"Hello?"
"Hey, Zac. It's me."
"Hey, are you alright?"
"Not really... I'll explain later, but right now, I need you to come find us."
"Ok, where are you exactly? Do I need to track your phone?"
"Well, I am using a throw away phone, so you can't track it. Let us walk to the nearest highway, and I'll tell which one we are on."
"Good idea. Just be careful. Walk to the nearest exit, and meet me there. When you get there, call me and tell me what exit it is. It will make it easier to find you."
"Ok. I'll call you in about an hour or sooner. If you don't hear from me then... well, I guess assume that I'm dead."
"Haha, ok then. Are you with anybody?"
"Yeah, I'm with my friend Rylee."
"Ok, just make sure that you call me back. I don't need two people to go missing in one night."
"Ok. See ya later... Hopefully."
"See ya."
I put the phone in my back pocket, and started to walk.
"So, who's this Zac guy?" Rylee asked. I could tell she was going somewhere with this.
"Just a friend that I met at the gym." I looked at her and rolled my eyes. She was already smirking at me.
"Just a friend? What happened to your gym?"
"Some of the equipment is broken and worn, so I went to the local gym. That's where I just so happened to meet Zac. There is nothing going on between us, and no I don't like him."
"Ok." Wait... she dropped the subject too quick.... she's up to something.
"By the way, I almost died in a car accident." I casually said, hoping she wouldn't hear how serious it was.
"I'm sure. You always were a scary driver. You're ok, though, right?" Wow. I was expecting more of a reaction. Maybe she's still recovering from her k********g.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Zac kept me company while I was in the hospital."
"Zac kept you company?" Her eyes widened. Uh oh. I shouldn't have said that.
I sighed. Here it goes. "I knew it! You like him. He likes you! You guys are going to be married, and you'll have the most beautiful children!!!!" She started to jump up and down, but groaned in pain and slumped herself over me again.
"Don't even start. We aren't even that close. I don't like him, and he--" he does like me.... Dang it.
"He....." she pushed.
"He likes me, but that doesn't mean anything will happen between us. We won't get married, and we won't have any children." I said as I stepped over a large rock.
"You aren't looking me in the eyes." She said as she looked at me.
"Because I am trying to watch where we are going."
"You like him don't you."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"Oh my god! Fine, yes. I like him a little. He's not a bad looking guy, and he has a nice personality. He has a good character, and he's not a bad guy." I gave up. She was going to keep pushing anyway.
She stayed silent for a minute. "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS! I knew it! You two love each other! My dreams are coming true. Even though I have never met thins guy, he's going to be a great husband!" I could practically feel her joy radiating off of her.
I sighed. I am not commenting anymore. I give up. She's just going to keep pushing it anyways.
We walked for another 20 minutes before we found a road. Every now and then a car would pass us, and honked. By the time we got to the nearest exit, I was exhausted. We've probably been walking for about 45 minutes.
I pulled out my phone, and called Zac.
"I was starting to think you wouldn't call." He answered.
"Yeah well, it took me a while to find the nearest exit." I said as I looked over at Rylee, only to find her smirking at me.
"What exit are you at?"
"Exit 98, on highway 20."
"Alright, I'll be there in a few."
I hung up the phone, and sat down on the pavement.
"You didn't tell him anything!" Rylee exclaimed, sitting next to me.
"No, because this is not the time or place to be talking about our relationship issues. I don't necessarily think that he's going to like what I'm going to say anyways." I replied, giving her a glare.
"What are you going to say?"
"I was just going to tell him that I might have some feelings for him, but that we can't be any more than we already are. Just in case.... In case if something happens in the ring, I don't want him to get too close to me." I actually can't tell her the real reason. After I left the hospital, the doctors found out that I have a minor form of BPD.
For those of you who don't know what BPD is, it stands for Borderline Personality Disorder. I don't have it to a great extent, but I have some of its symptoms. People with BPD often tend to avoid things that have anything to do with happiness or joy because they are afraid that it will be gone or will leave them, thus, leaving them heart broken or in a worse state than they already are. Me personally, I tend to do this often. Which is why I can't be in a relationship with Zac, or anybody else. People with BPD often lash out at random times too, which is why I don't want Zac to be in the middle of something he'll regret later. I also tend to act on impulse sometimes, which is another reason why I like fighting so much. It teaches you to think before you act. People with BPD also tend to be hostile towards other people they may not like, or they just hate in general. Which I also do. They also tend to have suicidal thoughts, which I have frequently.
I didn't want to tell Rylee because I don't want her to change the way she sees me. She looks up to me so much, almost as much as I look up to her. I don't want to change that for her. I hate it when I disappoint her, you can see it in her eyes. She tends to shut down until she can forgive me. She won't speak to me for weeks on end, and it really drives me crazy.
The doctors told me to reduce my fighting habits and see a therapist, but fighting is my therapy. Fighting helps me control my anger, ironically. It helps me breath and think. Fighting is the only time when I can focus on something besides my depressing life.
We waited for about an hour before Zac finally arrived.
"Finally." Rylee exclaimed as she opened the passenger door. I guess I have to take the back seat.
"What happened to your personal phone?" Zac asked turning back to face me.
"Um, that's kind of a long story. See, my greedy cousin, William, wanted some of the money that my grandmother left me, and he took my phone away from me. So now I need to go to the Verizon store, cancel that phone, and get me a new one. Which I don't have the money for." I looked down as I said the last part. These past few weeks have been rough. I have always tried to stay away from the money that my grandmother left me because I use that money for hospital bills. Being a fighter, you kinda need something saved and put off to the side for hospital trips.
"Oh. Well, that sucks. Tell me how this happened later. Right now, both of you need to relax a little, and get some rest. It's a long drive home." Zac said as he handed both of us blankets.
It would've been better if he had food, but at least the blanket is made of fleece.
.........
I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder. Had I not been so exhausted, my instincts would've kicked in, and I would've beat the crap out of whoever is touching me.
"Rose? Rose, wake up. I brought you to my place since I can't remember where you live." Zac. That twerp was shaking my shoulder.
I groaned and sat up. "What time is it?" I asked rubbing my eyes, trying to get up out of the car.
"It's pretty early in the morning. Let's get you inside." He picked me up, and I let him. He carried me through the door, and brought me to the guest bedroom.
"Where's Rylee?" I asked as he gently put me on the bed.
"I already dropped her off. She drank some energy drinks she found in my glove box, so she'll be up for a couple more hours." He explained with a chuckle.
I let out a little laugh. That sounds like Rylee. If she feels tired, but she doesn't want to sleep, she'll find anything she can to stay awake.
"Zac, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah, sure." He sat on the bed next to me.
"Where are we? Like, where do we stand relationship wise? I am so confused. After what happened with the car accident and all, I just can't think straight anymore." It felt awkward asking this, but I had to know. Had I not been so sleep deprived, I probably wouldn't have been so straight forward. Stupid sleep.
There was a long pause before he answered. "That really depends on you. You already know that I like you, and I'm not going anywhere. I'm just waiting for you to say the word, and I'll be yours forever. But, I respect your decisions, and I respect your space. I can wait a lifetime for you, and I would still wait. You are an amazing person, Rose. So it's up to you. You decide where we stand." He said as he grabbed my hand and gave it a light squeeze. He was so nice. I don't know anybody who would wait around for me.
I only nodded my head as I felt my eyelids getting heavier.
"We'll talk about this more in the morning. Goodnight, Rose." He said as he stood up and walked towards the door. I could hear a little bit of hope in his voice. He turned around, and shut the door.
"Goodnight, Zac." I whispered.
