smile as she reached for his shirt and began to unbutton it, only for him to catch her hand, stopping her in place. "Fearless as always. I like that," William murmured, and in one swift movement, he cupped her chin and pulled her closer. "What are you doing?" she asked, their lips just inches apart. "I need something to distract me," he replied. And before she could process his words, his lips crashed softly but firmly against hers. Behind them, the two guards gasped and immediately turned around. Her eyes widened, but she didn't push him away. She let him kiss her, staying still until he finally pulled back, satisfied. "That was good. I'm a bit calm now. You can start treating me," William said casually, as if the kiss meant nothing more than a momentary distraction. She rolled her eyes. What else could she expect from someone like him? "Go on. Start treating me, and stop daydreaming," William snapped, snapping her out of her thoughts. She sighed, unbuttoned his shirt fully this time, and began checking his wound. Shen placed the medical kit on the table beside her, making it easier for her to reach what she needed. "It's done," she said when she finally finished. "Now," she added, fixing the medical kit and handing it back to Shen, "can you explain to me why you brought me here?" "Isn't it obvious? I brought you here to treat me," William replied, casually fixing his shirt. "Aside from that, if you only wanted treatment, you didn't need to kidnap me. You could've gone to my clinic," she shot back, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. William scoffed. "Do I look like the type of man who has the time to go back and forth to your clinic?" "So this is your solution? Kidnapping me?" she snapped, folding her arms across her chest. "Yes. Why? I thought you weren't scared of any of this?" William countered, twirling one of the rings on his finger. "I'm not," she replied firmly. "But you didn't have to go this far. If you can't come to the clinic, I could have visited you myself." "But I want you to stay by my side," William said. One of her eyebrows shot up. "What?" "I want you to take care of me, personally," William Thomas II said, his icy gaze locking onto hers. The wheelchair didn't diminish him; if anything, it made the power radiating from him even sharper, more dangerous. Mary Sunshine Nowak squared her shoulders, forcing down the storm rising inside her. "If you're going to ask for a favor, Mr. Thomas," she said, her voice cutting clean like a scalpel, "you shouldn't kidnap the person you're asking it from. And for the record, I'm a doctor, not a babysitter." A slow, dangerous smile curved across his lips. "Then be my personal doctor," he said, his tone leaving no room for refusal. "I don't take no for an answer, Ms. Nowak." Her lips parted, and she blinked twice, trying to gather her composure. "Wow. Just... wow. You really are something, Mr. Thomas. But what if I insist on refusing you?" she said, locking her gaze on him. She wanted to gauge how much he needed her, how much he wanted her, so she could know her limits when it came to making demands. "I'm not asking for your permission," William replied, his authoritative voice cutting through the room as if no one could defy him. "I'm only telling you so the decision doesn't fall to you, but to me." "That's right. Be obsessed with me, William, So I can use you against your father and ruin your life, just as you ruined mine," her subconscious whispered. " "Did you just cut out your tongue?" William asked, noticing her sudden silence. She was about to answer when someone suddenly interrupted. "Boss, your father invited you to attend a party at Mr. Hades' mansion, for his daughter's welcome celebration," one of the guards reported, handing William an invitation. William accepted it, but she could see the flicker of displeasure in his expression. "What's the matter?" she asked, curiosity slipping past her restraint. William shifted his gaze from the invitation to hers, a slow smirk forming on his lips. "Nothing. You will go with me to this party," he declared, pulling her closer so she could sit on his lap. "You will be my date." She placed her fingers gently on his cheeks. "That would be my great pleasure," she said, her voice steady despite the storm of anticipation inside her. Finally, she would meet the people behind her parents' deaths, the reckoning she had been waiting for could begin.
