Chapter 39: Battle Frontier (Part 9)

“Laura! Laura! Laura!”

“Mama… I’m so happy I’m able to meet you again. But why you look so sad?”

I said and hug her. She pulls me on her body and hugs me tightly. Her embrace was so warm.

“I said it over and over again right? Don’t go outside of the village… Why can’t you understand me? Don’t go away from the village… Don’t go outside of the village… Just stay in the village… Laura! Laura! My beloved Laura…”

Why my mother is always telling me those words? Why I’m not allowed to go outside of the village?

“Laura I’m sorry for leaving you behind…”

After saying her words she let go of me and turn her body around. She walked toward unknown darkness.

“Mama… Don’t leave me… Mama! Mama! Don’t leave me!”

I called out for her but she didn’t hear me. I tried to run in her direction but on my feet. I find myself being pulled by something else.

Pitch black creatures with sharp fangs and horns. It resembles the figure of a demon.

I was terrified. I started to feel exhausted. Making my body make heavy breaths.

My body was so hot.

It’s so hot.

“Mama! Mama! Mama! Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me! I want to be with you! Please don’t leave me alone… I won’t be bad anymore. I won’t say anything bad to you anymore. I will be a good girl for now one… Please don’t leave me… Please…”

I was losing my breath and my consciousness.

…

“Laura! Laura! Wake up, Laura!”

I heard someone calling my name and open my eyes. I still felt exhausted and having a hard time chasing my breaths.

I’m laying in the bed and beside me was Taki and Yumi with a worried expression on their faces.

Taki put a bowl of porridge on the table beside my bed and put her hands on my forehead.

“This is bad you still have fever… Laura should have a good rest before training again. Maybe you became mentally and physically exhausted on your training.”

“I will be right beside you Laura… I’m your best friend after all.”

I seat on the bed and look at Taki and Yumi.

“Thank you so much, Taki, Yumi… With me having fever. I might not be able to fight on the battle tower today.”

“Don’t worry about those kinds of things. Your health is much important than everything. Yumi and I decided to postpone fighting today. We wanted to stay home and take care of you.”

I felt dejected and look down.

I felt like I became a burden to their progress.

“I’m sorry…”

Yumi suddenly slaps my face, resulting in me waking up. I was stunned and turn my glance to Yumi.

“I don’t care about climbing the tower. You are much more important than anything in this world. You are my first friend. I can’t afford to lose you. Laura should stop saying that kind of thing. We are your friends! Please rely on us…”

Taki nodded in agreement.

Friend... huh…

That’s right they are my friend. Even though I lost everything in the tragedy two years ago. I did make new connections in this world.

I met Koyuki and her daughters. The sisters Kaoru and Belle. My friends Koyome, Yumi and Taki. New instructors Master Karyll, Glenn, and Kuro.

I’m not alone at all.

“Have this porridge Yumi and I did our best in cooking it.”

I was happy to have friends like these two. There are caring and kind person. My mother will be proud if she is still around.

I take the porridge from the table and grabbed a spoon. Turning my glance at it closely. I started to notice its a weird color. The porridge is in violet color and screaming demise or evil.

This looks like a porridge made by a witch.

I feel disappointed with the porridge. But Taki and Yumi did their best to make this meal just for me.

Is it okay to put something so sinister on my body in my current weak self? That’s an absolute no! No!

“Laura, you don’t like the meal we make for you?”

Yumi asked with a despondent expression on her face. Turing my eye’s beside her Taki is on the same page.

I gulp my saliva and pull all my courage. I take a scoop on the violet substance. The liquid was roaring like an evil soul in hell.

My eyes are whirling and my hands were shaking.

Taki and Yumi did their best I must try it out. I must fulfill my position as their friend.

“Don’t eat it, Laura.”

Glenn took the bowl and the scoop filled with violet substance.

“What’s the big deal, Glenn? That’s for Laura because she is sick!”

“Laura will die before she got cured of her fever! Who is in the right mind to make something like this? It looks poisonous.”

Glenn yelled. Taki and Yumi were on verge of their tears upon hearing Glenn’s harsh comments on the meal they created.

“But Master Karyll said the medicine is good when it was bitter. The nurse in the Everfloria same the same thing.”

“That’s why Yumi and I, used the medicine and some herbs we buy on the market. We mix it all to make Laura feel better. It’s a medicine porridge.”

“More like killing porridge… Anyway, I bought some medicine and I will create a meal for Laura. Both of you should focus on your ability making. You two have lots of time because you two don’t want to fight yet right?”

“I already think about my ability. I will be surprising for Laura if she sees it.”

Yumi said.

“I’m still thinking.”

Eh? They already started making abilities. Just how long did I fell asleep from my fever? I didn’t notice the time at all.

If Taki and Yumi are already learning to create their abilities I should better have some rest and recover quickly. I can’t afford to say in my place while the other two are advancing already.

I don't want to be left behind.

Glenn cooks meals for me and I look on Taki and Yumi concentrating on creating their unique abilities.

Following days later. I was still not fully recover from my fever. I still have to rest. Glenn visits my room and gives me a book to learn something while I was in my bed. He also explained to me the fundamentals of making abilities.

Making abilities is defined as a secret form of magic. This magical power called abilities can be constructed with rules, creativity, and uniqueness.

Abilities are solely made by the magic user's imaginations. 

But the abilities are compatible. If a wind magic user likes me used earth-based abilities. I will be in huge trouble. Glenn told me that constructing abilities must be aligned with your own self. Abilities also define the character of the user. Strenght straightforward abilities are more likely owned by aggressive people. Complicated abilities are more likely owned by smart people.

While I was in my bed. I was wondering what kind of abilities I should have.

I’m a wind magic-user. Wind means freedom and adaptability.

“I can’t think of anything… Urg…”

I said as I put my hand on my head. I roll over and over on my bed.

At that time. A flash of lightning suddenly struck and illuminated the room where I’m in. Following the lightning was the heavy sound of thunder.

“Lightning?”

My eyes glimmer and look above the sky.

“Lightning.”

Lightning is branching with the wind elements. Maybe I was wrong but the wind element is close to lightning. Lightning was fast and powerful. If I find a way to use lightning as my ability it would be great.

I will have two attributes on my stash. Having it is going to become a huge asset when I became an adventurer who traveled the world.

I was so excited I’m shivering.

I put my hand on my head and notice my temperature. I can move my body normally and nothing hurts anymore. I jump up and down. After that, I check my temperature on the thermometer to be sure.

I saw my temperature at 36.0 degrees.

“I’m back to normal.”

Tomorrow I can join Taki and Yumi in their practice. Also, the three of us will go up in the battle tower and destroy that girl.

The next day has come and I wake up early. Taki and Yumi are very happy seeing my back in my energetic self. Glenn was well even he rarely made any expression on his face. He looks at me and smiles.

Now that the three of us were complete. We all talk about the ability we wanted to master.

“That ability I wanted to master was the ability to counter back damage dealt with me. It’s an ability I will call “Full counter”. My body is good with enduring and resisting because of my big sister's daily t*****e before. I wanted to learn such ability.”

“Yumi’s Big sister indeed made a huge scar on her mentality. But Full counter is not a  bad idea. An ability that counters anything was used to being a powerful one. Yumi is red-eyed and has a steel-like body. That might be a fitting ability for Yumi… How about you Taki?”

“M-Me? It’s a bit complicated but I decided to learn sound manipulation. As a sound magic user. This ability will focus on manipulating sound waves.”

“Sound waves that’s complicated indeed but Taki was smart I knew you can find a way to learn it in no time. Laura is in the bed for a week. It’s okay if you don’t answer for now.”

“No! I decided already. The magic I wanted to learn. I already decided on something.”

Yumi and Taki turned their eyes on me with awe.

“Really?”

“My best friend is awesome.”

Well, I’m not just laying in my bed for this week.

“The ability I chose to master was lightning s***h or high-speed s***h. A s***h that is fast as lightning. Not only that this ability will able to make my body faster than before.”

“Interesting idea. You’re a sword user and slashing is one of your most basic attacks. Being able to s***h fast like lightning is really good. Master Karyll is not wrong in choosing the three of you. Such interesting ideas in a young girl's mind. With that said I will help the three of you achieve your goals.”

Glenn said.

After that, another three weeks of hell-like training happened. It’s good that I didn’t get any fever anymore. But something bad happened.

Looking at our wallets. Taki, Yumi, and I don’t have single money left on us.

This is a problem!
