Chapter 37: Battle Frontier (Part 7)

We reach a realization that our strength was not enough to defeat the lady yesterday.

Taki and Yumi felt the same way like I am. The lady yesterday just destroy us with her physical body. Just being reminded of her make me tremble in fear.

It was morning and as planned we‘re going to enter the battle event in the battle tower. After waking our faces and eating our breakfast we headed into the tower immediately.

Glenn noticed our stiff despaired expression.

“What’s with those faces? What exactly happened yesterday?”

“We encounter a frontier master yesterday. She mercilessly hit us with her fist.”

“That’s to be expected… That girl must be the blonde girl with a braid. She is famous for showing no mercy on her opponents. All of her opponents lose something after battling her in the ring. you're lucky that she didn’t decide to cut break your bones or take your eyes.”

Hearing stories about her made her more terrifying.

A cold chill goes through my spine making me shiver. I put both of my hands on my arms and embrace myself.

“Laura are you fine?”

“Laura did take the most damage yesterday. If I find that girl again I will surely avenge you with all my might. I can't forgive her for hurting my friend.”

Yumi angrily declared.

“That’s good, just make use to use that anger as a weapon. Anger will push you forward. But still, you must think and cool your head.”

Glenn commented and patted Yumi’s head.

Taki pretends that she’s no seeing anything but Taki is very jealous right now of how Glenn treats Yumi. To make her feel good I patted her head instead.

“I do appreciate your effort… Laura…”

We talked to the receptionist and register our names in the battle event happening on the first floor. Taki’s privileged to have access in floor 21 to floor 30 already had expired and she needs to start over again.

There’s no age limit in the fight as long as you wanted to climb the battle tower. We are given a player number. Our flight was scheduled immediately after registration.

My player number was 0012. Yumi had 0013 and Taki had 0014.

Looking in the giant monitor our number appeared next to our number was the opponent player number.

“My opponent will be player 0002… I wonder what kind of payer he was.”

Behind my back, a woman suddenly giggles. She put her fan on her moth and look down on my body.

“This girl will be my opponent? Player number 0012. Is this some kind of joke? I was wondering if a much stronger opponent. Looks like I will have a first free win this morning. The fortune-teller is wrong for saying that I had bad luck. Today is indeed a lucky day.”

There is a rule in the battle tower which a player can forfeit the battle and let the other player win. This can only be used three times and considered as a loss. Of a player lose three times. The player was sent back to the first floor.

“These three girls are all going in the battle event. Your parents must be horrible for letting you battle at such young age… You three ca forfiet you know. The battle is painful, if you cry here your mother will not come here to comfort you and feed you milk.”

She was so irritating. Throwing insults to my mother and my friends. I will make sure to make this her bad day.

“Laura is releasing such a dangerous aura!”

"So scary.”

I look at the woman with raging and full of seriousness. She just turns her back and laughs.

After a long wait, my number was called and I got ready to enter the ring. The announcer called my name after my name the woman was called. I’m so angry I can’t hear anything at that moment.

My interest was all focused on defeating this woman in front of me.

Then I decided not to pull my sword at this battle.

“Aren’t you going to pull your sword?”

“My sword is not for likes of you. I will defeat you with my one hand.”

“You have such a prideful mouth for a young age. No hard feeling but this is a fight. Get ready to be hurt.”

In a normal fight, there were rules.

1. When the player who gains 10 points wins the match. The points will be decided by the referee. 1 point for basic attacks and 2 for such creative attacks used by the player or critical hit.

2. When the other player said “I give up on the match.” The other player won automatically.

3. Killing is f*******n, but putting serious injuries is allowed.

4. Knocking out the opponent will means victory to the other side.

5. Players can’t get out of the ring. The player who stepped outside of the ring is considered defeated.

The woman with her fand confident charges toward my direction. Her fan emerges blades on its side. She swings her hand and attempted to cut on my body.

I dodge her first attack. I bend my body down. Because of my short body. Her attack missed. I then pushed her stomach with my right palm.

“Wind magic: Wind blast!”

Accompanied by my chant a powerful blast of wind was created. Boom sound was echoed and made the prideful woman flew toward the wall outside of the ring. 

“Way to go Laura!”

“Good reflexes to dodge and counter… I see looks like Laura gotten has some other teacher out there.”

“That’s true, Laura told us before that she had a master named Koyuki.”

“Koyuki is one of the legendary adventurers. Her teaching Laura was great news. That means Laura was worth teaching.”

“Then, all I need to do is prove myself to you.”

Taki said in front of Glenn.

“You already passed… I was interested in red eyes like you. As your teacher, I was happy to teach talented children. Red eyes are said to have a special blessing of strength. That may be the same case for you. That’s why I already decided to teach you all.”

Yumi and Taki look at each other and nodded.

I who just came from the ring goes back in backstage to see my Glenn and the rest.

“That was cool Laura, you made her unconscious with one attack.”

“I plan to have the same strategy of pushing the other player out of the ring. That will be a great idea I guess.”

“If that’s the case I will knock down each player with my hand.”

Yumi said.

After that Yumi’s name was called out. She is battling another big guy this time covered with chains. I was worried for Yumi for a moment. There is a possibility that we met some player that can use magic and have the ability.

If that happened my strategy has to be changed and I need to pull my sword.

My worries were put at bay. When Yumi hand-chopped the back of her opponent's neck. Knocking down her opponent rapidly.

“Both of you don’t really like to battle arent you.”

Taki said as she looks at Yumi and me.

Taki’s name was called and it’s time for her to shine. Borrowing my technique Taki just kicks her opponent out of the ring. Leading her to fast victory.

We all met up in the back and cheers. We celebrate our victory and jump in joy. Because of the results of each fight. We started to have confidence in our skills and continue fighting.

In the next nine rounds, we all did the same and reach the 11th floor. The three of us became popular to the audience as the three talented kids that entered the battle tower.

I was happy that we're not breaking any sweat at all.

Now that we are on floor 11. The difficulty started to rise. We felt it when she came to pass by.

It's the girl we fought last night.

Walking in the same Hallway, The blonde braid girl turned her glance on us.

“Looks like you three are no ordinary kids. I was watching your battle. I was interested in each of you. A girl with tremendous magic Laura, A red-eyed girl Yumi and a prodigy Taki. I was looking forward to our fight.”

I stepped forward looking seriously at her eyes.

“I heard that your breaking people's bones in the battle.”

“Yes? I did that to give them the warning that this place is not for the likes of them. This is the battle tower. The strong one is the one who can reach the top and no one else. If you are not as strong as me or stronger. You won’t get past floor 25.”

“Next time I’ll be the one breaking your bones.”

I said.

“Hehehehehe… That’s good, I started to like you. You're so brave. Then if I win I will break both of your legs. I’ll make sure to make you repent and regret everything you said on my right now.”

Unlike the prideful woman earlier. This girl has real strength and has been feared by everyone.

“I will also do the same… I will break your bones too.”

“Me too.”

Taki and Yumi are on the same page as me. Seems like they both wanted to take revenge for what she did to them.

“Hehehehehe… Then I’m taking the challenge. Let's go make things interesting. I’ll battle until the 50th floor and became the 50th-floor frontier master. Came there and make sure to have an ability. Looking at you I know you three don’t have it. See you, three girls.”

She turned her body around and leave.

With her words of mockery. The three of us were fire up to earn how to use and make our unique abilities.
