The rest of the return journey to Peregrine passed much faster than the outward journey had, and far more pleasurably. Not that they spent all their time in one or the other of the tiny beds…or, during one incredibly awkward and unrepeated experiment, in one of the two control chairs. They also spent a lot of time talking, more time, Lorn realized, than he had ever spent talking to a single individual in his life. Yet despite the pleasure he was taking in circumstances as they had evolved, Lorn couldn’t stop a seed of doubt from taking root in the back of his mind concerning Kiri’s feelings for him.
