Chapter 1: Enemies Cross Paths
*Genesis' POV*
I was in a deep sleep and was nowhere near ready to wake up. I was having a really good dream, and just as it was getting to the good part, BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Well, that was a mood killer. I slowly got up, stretching while reaching to dismiss my alarm, getting up and heading to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and jumped. 'That's some serious bed head.' I sigh as I go to try to brush my hair out and get ready for school. Once I was done, I went down stairs to the kitchen where I was greeted by my mother and 2 younger brothers, and I sat down between my brothers as my mother handed me a plate of pancakes. "Good morning, honey! Are you excited about your final year of high school?" my mother asks. "Yes," I reply, "Mostly because I'm almost finished with school, and I can pursue my dreams." I've always wanted to be a musician, I play the violin in my free time, and that's where my passion lies. "Oh sweetie, I'm so proud of you!" My mother said as she gave me a big hug. I chuckled and hugged my mom back smiling "Thanks mom, I gotta eat, or I'll be late." I let go of my mother and started eating my pancakes. Once I finished, I picked up my school bag and checked if everything was there as I heard my friends pull up. I put my backpack on, gave a kiss on the cheek to my mother and my brothers before waving bye to them, and headed out to meet my friends at the front of my house.
As I meet up with my friends, they wave at me, and I wave back. "Hurry up b***h, we're gonna be late!" Grace said playfully. "I'm coming, I'm coming! Relax!" I said with a chuckle and hopped into my friends car and drove off to school. On the road, Grace was shaking with excitement. "I'm so happy to be going back! So many cute boys to talk to!" Grace said cheerfully and then she gasps "Do you think I'll get a boyfriend this year?!" She asked me, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me a bit. "I don't know a boy who 'wouldn't' want you, you're smart, kind, and beautiful" I said with a smile. "Careful Gen, cause then I might start thinking you have a crush on me" Grace said teasingly as I laughed. "Bestie, I love you, but not like that" I said as I pat Grace on the shoulder, Grace jokingly pouting, "That hurts my feelings" said Grace playfully as we all broke out into laughter. "If y'all get married, don't forget to make me the Maid of Honor!" Said Amara who was driving, we broke into laughter again. Shortly after that, we started jamming out to music to past time for the drive, we all lived 30 minutes away from school, which isn't a long time, but for us it was, so we tried to speed up time for ourselves, and this was how we bonded as best friends, we've been friends since 1st grade, so we've all been close for along time, I look at Amara and Grace thinking back to how we met and became friends, and I smiled at the thought, if anybody understood me the most, it was these 2 crazy girls.
We finally got to school, Amara parked the car, and we got ready to hop out. We all grabbed our bags, making sure we got everything, and exited the car heading towards the school. Some students were excited to start school, others were more happy to get it over with, and others just really didn't want to be there. We all headed inside and headed to our lockers to put our things away, when I noticed a boy. His name was Jaden, he's known for being good looking, popular, and not wanting a girlfriend, but she wonders why that's the case. He's also known for slacking off school and getting in trouble with teachers, so it's a wonder why girls wanted him so badly, but I paid no mind to it and headed to my first class after putting my things away.
*Jaden's POV*
I was hanging around my locker as I noticed Genesis leaving to head to her first class. She's more of a goodie in school, gets to school on time, perfect attendance, gets mostly straight A's, but I've always wondered why, I just don't see the point in any of it. As I was in my own thoughts, my group approached me, which consisted of Caleb, my best friend, Rachel, the girl Caleb is hooking up with, but also is unhealthily obsessed with me, Quinn, my cousin, and Gavin and Gabe, the twin brothers that are more Quinn's friends then they are mine. Rachel approaches me twirling her hair around her finger. "Heeey Jaden" said Rachel trying to be seductive. I rolled my eyes at her attempt to be seductive, I really have no clue why Caleb hooks up with this chick, but I refuse to question him about it. "Hi Rachel," I said, sounding bored. "Soooo… are you doing anything later?" Rachel asks, biting her lower lip. "I do actually, but I'll let you know if that changes" I said as I got ready to walk away as Caleb, Gavin, Gabe, and Quinn followed behind me as Rachel yelled back "Alright! Call me!" Caleb looked at me with a smirk "You gonna get that Jaden?" He asked teasingly. "I probably will," Gavin added. "Why would I get with a girl who's hooking up with my best friend?" I asked, looking at Caleb. "It's nothing serious, so I don't mind," Caleb replied to me. I feel weird that that's his answer to me, it's just awkward dating someone who's hooking up with my best friend, and even if I wanted to date this girl, why would I if she intends to continue hooking up with him? "Yeah… no…" I said, excusing myself from the group and heading to class.
I walked into the classroom, and the only seat that was available was next to Genesis. "Thank you for finally joining us, Mr Collins,'' said Mr. Shepherd with some annoyance. "Take a seat next to Genesis, please." I sighed, reluctantly sitting next to Genesis. Mr. Shepherd sighed and stood up, getting ready to speak. "Hello Class, welcome to US History. I hope you all had a good summer break, and you're excited to be seniors! Before we start this class, I want us all to get to know each other better this year! So, your first assignment is to ask your neighbor more about themselves." Genesis looked over and saw me as her neighbor, she sighs and turned to me to ask him questions about myself, and I reluctantly answered. I'm not thrilled with her asking me questions, but whatever, I guess I'll just go with it. After everyone asks questions about each other, Mr. Shepherd claps his hands. "Excellent! I hope this helps everyone get closer to each other! Let's start the class!" This is gonna be an annoying day.
*Third Party POV*
Genesis was taking notes, but Jaden just didn't care. In fact, it seemed like he was dozing off, ignoring everything Mr. Shepherd was saying. The class was coming to an end as the bell rang "Alright class, that was the end of today's lesson, I'll be giving you homework at the end of the school day" Mr Shepard said as everyone was fixing to leave clase.
Genesis packed up her things as she looked over at Jaden, who was still sitting at his desk, and she approached him. "Aren't you going to be heading to lunch soon?" She asks. "Yeah, I'm just not in a rush," Jaden answered. Genesis sighs. "Why would you stay in the classroom, though?" Jaden stood up and looked at Genesis, "And why the hell do you care?" He snapped as Genesis looked at him."Geez, it was just a question: Why are you so grumpy? Did someone piss in your cornflakes this morning?" She asked him. "I'm grumpy because I'm here. Stop being so nosy." Jaden said. "I'll remember that Mr Collins." Mr Shepherd said, not thrilled to hear that. Jaden scoffed loudly and rushed out of the classroom as Genesis sighed, looking at Mr Shepherd. "How do I help that boy?" He asked. Genesis shrugged. "Maybe he needs someone around him that can help.'' She said as she left the classroom for lunch.
Genesis entered the cafeteria and saw her group as she went to sit with them. Groups were divided between students, the popular, the well known, the geeks, the loners, etc. Genesis fell onto the well-known category along with her friends. She sat with them as she noticed a familiar face. "Mason?" She asked the boy. Mason is her older brother who lives with their father, only one year older than her. They were kids when their parents divorced, so they stopped spending time together after that, so seeing him after all this time was a shock. "Hey, little sis, did you miss me?" Mason asked with a smile. "Of course I did!" She said as she stood up to go give Mason a hug. She sat back down after their little reunion and proceeded to catch up on things. That's when Grace slipped in. "Gen, you didn't tell me your older brother was cute." She whispered to Genesis. "Ew, no way!" Genesis whispered back to her with a disgusted face as her and Grace chuckled.
Jaden was sitting with his friends, Caleb, Gavin, Gabe, and his cousin Quinn. He was also sitting with Rachel and her friends, Sophia, and Claire. Rachel was sitting in Caleb's lap, while Quinn was hardcore flirting with Sophia. Jaden is just sitting there eating his food when Caleb nudges him. "Hey, you thinking of getting a girlfriend?" Caleb asks teasingly. "No," Jaden said immediately, "Girls are not a priority for me." Caleb sighs."Come on, man, they're tons of girls that want to date you, " Caleb said to Jaden. "Do I care? Not really," Jaden said coldly. "That's your loss, man," Caleb said as he wrapped his arms around Rachel as she giggled, Jaden looked at them almost disgusted. He didn't see the point in relationships, he didn't get the hype of dating, nor did he have any interest finding out the hype, he was better off alone, at least that's what they thought. He sighs as he tries to eat lunch in peace. Genesis glanced at Jaden and rolled her eyes. Amara nudged Genesis in the arm. "Why're you looking at him?" said Amara with a smirk as Genesis scoffs. "Don't get any bright ideas, Jaden's an asshole," Genesis replied, rolling her eyes.
*15 minutes later*
*Genesis' POV*
I finally finished my food, so I was just hanging out with Grace, Amara, and Mason. It's always energetic with these 3 around, but I don't mind. Suddenly, someone handsome walks to our table. It's my crush, Blake. I can feel my cheeks getting warmer. "H-hey.." I said almost shyly. He chuckles. "Hey Genesis," he said. His voice is so deep, so manly, anytime I hear him speak, I start to melt, and my heart begins to race. "What are you doing after school?" he asks me. I'm taken aback by his sudden question, I didn't expect this at all. "O-oh, nothing!" I responded. Did I sound too happy? Or did I sound too desperate? I really hope I didn't put him off. He gave me a gentle smile. "Would you like to go out to dinner with me?" Blake asked me. Is this really happening?! Did THE, Blake Reed really ask me out?! My heart is overjoyed over the idea of us on a date. "Of course!!!" I said, jumping up, then realizing how crazy I look to others as I slowly sit down. "I-I mean..." I had to take a deep breath. "I'd love to," I said more calmly. he gave me another smile. "Cool, there is a new restraunt downtown, we can meet there."
I can't believe he wants to take ME out! This is the best day ever! "That works for me," I say, sounding excited. "Nice, I'll see you there." Blake said as he walked away. Once he was far away, all of us girls started to squeal in excitement. Mason got annoyed with us very quickly. "Oh god, will you please stop before you make my ears bleed?" He said irritated. We stopped squealing but giggled under our breaths instead.
*Jaden's POV*
And the girls are at it with the squealing. What are they so happy about? Just because a boy talked to them? It's ridiculous. Caleb looks in my direction. "Dude, are you ok?" Caleb asked me. "Yeah, just these girls squealing gives me a massive headache," I answered. He sighs. "Wanna get out of the cafeteria then?" Caleb offers. "Yeah, let's take a walk," I said as we both stood up. "Can I come?" Rachel asked. She sounds so desperate. It's not even funny. "No, you can't," I said coldly as Caleb and I left. Eventually, he stops me in the doorway of the cafeteria. "Dude, that was kinda harsh," He said to me, taken aback. "Maybe, but I don't want her following me like a lost puppy," I said as I began heading outside of the school, with him following behind me. We decided to take a walk around the school for a moment, it's very sunny, so it's refreshing.
I can finally take a breather from those annoying squealing girls, peace and quiet at last. Caleb turns to me. "So bro, tell me, if you're not interested in Rachel, who are you into?" Really? Of all the questions, he asks me that? I sigh and look at him. "I'm not looking for anyone right now," I answered, kind of annoyed. "Come on, you gotta be interested in SOMEBODY. You can't remain single forever," Claeb replies. Is he trying to annoy me now? "Well, I'm not interested, so shut up about it," I say. I'm starting to regret letting him come with me, but he sighs and finally keeps quiet. Why would I be with anyone after what my father has done to my mother, my siblings, and myself? Relationships will only hurt you in the long run, I'd rather not deal with it, so yes, I can stay single, and I will stay single, I have no interest in having a relationship. I don't know why Caleb is so pressed about me getting into a relationship, but I refuse to entertain him. as we're hanging out, the bell rings, I guess it's time to go back to hell then. I sigh as Caleb and I head back inside, I see Genesis heading to math class. Hopefully, this is the last time I have to run into her.
