-Anya's POV-
I was brought back to reality when the pain of my past became unbearable, as though I was suffocating on the recollection of those memories. How had he found me after all these years? Why now? I couldn’t wrap my brain around the fact that he had been looking for me, and I couldn’t comprehend how Alex fit into all of this. But the one thing I knew was that I couldn’t stay here. I couldn’t live through this hell again. I’d rather die than be violated day after day by the hands of Damien. I was about to scream for Alex to come back when I heard people walking past my cell.
“Did you hear the Alpha killed all those prisoners?” I c****d my head to the side, not understanding what was being asked until I heard another voice. “He’s been looking for his runaway Luna for years now; it’s not a shock that he would kill those who wouldn’t give him the answers he was looking for. I’d be hysterical if I lost my mate; can you blame him for acting this way?” Their footsteps died down as they got further away from my cell.
What were they talking about? What in the world were an Alpha and a Luna? Not to mention what a mate was. Those titles sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place where I would know them from. Questions flooded my mind when I heard my cell door unlock, causing me to shrink against the wall, hoping not to be seen. The door closed, and a candle illuminated the darkness, revealing Alex.
“What the f**k do you want, Alex?” I snarled at him, almost shocked at the ferocity coming from my voice.
All I saw was a blur when I was slammed into the wall of my cell, and I couldn’t contain the scream that left my lips. “Watch your language, Anya. You will speak to me with respect.” I remained silent, refusing to answer him.
His hand snaked around my neck, and I felt his fingers wrap around my throat. He was waiting for an answer, but I wasn’t going to give him one. I felt his hand begin to apply steady pressure and the panic started to build within me. “Yes, Alex.”
His grip continued to tighten. “Yes, Alex, what?” He whispered into my ear.
With how tight his grip was becoming; I wouldn’t be able to speak in the next minute or so. “Y-Yes, Alex. I-I’ll treat y-you with re-respect.” I barely managed to gasp out.
Alex’s hold on my throat finally relaxed, and the air crashed back into my lungs, causing me to gasp loudly. Alex pressed his body into me again and groaned into my ear. “Your gasp of surprise excites me, Anya. I wonder what other sounds will come from those pretty lips of yours.”
I started to tremble against him, scared of what he was implying. When he spoke again, it was quiet and menacing. “Perhaps, I can make you whimper, or better yet, maybe I can get you to moan for me.” His index finger pushed up against the underside of my chin, forcing me to look up, which exposed my neck. “Or just maybe,” he paused, and I felt his tongue glide along my throat, “I can get you to scream for me. Hmm?”
My trembling was getting so bad that I could barely stand. I felt my knees start to give out when Alex lifted me into the air and pushed me into the wall once more with his body weight. “Alex, please, don’t do this,” I whispered, trying to keep myself from breaking.
He looked into my eyes, and I felt a sense of possessiveness coming from him that I had never felt. “You will belong to me, Anya. Your mind, spirit, and body, will belong to me entirely.”
His answer scared me, and I still had no clue what this place was. I needed answers. “Alex?”
A smile crossed his lips, and he nuzzled into my neck. “Yes, Anya?” His grip on my thighs tightened and sent a chill down my spine, which he misunderstood, thinking his actions were exciting me.
I bit my lip. “You act like it’s been an eternity since you’ve seen me.”
He looked up at me. “You were out for over a week, Anya. We couldn’t figure out why, but you just didn’t want to wake up.”
I gasped. I had been knocked out for that long!? “Why did you pull me into that alleyway?” I whispered, unable to look at him. “You really scared me; you know.”
Hurt flickered through his eyes, and it looked genuine. “I was so frustrated that you ran away from me. You refused to talk to me, even acknowledge me. I couldn’t hold back my anger, and I took it out on you.”
“It was like a switch flipped in you. One moment you were acting as if you truly cared about me, then the next, you were acting like a monster. Like him...” I couldn’t finish what I wanted to say and bit my lip.
Before he could say anything, I asked my next question. “Alex, you helped Damien find me, didn’t you? You’re the reason I’m in hell again.”
“I didn’t help him find you, Anya. I didn’t even know you were his Luna until he decided to visit the bar that day. Coincidentally, he had been dealing with a lot of pack business over the last few months and hadn’t been in a while, and you recently started working there.”
I still didn’t understand half of what he was saying, but at least he was answering my questions. “I still don’t understand how someone like you can be associated with a disgusting man like him,” I mumbled under my breath.
Alex’s eyes narrowed, and his tone changed. “Watch what you say about him, Anya. He’s done a lot for this pack, and I won’t let a human try to tarnish his reputation, regardless of how my personal feelings towards you are.”
I c****d my head to the side. Pack? “What are you involved in? Some kind of gang or something?”
His eyes widened then narrowed once more. “Anya, don’t play dumb. You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
My anger was starting to rise again, simmering just before exploding. “I’m not playing anything, Alexander. I don’t have any clue of what the hell you’re talking about!” I paused for a moment. “What has Damien told you about me?” I questioned him.
Alex rolled his eyes, unamused of the question I asked him. “This act is getting old, Anya. Everyone knows how you and Alpha Damien met, realized you were mates, and after completing the mating process, you attempted to kill him. I never understood why you two didn’t mark each other during the mating process, but who am I to question someone’s s****l preferences. After your attempted treason, you ran away from your Luna duties, your pack, and your Alpha. You’re lucky Alpha Damien has granted you to live before your trial.”
When he finally finished speaking, I couldn’t believe the words I was hearing. This was some kind of sick joke, right? How could anyone think that would be true? Damien can easily overpower me; he’s shown that already! Wait a second, did he say that I mated with him? As in, having s*x with him? Willingly?
Tears started to form in my eyes. “Alexander,” I whispered. “You can’t be serious… None of that is true….”
His right eyebrow raised as the expression on his face questioned my claims. “You expect me to believe you over Alpha Damien?”
Why was I being made out as the bad guy here? I’ve done nothing wrong! My pent-up frustration was rising to the surface as Alex’s words rang in my ears. “Do you even know what he’s done to me! You wouldn’t be saying anything like this if you did!” I screamed at him, unable to hold back my emotions.
His eyes widened at my sudden outburst. “What do you mean, what he’s done to you? You’re the only one contributing to Alpha Damien’s pain and hardship.”
Damien’s pain? DAMIENS PAIN? I couldn’t take it any longer. “YOU HAVE NO IDEA, SHUT THE f**k UP!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. All the frustration, hurt, pain, and anger finally coming to the surface.
He stumbled backward from the level of my outburst, and I fell on my ass, wincing at the sudden pain. “Watch who you’re talking to, Anya. Just because I feel some type of way about you does not mean I won’t put you in your place when speaking badly of Alpha
Damien.” He threatened as he glared down at me.
I returned the glare, trying to understand how anyone could believe these accusations against me. “Do you even know anything about me? Other than the fact that I worked with you at the bar.” I questioned him, trying to figure out if he knew anything at all.
He shook his head, and I let out a long sigh. “I was forced into the slave trade when I was six because my parents didn’t want me.
Damien and his men bought me at an auction where I was forced to be their maid, and at the age of sixteen, he assaulted me almost every single day until I was rescued at eighteen years old.” I explained while tears fell down my face, and I looked at the ground, unable to look at him.
Silence echoed through the room until he finally spoke. “Anya... That’s not funny. You honestly can’t be serious.” He said while looking at me, uncertainty in his eyes.
Did he just insinuate that I was lying? To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. “How could you think I would lie about something like that?”
He stood up and started to walk away when he paused, facing away from me. “Alpha Damien saved me when I was twelve, and he would never do something that monstrous, not to mention, I’ve never seen you before you started working at the bar.” He opened the cell door and slammed it shut without another word.
Something clicked in my head that gave way to more questions than I had answers. He was right about one thing; how did I never meet him or anyone else when I was trapped here for all those years. The mansion I was kept at seemed like a mob house, but to my credit, I hardly ever saw anyone there. I lived on the maid’s floor, which included the laundry and kitchen space. The only people I ever met and worked with were Damien, his personal henchmen, and the other maids.
The other maids were permitted to walk about the mansion and the grounds, but I was always kept in the dark for some reason. As though Damien never wanted anyone to see me or know of my existence. Something strange was going on here, and I didn’t have the slightest idea of what it might be.
As I sat on the floor of my cell, I started thinking about how all this happened. I must have been naïve to believe Alex’s façade about not knowing Damien. His maniacal laughter filled my mind, and I couldn’t help but tremble when remembering the threats he made towards me. I honestly thought Alex was a good person and even started to feel a little bit attracted to him, which is saying something since I haven’t felt that way about anyone.
Another thing that confused me was when Alex continued to talk about this pack, an Alpha, Luna, and mates. I gasped as I remembered why those tittles sounded familiar. I remembered reading about those things in my supernatural novels, but they were fiction! None of this could be true. Before I could think more about it, I heard screaming coming from another cell. What the hell was this place?!
I decided that I needed to get answers, and since I was already f****d by being here, what did I have to lose?
“DAMIEN!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. The screaming I heard earlier immediately stopped, and after a few moments, I
decided to try again. As I was about to scream again, I heard my cell door unlock, and the monster himself walked in.
“Hello, Titanya.” He said while lighting a candle which provided the smallest amount of light.
“Damien,” I said with confidence, which made him groan.
“Yes, my little beauty.” He practically purred, looking down at me.
“I have questions, and you’re going to answer them.” I’m not going to let this man take advantage of me so easily, not anymore. It’s finally time that I took back my life from this man and made him see things my way.
“Take these chains off, Damien.” He looked at me with uncertainty. “It’s not like I can run away from you; you’ve already proven that” I said, laying it on thick which I knew would please him.
The smirk that formed on his face told me I was right. He walked over to me and took the chains off my wrists and ankles, causing me to sigh in relief. I looked up at Damien, and without a second thought, I smacked him across the face. It didn’t cause much damage, but I got my point across when he looked at me, a nasty smirk on his face.
He pushed me against the wall, which still caused me to cringe, no matter how tough I tried to be. “That’s what I thought; you don’t intimidate me, Titanya.”
I recovered my composure and looked at him directly in the eyes, which was forbidden, but I didn’t care. “What is this place? Why do people keep using words I don’t understand?”
Shocked flickered across his face, but he recovered quickly. “What are you talking about, Titanya.”
I sighed in frustration. “I keep hearing people refer to you as the Alpha, me as a runaway Luna, and us being mates?” My words finally caught his attention, and he pushed himself into me, causing me to flinch again.
“It’s none of your f*****g concern, and you will do your best to remember your place. You’re mine, and I’ll use you for my satisfaction. That’s why you’re alive. Remember that.” He grabbed my throat, squeezing hard to show his dominance over me.
I wanted to be strong and act like this action didn’t bother me, but in reality, it terrified me because I knew what happened next.
He pushed my skirt up, trying to gain access that I wasn’t ready for him to have. I scratched his face with every ounce of strength I had, and he dropped me to the floor, holding his face as he roared in pain.
I was holding my throat as he came at me, pinning me to the ground as his hand clasped around my throat once more. I knew he wouldn’t try to kill me since I was finally back in his grasp, but he was savage enough to continue squeezing as I gasped for air. I tried to yell and scream, but it was no use as my vision’s edges started to go black, and everything became fuzzy.
The last thing I heard was Damien’s voice. “Welcome home, Titanya.”
