LILAC
ENID Dark clouds, chilly weather with cool winds all of this fascinates me. I peeked out of the huge glass window beside the counter where I was sitting and the corners of my mouth curved up instantly when I saw the small leaves of the tree across our shop trembling as water droplets fall over them. It was drizzling outside, suddenly I had a strong urge to stick my hand out and feel the cool droplets fall over my palm but I decided against it as I was still working. I got up from the stool and aligned it under the counter where others stools were kept and switched my phone on. “Only 15 minutes left for the shift to end”. I repeated it in my mind to motivate myself. I never thought that working as a part time in a coffee shop could be so tiring but I couldn’t lose the job it was paying me well and my boss, Mrs. Spencer was treating me well too. I turned around and sighed when I saw two huge white coffee mugs near the sink waiting for me to clean. I took a deep breath and wore my apron whilst walking towards the sink  and tied the knots of the apron. As soon as I grabbed the mug, the bells on the front door jingled indicating the presence of a customer. I let out an annoyed grunt as I’ll be more late. ‘ nothing is in my favor today.’ I said in an undertone and kept the mug back in the sink, after washing my hands I dried them with the apron I was wearing and walked towards the main counter where we take orders. As I reached the counter I saw a man double my height with a muscular physique. He wore a black tight fitted button up shirt showing off his firm muscles with a black ripped jeans, he was wearing a black bucket hat perhaps I couldn’t see his face properly but he surely had a sharp jawline. ‘He must really like black’ I thought everything he was wearing was black. I shifted my gaze towards the wooden clock hung near the entrance as the man was going through the menu. It was 10:00 PM already and it was the exact time for my shift to end. It will take an hour and a half for me to go home now I thought, considering I have to wash those mugs, align the furniture and the customer oh the customer I quickly looked at him and sighed he was still deciding his order. I waited for another five minutes for him to decide, getting irked of his indecisiveness to order from a single page menu I put on a smile and said, “ Sir I would recommend you hot chocolate with cheesecake it’s our specialty.” He did not reply, after a few minutes of awkward silence he said “OK”. His voice was husky and strong contemplating his powerful and dominating aura. I smiled and said, “your order will be ready in 20 minutes”. He turned around and sat on a chair near the window. ‘Rude’ I thought, but it did not matter now, in three years of working in this café I had come across different types of customers and based on my past encounters with the actual rude customers he was not that bad. I was almost ready with the order. I just had to heat the chocolate milk and garnish the cheesecake. Everyone likes hot chocolate right? But what if he finds out? After reassuring myself thrice that the guy will not find that I lied to him about hot chocolate and cheesecake being our cafes specialty, I aligned the cheesecake and hot chocolate nicely on a purple tray with tissues. When I reached the counter, I saw that the guy was checking his watch. I cleared my throat to make my presence known ‘I am sure he heard me’. After waiting for a few more minutes I walked to him myself and pointed at the red rectangular board hung near the counter and said, “self service”  emphasizing every syllable. He looked at my pointing finger and then the red boat hung and simply nodded his head. I sighed and thought, at least he could have apologized. After leaving the purple colored tray on the table I left and sat behind the counter, looking outside whilst smiling as it was still drizzling. The weather outside was perfect, I could feel the cool wind on my cheeks by just looking outside. I would certainly walk home today and deliberately walk through the puddles. While I was planning my way back to home I completely forgot about the man. I sighed and turned to look if he was done. As soon as I turned I gasped, he was standing right in front of me. I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples. ‘why am I so embarrassing’. Sir do you want something?” ‘What does he even want now he’s already paid.’ He removed the bucket hat and shook his head in order to settle his honey brown hair. After settling his hair he looked up and it took me a few seconds to take in his appearance. He was gorgeous, it would be perfect if he could work on his attitude though. His eyes were the most beautiful. It was my first time to witness the amethyst eye color myself. I took a deep breath and cleared my throat, while fidgeting with my fingers. I looked up after a few seconds only to find that the guy was smirking. He said in a low voice, “tissues”. I nodded my head and turned around to find tissues. I found a new packet of tissues near the oven. I took out a few, straightened them and walked towards the counter. The guy was looking outside. I cleared my throat and he immediately turned his head to look at me. I handed him the tissues expecting him to thank me but he simply turned around and started walking towards the door. ‘No one is perfect’. I scoffed while thinking.  “You lie perfectly” I pursed my lips together and closed my eyes. ‘s**t he knew’ I turned incredibly slow as if it would matter but he was standing near the door with a sly smirk on his handsome face and amusement in his amethyst eyes. Before I could speak to apologize. He turned around and pushed the glass door to exit. I sighed wanting him to leave as soon as possible. But before he left he said those four words that changed my life completely, “let’s meet again Enid”.
