Chapter 35: Battle Frontier (Part 5)

Ability to construct a dragon and a man with multiple abilities. This is on a different level from the magic I was taught. Magic was the main fundamental of these abilities.

After the breath of flames, the wholes stage was then covered with smoke due to explosion and flames.

“This is going to be dangerous… Zenon will never gonna stand a chance against that kind of man. That man I already saw his face before. His more likely in the same level with the shadow workers in Black City.”

Glenn commented.

“Shadows workers?”

“They are said to be an unknown yet dangerous group of elite adventurers. The world is quite not what everyone thinks it was. People always think that monsters and demons were the enemies of mankind in this world. But that was wrong, the main enemy of mankind was itself… I leave like that for now but I’m sure someone like Laura will understand it someday.”

I don’t quite understand it yet. The meaning behind those words Taki said.

Despite being the same age as me. Her eye indeed looks fierce at this moment.

I never asked it on getting, but I wonder what kind of story Taki has. Why did she become an apprentice knight? Thinking about it makes my head spinning.

My expression became white out.

“Laura are you okay? Come back on us!”

Taki then put her hands on my shoulder and started shaking me.

“Thinking about unknown things is very hard.”

I muttered with a soulless voice.

“Laura!”

Reading too much and being loaded with interesting information makes me overthink things. Shadow Workers? Black City?

Maybe that’s the reason I wanted to travel the world. To know these things and see them on me.

The world sure is an interesting place.

The battle continues on the stage. But the players were not on the stage anymore. The fight took place outside of the stage. The audience is started to get caught in the dangerous battle between William and Zenon.

Looking beside me I saw myself. She looks like me but its eyes were hollow looking and smiling creepily.

“What is with this thing?!”

“Don’t touch it, Laura! It might explode.”

People started to panic.

Glenn stood up and pulled both Taki and me with him.

Just what the heck is happening? Everyone has their own copy. Like a clone.

“Laura! Taki! Ignore those clones… The deathmatch only has one simple rule. Its rule is just to kill your opponent to win. It doesn’t matter what kind of strategy as long as they are inside this stadium.”

“The battle was taking place in the whole stadium!”

That means this clone of mine was a suicide bomber like this corpse used earlier in the fight.

“Why is this fight even allowed? This has to be illegal right?”

“I don’t have the answer to that.”

As we run together with Glenn. I turned my body around and look for my other friend.

“Yumi! Yumi! Are you still there?!”

I yelled to the crowd of people. The people panic and rushing going out. I started to accidentally bump on other people.

“What are you doing little kid?”

“Let’s hurry and get out in this place!”

The audience shouted and run.

“Laura!”

“It’s dangerous inside there. The bomber corpse is all over the stadium. This whole place might explode.”

The two players that were supposed to be fighting on the stage were fighting in the audience seats. One is running and one was chasing.

They are like cats and mice.

The flames and explosion continue.

“I can’t just leave Yumi.”

I muttered.

Taki then makes a sigh and then puts her hands on her forehead. She shook her head and took a glance at me.

“You never change, putting yourself in danger to save your friend. I know this is risky but I feel the same way. I must look for Yumi too. Because I’m her friend too.”

I smiled looking at Taki.

Before we go Glenn holds our arms to stop both of us.

“Don’t stop us! We need to go…”

“You don’t need to.”

“Why?”

I turned my body and look at Glenn. Behind Glenn Yumi was already there waving her hand.

When did she get there?

“I got hungry and decided to buy some snacks. I wanted to share it with all of you… But when I arrived back the people are all in this state of chaos already… Also, I’m flattered.”

Yumi started to feel very happy she put her hands on her cheeks.

Thank goodness… It really put relief in my heart.

I don’t want to lose someone anymore. Yumi indeed makes me feel worried at that moment.

But it’s not the time for this. We have to hurry up and go away from the stadium.

“If the first floor was exploded then the whole tower will fall.”

“There's no way that’s going to happen. This place was constructed with the planet's strongest element called white steel. Not only that it’s reinforced with magical ability. Even an explosion happened the foundation of the buildings will still be okay.”

Seems like that’s the reason such a battle was accepted to happen in this place.

“Also, that stadium was only one on ten stadiums on the first floor.”

Looking at the tower. The width of the tower is sure very wide.

I need to become more observant of my surroundings next time. This will be applied to my future ventures.

After we run out in the battle tower.

We are then all got exhausted and a seat on the edge of the fountain. 

With Icecream on our hands, we calmly eat while looking at the big monitor screen in the giant building in front of us.

“Power malfunction and gas leak… The main cause of the explosion in Stadium 3 on the first floor of the battle tower.”

The newscaster said in the news.

Gas leak things obviously happened because of the ability of the user. Why this newscaster is telling lies? I don’t understand it at all. I think it’s better to say the truth.

“The media is covering it up for the masses… The majority of the people only know magic. Magic was so basic. It was used in molding and creating elemental attributes. Such things as people being controlled and a dragon suddenly appearing was a strange thing to happen. Abilities should not be exposed to many people. Only the worthy one will have to know about it.”

Glenn muttered. He finished his ice cream and look at us.

“Then, are we worthy?”

I asked.

He became silent and continue looking at us.

“I still have trouble accepting you three honestly… I have to look for your nature first. Being a good girl doesn’t mean you qualify. I want to see you're true self. Taki is an exception because I know her for years. For Yumi and Laura. I guess I have two of you join battle until you two got ten wins.”

“That, means I’m going to battle too.”

“What about me?”

“I guess, I have the three of you join the battle event tomorrow. It’s going back to the apartment and have dinner. The night curtain is about to fall. We need to have some rest. Also, as homework I want the three of you to think about what happened earlier.”

Glenn turns his back and walked away from us.

“Where are you going?”

“I have a business to do? I leave the key on you Taki. I’ll come back tomorrow morning.”

“Are you seeing a woman?”

Taki asked.

Glenn tripped on the floor after gearing it and immediately look at Taki.

“Of course not! I have some work as a knight. Babysitting three of you makes things worst you know. I have to work to survive you know.”

That makes sense, making money is important.

Looking back on what happened earlier. I saw how dangerous ability can get. It was very deadly. I’ma  sword wielder and wind magic-user.

If I got an ability. What kind of ability I wanted to have.

Copy ability like that terrifying man earlier will be useful. No, that’s not my style.

“Yumi, Taki, what kind of ability do you want to have?”

“Ability?”

Taki look above the orange sky

“I don’t think about it yet.”

Yumi replied.

“I guess, I’ll have something that has something to do with my rare magic. Sound magic is very rare. How about you Laura?”

“Me? Maybe a sword that ignites flames that won’t be extinguished. It will kill my opponent with a single touch.”

I immediately replied.

It suddenly made the two of them stunned and shocked.

Yumi and Taki look at me with disgust and put their distance away from me.

“You look innocent but you sure are more brutal than Yumi. You planned on burning people to death with your ability.”

“Maybe Laura is like my big sister after all. My big sister never burned me before through.”

“Wait… It’s just a joke.”

Honestly, it’s not, I wanted to have some kind of powerful ability that will help my current skill set.

Maybe a flame that can’t be extinguished is harsh.

“I always hearing your big sister, but what kind of horrible piece of trash she was.”

Taki asked Yumi.

“My big sister is beautiful… Very very pretty. Her body was prim and slender. Just looking at her makes anyone blush. But under neat that was her desire to t*****e me. Every night she keeps hurting me. I don’t know why, but she said it’s because she loves me so much. I don’t understand the reason behind it. After I reach 9 years old, she suddenly disappeared leaving me alone. I was very sad and look for her. I want to look for her and make her pay for what she did.”

Taki looks trouble and licks on her Ice cream to forget the bitterness of Yumi’s story.

“I guess, I’ll be your official friend from now on. Laura and I will be your friend… You lonely freak. I’ll buy you another Ice cream just wait for me.”

Taki stood up and goes to the Ice cream vendor to buy ice cream and came back.

The story was indeed pitiful, but I can feel that’s is not Taki’s intention. Taki just wanted to make Yumi feel better by feeding her.

Yumi’s past is very sad… Just like mine…

“How about you Taki? Why did you become an adventurer at such young age?”

I asked because I’m too curious.

“Me? It’s simple… I want to be rich.”

Taki replied simply and seat back on the edge of the fountain and eat ice cream with us.

Looks like everyone had a different backstory.
