ERIK   The paramedics tend to my father's cut while my mother continuously argues with them, insisting that she doesn't need anything. She is so mad because she thinks they are wasting their time on her instead of attending to her husband's needs or mine. My mother insists that she doesn't need to go to the hospital, and the paramedics look to me for help. "Mom," I try saying gently because she is already agitated, "you were in shock.
