25 While Paul settled his father at the bed and breakfast, Russ asked if there was a church nearby. The only church Paul knew was the one he’d attended for Esther’s funeral. He agreed to find out the time of the service and pick up Russ in the morning. They’d have time for church before getting Russ back to the airport. Once home, Paul dragged out the heavy bag his father had brought and took it over to the seldom-used dining table. Inside the bag were piles of letters in bundles tied with string. He took the bundles out one at a time, checked for a date, and laid each bundle in order. The letters started in 1950 and went through to 1960. His father said there were plenty more.
