Chapter 2: The escape

1007 Words
Lunette POV “Goddess, my hands burn.” I say to my wolf as I peek of the gloves I wore to clean. I’d been cleaning for hours, and soon the Alphas will start arriving. Will it ever end? “Yes. We will find a good mate who will take us from here.” Enora says. “How are you so sure about this? Do you know who our mate is?” I ask. She paws at the ground in my head. “I dont know who. Just that good things are coming. Don’t worry so much. It stresses me out.” She says, causing me to roll my eyes. “Whatever you say, alpha.” I joke. I can’t wait to shift, to see her for the first time and feel the dirt beneath our claws. It’ll be the best time tonight. And since I plan to run away, it’ll be perfect. Easier for me to get away as a wolf. I’ll get over the gate and shift for the first time, and use her to run faster away from here. “But-“ she begins but I cut her off. “No buts. The Alpha meeting is the perfect distraction for us to get away untouched. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll be in a train far away from here by morning.” I say. She huffs in annoyance in my head but I shake my head. No way am I staying here another day. I already have everything I need to get out of here. I’ve been saving stuff for weeks now. As I walk back to what should be a room, but is only a closet.. I stretch out my cramped fingers. The Alphas should start arriving within the next hour. Time to go get ready to leave. I have no idea where I’m going but it’ll be far from here, that’s for sure. Once I’m in my little area, I look around. It’s nothing but a cot, a bucket of water that I need to change, and a pile of folded worn clothes I was given. It’s incredibly sad, but it’s mine. I found a sack to carry all the things I’ll need.. all except the clothes I have to pack. A knock on the door makes me jump. I can already feel the Alpha aura pouring through the cracks. “Omega.” Luka calls. He may not be alpha yet but any smart wolf can detect the aura. I open the door and he c***s his head. “You seem different today. What’s up with you?” He asks, a question that leaves me nearly stunned. “Nothing. I’m just tired.” I say, hoping he doesn’t sense I’ve gotten my wolf. But honestly I’m not too scared, they aren’t very sharp here. Pretty stupid if you ask me, but no one’s asking. “Well, stop being tired. Better get to the kitchens. The Alphas are arriving.” Right.. Like I haven’t done enough today. As I walk past him, I feel a hard smack on my bottom. Shocked I turn toward him only to see him eyeing me in the grossest of ways. Ignoring it so I don’t get in more trouble, I make way for the kitchens. I guess I’ll be helping to serve them their dinner. “Get started on taking out plates.” Judith says, handing me two plates. I carry them through the kitchen door to the dining room, and placing them in the middle of the table. They carry loads of food so they’re quite heavy. Once I’m done I go back for more, then start to hear voices fill the dining room. Great. I was hoping to get this done BEFORE they arrive. Just my luck. Heading out again with more plates, I notice the Alphas walking past to their guest rooms. I put a plate at the two heads of the table. One reserved for the Alpha of this pack, the next reserved for the Alpha King. I wonder what he looks like. As I’m completing this task, a faint scent of woods and something else I can’t quite put my finger on hits my nose. WOW. That’s amazing. Whatever it is.. it makes my mouth water, my skin tingle in ways I’ve never felt before. It’s delicious.. Enora stirs in my mind. “What is it?” I ask, but get no response. “Rat, let’s go.” Judith says through gritted teeth. “You’re done. Alpha doesn’t want the likes of you seen here. Go back to your little hidey hole.” Perfect, now I can continue with my escape as I planned. I bow my head once and quickly make way for my room. As I’m running down the hall I hit a hard concrete wall. I look up, seeing one of the biggest men I’ve ever seen. “Oh.. I’m sorry..” I say, trying to get past him, but never meeting his eyes.. too afraid of getting in trouble. “Why are you in such a hurry?” He asks. I shake my head and chuckle nervously. He smells familiar. “Oh.. I just.. I’m sorry, I’ve got to go.” I say, rushing past him to the hall my room is in. I make way to my room and once I’m finally there, I let out a breath. I stand against it, catching my breath and running my fingers through my hair. Now it’s time to gather my things and escape. I start packing my bag with my clothes all while keeping an ear out for anyone at my door. Once I’ve gathered my things, I look around. “This place has never been my home. I’m glad to be rid of it.” I say to Enora. Who still stays silent. I open the window and take a deep breath. I only have to jump two stories. Not too bad as a wolf. I look behind me one last time before finally pushing myself out.
