Jaxon’s POV
Until we meet again my Jax, love your little wolf.
The words that kept being repeated in my head. Over and over again. Until we meet again. The hope of seeing her again grows. She is determined and strong and her willingness to protect Lucas sends shivers down my spine. But it doesn’t stop me from the fear that is also eating me alive. As Lucas’s wolf is still being suppressed, she will have no one to protect her. I know he’d do his best in human form but it’s just not the same. Etta will be worrying about him, and she is the type of person who would put her life on the line to save his. My admiration for her only grows. I must keep the faith alive. A wave of purpose overcomes me as a plan starts to formulate in my head.
A plan to avenge.

Etta’s POV
The sound of footsteps is growing louder by the second and I can feel Lucas tensing up, so I turn my head to look at him. He simply nods and I can feel him relax slightly. Luckily, the stairwell is fairly dark, so they won’t be able to see us. The only thing that could let us down was if they could smell us. I’m hoping that they are too distracted that that doesn’t happen. We can now hear their conversations and laughter as well. The next part is all about timing. We need to make sure there are no guards left on the fire escape but also can’t dawdle, as they’ll notice from the empty rooms that we’re not there. The stairwell goes quiet.
I’m going to count to 30 then run down. Make sure you hold on.
Lucas nods as I count to 30. As I’m getting closer, he leans down closer and puts his arms around my neck. Not too tight that he’d hurt me but tight enough to know that he won’t fall off.
27. 28. 29. 30.
As soon as I hit 30, I dart into action. Scrambling down. I can still feel Lucas holding on as he grunts in response to me bounding down the stairs. It turns out we were on the fourth floor of the building. We make it down to the second floor before we hear shouting and footsteps getting louder. I take a quick glance backwards without stopping my descent down the stairs.
I think they’ve realised we’re missing.
I simply nod to acknowledge Lucas’s mind link. We’ve now only got one more floor to go as the sound of footsteps can be heard getting louder. I’m not sure if it’s the sudden physical activity that’s making my heart feel like it’s beating out of control or if it’s the adrenaline coursing through me. A few more steps to go before we reach the bottom.
In front of us is a door that is blocking our exit. I suddenly stop and Lucas almost comes flying off of me, but he doesn’t. It’s locked but luckily as it’s a fire escape door, it is mainly made of glass. Lucas throws the lead pipe that he had picked up earlier at the glass and it shatters immediately. At this sound, the shouting from the guards can be heard getting louder. I take a few steps back before leaping through the broken glass door. Lucas picks up the lead pipe at the same time. As I jump through, a piece of glass sticking up slicing through my underbelly and I howl out in pain and fall to the floor. Luckily, it’s not deep or life threatening so I have no choice but to get back up again. Lucas looks at me before leaping back onto my back. The guards are almost right behind so I take off and run as fast as I can. We go into the forest and weave through the trees trying to leave our scent everywhere to confuse the guards.
Etta, head south and we’ll find a river. We need to try to stop them following our scent.
I nod and sprint south. I don’t think I’ve ever run this fast before, but I know what is at stake. After what feels like hours, we reach the lake. Lucas jumps off and hops into the water, as his ankles are still shackled, it is hard for him to walk. I decide to stay in my wolf form as I don’t want to waste any energy switching between the two. I run into the water, making sure to get completely drenched, even putting my head under. Suddenly, behind us, we can hear rustling in the leaves and the sound of shouting increases. I can feel myself starting to panic.
When I give you a nod, hold your breath and go underwater. Hopefully, they’ll look around and when they don’t see us, will move on with their search.
I turn to Lucas and wait for his signal. The anticipation is beginning to get too much.
