TRAPPED BY THE KINGS

"sorry, we're not hiring",the lady behind the counter said. Paige left the building disappointed once again,she came out and stared at the 5 star hotel and bit her lower lip with a little bit of aggression "what in the world was I thinking,I was being delusional... getting a job here?,I was kidding myself" she said as she walked away from the magnificent building disappointed. Paige sat in front of her laptop continuously checking her email for a "congratulations you got the job" but didn't get anything.She went ahead to check more websites for job opportunities but didn't get anything, the job requirements were either too high for her qualifications or too low, she graduated with a degree in Hospitality Management but could not get a good job, the only place that agreed to hire her was the old people's center and she had to just take it since she had no other choice and now she was more desperate than ever to get a well paid job. She paced around her room thinking of what to do, she couldn't get a loan from the bank since she didn't have anything expensive enough to use as collateral. "what am I gonna do?" she asked herself and finally sat down on the bed, she stared at her laptop and then heard her mom's voice from downstairs "Paige, come down, dinner's ready" "I'll be down in a minute,mom", she replied and stared at her laptop one more time and was about to close it when she heard a notification sound, she was reluctant to check at first but did it anyways, she wasn't expecting anything good tho. "What the..." she said as she stared at the email confused but also kind of excited, the mail seemed kind of suspicious and she didn't want to get her hopes up over something unsure, she didn't know if she should reply to it and accept the job offer or ignore it cos it looked more like a scam and it was too good to be true.While she was contemplating on what to do, she heard her mom's call for dinner once again "Paige we're all waiting for you, come down, don't make me come up there" "I'm coming,mom" Paige said and gave the mail one last glance before closing her laptop and headed downstairs for dinner with her family. She got downstairs and saw her mom serving everyone.She lived with her mom, grandma and little sister.She lost her dad a few years back and he left them with nothing but dept to pay for years to come.A tumor was discovered in her little sister's brain a few months after her father's death and things haven't been the same ever since,they are either trying to pay off some of their depts or trying to get medicine for her sister whilst also trying to put food on the table and take care of other things around the house with the little money they have. She looked at her beautiful family and sighed before walking to her sit at the table. **** She woke up the next day with swollen eyes, she had stared at the email all night long thinking of what to do, she decided to ask her best friend for advice the next day.She hadn't seen her best friend in six months, she had gone to Los Angeles to pursue her career in acting,it had always been her dream and she finally decided to take the bold step and left home even tho it wasn't an easy one and Paige supported her every step of the way.They met at college cos they were paired as room mates with two other girls and they both worked at the same Cafe to pay off their fees at school. Paige pulled out her phone and dialled Rose's number and a voice started from the other side "hey girlllll" rose said with excitement on her face "Rose" Paige said with a big smile on her face "what's up chica,you are gleaming this morning" rose teased "oh come on girl,stop playing with me" Paige said blushing a little "so what's up, how's your mom,sister and grandma?" rose asked "oh, they're good, we're all good, how's everything coming up in LA,any progress?",Paige asked "well there's been a little bit of progress,I met this mini actress and she introduced me to the industry, she hasn't done much work herself but she's coming up, she's played little roles in some movies as an extra and she's doing pretty good for herself, I'm going for an audition tomorrow and I hope it's my big break" rose said in a breath "oh my gosh girl, congratulations"Paige congratulated with genuineness all over her face "so have you gotten a better job or you're still working at the old people's center"Rose asked "Well I quit the old people's center cos they reduced my pay, they weren't really doing well and there wasn't enough money to pay me well but something interesting happened yesterday and that happens to be why I called you" Paige said "something interesting?,I love interesting,hit me" rose said with excitement "so I got this weird email from an unknown person,i was offered a job and according to the mail I would be getting paid fifty thousand dollars every month for three months but I'll have to move into the house and the address wasn't even on there,they only dropped a number for me to call if I'm willing to take the job" Paige said and gave a slight sigh as she stared at her friend on the other side of the phone. "And what?, did you take the job?, when are you gonna start?, have you told your mom you'll be gone for three months?" rose asked in excitement "whoa,whoa,I never said I was gonna take the job, what if it's a scam and I get kidn*pped" Paige said "kidn*pped?... girl,call the fuckin number and hear what they have to say, you need the money, fifty thousand dollars?, you'll be able to pay off your sister's surgery and have a lot remaining.... girl I can't believe you're actually thinking about this, give them a call and text me how it goes,I have to get back to what I was doing, love you chica"rose said as she blew a kiss and hung up. Paige thought back and forth about what rose said and finally decided to call the number.The man on the other end asked her to get ready before tonight cos he's coming to pick her up, she decided to ask more questions about the job but the man just told her she'll be in safe hands and she won't have to do a lot and then hung up.She laid on her bed and thought about the risk she was about to take and then got up and started packing. She was home alone that day cos her mom, grandma and sister went to her sister's school play so it was easier for her to leave.She left some money on the table for them and looked at the house one more time and just then she got a call from an unknown number that asked her to come out of her house.She sighed and stepped out and right in front of her house was a black jeep that looked like it would cost more than all the houses on their blocked joined,it was so beautiful that she couldn't help but stare at it in amusement. Just then the doors of the car opened by itself and she knew she was supposed to enter and even before she entered she could see the inside of the car and could only stare at the magnificence as she had never seen a car like that not to talk more of entering.She entered the car and just as it started moving,it hit her that she never gave the man her address.
