Chapter 36: Battle frontier (Part 6)

Returning to the apartment. We have dinner together with the three of us. Glenn was not able to come back due to work.
Looking around the apartment. I can’t see anything at all besides this basic furniture. This place really doesn’t have a personality. There's not even a single frame of picture hanging on the wall.
Because of that, I came to think that Glenn might be lonelier. He doesn’t have pictures of his friends on the wall because he doesn’t have friends.
I feel sorry for him. But Glenn doesn’t seem to be a bad person at all.
While eating. The three of us were watching the television. The news still contains the happening earlier. The huge explosion. In the end, the knight named Zenon was killed and burned into a charcoal-like state.
That man William ability sure is amazing. It’s an ability to copy other ability and use it like his own. Because of that, he can prepare for every fight he will get.
Having powerful combinations in each ability he copied.
That is very powerful, but that is not suited for my fighting style. My fighting style is charging a slashing my enemy with my sword in full power.
I know 10 wind skills. I think it’s already decent because each of my skills was powerful enough to cut down monsters and demons alike.
Ability is another wonder. As long it made me stronger I don’t care at all.
I need to become stronger to travel this world. Especially now that I know Mayu is still alive. Because of that, I need to continue and move forward.
I thought optimistically about my future. I put the spoon on my rice and took a bite.
Tonight we’re having pork chop and rice as dinner. Taki is always in charge of cooking in this place. Yumi does the dishes and I sweep the floor.
Cleaning the house is very easy. The apartment doesn’t have many items on it anyway. The plates used are washed immediately after use.
“William wins the fight. I feel bad for that knight that got burned because of the explosion.”
Taki said while looking at the television monitor. She then stood up and put her dishes on the sink.
“Tomorrow Glenn told us to fight. I felt nervous and terrified. What if my opponent was like William? I don’t want to burn into crisp like Zenon.”
I said.
“You can just bailout in the fight. Measuring the opponent's skills was necessary for the battle tower. If you don’t want to die. You should just know you’re opponent.”
It’s been three days since we got here in Battle Frontier. Glenn is not teaching us anything and just in the measuring phase. He still has a hard time trusting us to be his students.
Turning my eye’s on the clock. There was still much time and I don’t feel sleepy at all. 6:30 PM is the time.
Yumi and I stood up from our seats and put our dishes in the sink. We started doing our chores. After few moments, we are left bored seating on the couch watching television.
I love watching movies with my mother but this feeling right now. I don’ like it at all. Is there something I should do to entertain myself?
These past years, my entertainment was to swing this sword. After eating I swing my sword 100 times before taking a bath and sleeping.
The tired feeling before going to the bed. My body is searching for it. This place was too cramp to swing my sword around.
“I feel bored… I came here to learn how to have the ability. When did Glenn plan to teach us?”
Yumi said and make a sigh.
“I did feel the same way.”
I said.
“Glenn has trust issues… We know each other for a while but he's still hesitating in teaching me. I’m a bit angry with him. We need to tell him that we are not kidding anymore. Let’s prove to him that we can stand up on our own.”
Taki said. She then stood up and turn her body on Yumi and me. In an excited expression, she continues.
“Sitting here won’t do us any good. Let’s go and investigate more about it. We should learn a lot by watching other people fight in the battle tower. Maybe, were gonna get some new fighting styles and techniques. Let’s prove to Glenn that we are serious.”
“Is the battle tower still open at this hour?”
Taki nodded and responded and get some scarf and jacket to protect us in the chilly breeze of wind in the nighttime.
“Battle tower is always open. No matter what time of day. The battle inside the tower continues. Battle tower is also called the tower of dreams. People who are at the top were rewarded with riches… When an adventurer reaches the 15th floor. The adventurer started earning money in each fight. Before I reach until 21st floor. I earn a decent amount of money to feed myself and put in my saving account.”
Savings account… I’ll go have one in the future.
I like the money the same way with Taki. Because it’s necessary for surviving. Money determines where you're going to stay at night. Money also determines what kind of food you eat and the clothes you wear.
Money is important, but still, I know that money can’t buy happiness. My true happiness of living a peaceful life with my mother and Mayu will never be bought by money after all.
“Making money is the main point I arrived in this place. I almost forgot about it. I got too consumed in thinking about battles and ability.”
“Laura sure thinks about money.”
“It’s fine it’s necessary. Now let’s go out and have some fun.”
We leave the apartment and lock the door. The three of us happily go to the Battle Tower.
Arriving in the Battle Tower. We buy tickets going to watch the fight on the upper floor. We choose the 10th floor.
Before we seat down on our seats we buy some snacks enjoy as we watch every fight.
“Taki how high is this tower anyway?”
“How high? I don’t know how high this tower, I’m also wondering.”
“This tower has 143 floors to be exact.”
An unknown man in his middle age seating in front of us answered my question. He then turned his face on us.
“... Are you girls? Planning on reaching the top?”
“Well, we just want to have some fight and reach 50 consecutive wins.”
I replied.
The man chuckles a laugh and looks at us.
“Hahahahahaha… Kids these days sure are brave… But bravery and stupidity are different things. 50 consecutive wins are impossible for little girls like you. People on the 20th floor above was beyond your normal adventurer.”
The unknown man turns his head back to the fighting stage.
I feel irritated when he laughs at me. I feel like he's looking down on me. It's pissing me off.
Yumi felt the same way. With furious eye’s we both tempted to smack his head with our fists. Taki whose seating between the two of us. Tried her best to pull the two of us together and avoid the trouble.
“To pass through the 25th floor you need to battle one of the frontier masters on this island.”
“Frontier master?”
“Every 25 floor there was a strong adventurer called frontier master. After reaching 25 wins a player was given a pass to challenge the frontier master. When the frontier master was defeated. You can take its place or continue. Most of the people want to take over the throne. 25th frontier master was the easiest one after all. Still, that place was highly valuable because of the exclusive things a frontier master can get just by being one.”
“What is this old man talking about?”
“Don’t call me old man… Geez, kids don’t know how to respect older people these days it’s making me worried.”
“Frontier master get a free apartment, free food, and earns million just by being one.”
After hearing that Taki and my eyes sparkle and glitter.
Earning millions. I can travel the world with that money.
“if it’s the 25th-floor frontier master it may be a weak one.”
“That’s correct… but this past three month was different… A girl from a noble family was able to join the battle tower. She mercilessly defeated the other players just in one day. She became the frontier master by the day she came into this place.”
Just hearing the downcast tone of the old man's voice. I gulped my saliva and think about it.
He seems very serious and the atmosphere around him turned very moody.
That means these past three months no one was able to defeat the 25th floor and no one was able to climb the 26th floor because of this troublesome girl.
After watching ten fights, we rose from our seats and decided to go back home.
“Each battle was intense… Too bad we‘re not able to see anyone who used ability. Everyone uses magic only and skill as their offense. Laura, what do you think about the old man's words?”
“Me? I don’t know… Maybe his just wanting to tease us by telling such stories.”
“Do you think he's just scaring us?”
“I just find it weird that the 25th frontier master is not moving up. If the privilege of the 25th frontier master was high then maybe the 50th, 75th, 100th, and 125th was greater than hers.”
“Maybe… Or maybe she’s sacred.”
While we are walking in the hallway reaching the Battle tower exit. We're having a chat with each other we happened to pass by with an unknown girl. A slender girl with blonde braid hair. Wearing a white qipao with golden highlights. (Note: Qipao is an Chinese traditional clothes.)
“Sacred?”
The blonde girl strangles me and then lifts me.
What is this girl doing? I can’t breathe… I’m losing air…
Yumi steps forward to the blonde girl to attack her, but she just got smackdown immediately with one kick.
Taki throws her fist. The blonde girl sweeps her hand to deflect Taki’s fist and then grabbed Taki’s arms. She throws Taki in Yumi’s direction. Resulting in Taki crashing on Yumi’s body.
“Stop it, my lady.”
Another lady appeared wearing the same clothes but with long back hair.
“But his girls are laughing at me calling me scared.”
“It’s just kidding my lady, they don’t deserve a little of your attention.”
“You’re right…”
The other woman seemed to convince the blonde girl and put me down. After putting me down. She immediately delivers a knee attack to my stomach.
My knees fall to the ground.
“I felt good now… Next time you three should think before speaking.”
With those words, she tells.
Taki, Yumi, and I already know who she was. The girl that mercilessly hurt us suddenly was the 25th-floor frontier master.
Such power… I didn’t even feel a trace of magic or skill. Looks like 50 consecutive wins and reaching the 51st floor is no easy task.
