Aria Is My Roommate

“Yes, hi roomie,” I said, beaming with a smile. Aria dropped the broom in her hand and jumped on my neck.
“Oh my goodness! This is the best moment of my life, I really can't believe this,” she said with a face red from excitement. She wanted to drag my hand along but I quickly stopped her, “my bag is outside.”
Her face lit up and she ran back to get my bag for me before leading me back to the room. The bed in the room was a pink colored king sized bed and beside it was a table, chair and shelf.
I took my time to admire how beautiful and spacious the room was, I strolled to the window and the scenery outside is what I call perfect greenery. I gasped, totally mesmerized by what I saw.
“This room has a really great view, did you select the room by yourself?” I asked, curiosity boldly written on my face.
Aria smiled and calmly answered, “No, I didn't. My brother actually selected the room for me.”
My mouth formed a round shape then I exaggeratingly used my two hands to cover my mouth, “Your brother must really cherish you. I am so jealous of you,” her face formed a light pink color, she smiled and tucked her long hair behind her ear.
“You can say that.”
I finally took my seat on the single chair while Aria stood up to arrange the stuff in my suitcase into the wardrobe.
“You can tell me your story while I arrange your stuff for you,” she proposed and I agreed with reluctance, then she picked up her phone and ordered us food.
I started narrating my story while she arranged my load as promised. I said everything that has happened in my life, deliberately leaving out the surrogacy part. I didn't also tell her about Sage because I wasn't so sure.
Maybe as time goes on, I will have the courage to tell her the part that I skipped. She spent almost an hour arranging everything as immediately she finished, the door bell rang.
“It should be the food delivery, I will go and get that,” she said and stood up.
I relaxed my back on the seat but my ribs are paining me for sitting in that position for so long. I finally changed location and took a seat on the bed, I rested my back on the bed frame for more comfort.
Aria returned seconds later with a paper bag, excitement shone on her face as she placed it in between us.
“I ordered so much for us. I will be leaving very soon for my ward round but before then, let's enjoy this meal,” she rushed into the kitchen and brought out plates for us. We dug into the food and ate till our fill.
“Oh my God, my stomach might burst at this point,” Aria said, holding tightly to her stomach. I belched loudly and waved at her.
“Same here, I think I am food drunk.”
We both laughed at the little joke and at that point, I felt nothing but pure bliss. I gotta admit that I haveynt felt this free and youthful in a while.
“I am almost let, I need to get dressed,” Aria said and rushed up in a hurry, she swiped the cotton beside the wardrobe to the side and to my surprise, there was a closet behind it.
“f**k it! You are f*****g rich, why are you even working? If I was just half as rich as you, I wouldn't be bothered about making money,” I teased. A yawn escaped my mouth afterwards.
“You think every doctor works for money?” Her tone suddenly got serious and at that point, I knew I touched a point in her chest.
“I work because I love saving lives,” she said with finality. I swallowed hard and nodded.
“Yeah, I know. I was just joking, I guess I shouldn't have made such a ridiculous joke.”
The atmosphere instantly got better and we continued with our girly gist. Aria hurriedly got dressed eventhough she was already late.
Just as she finished wearing her wristwatch, a call entered her phone. She spoke a few words and her face suddenly got bright.
She thanked the caller and hung the call. She threw her phone at a corner on the bed and began to dance around the room.
“Guess what?” She said, still smiling brightly.
I shrugged, obviously bad at guessing.
“My brother already took leave for me. His engagement is in two days time so he took three days leave off for me,” she resumed her dance.
I cheered then laid on the bed, my back facing the wall, “Thank goodness, that means that we have all the night to ourselves.”
A cheeky smile displayed on her lips as she nodded.
“One more thing… I got another invite for you so we will go shop for dress tomorrow.”
As much as I was happy, a part of me feel uncomfortable with the entire arrangement. I just got back to Vegas and this feels like something too much going on.
It is a rich gathering and I will definitely feel out of place. “what are you thinking about?” Aria brought me out of my thought.
“Uhmm, nothing… just concerned,” I casually muttered.
She gave me an understanding look and laid beside me, “Don't worry, I will make sure you look very gorgeous for the event,” she made it sound like it was a big deal.
The event isn't even my business, why should I be very dolled up?
I waved off the thought and enjoyed the rest of my conversation with Aria. She told me about her trip, how she moved from a country to another but specifically, she couldn't say anything without leaving out her brother.
At the end, we got tired of talking and slept off in each other's arm. What woke me up the next morning was the loud vibration of my phone.
My first thought was that it was either a call from Dr Tonia or Grandma Lin but to my biggest surprise, it was from the hospital.
“We understand the stress of flying from a country to another, we also understand that you might need to get adjusted to your new environment. Due to this reason, we are willing to give you a month stress free holiday. Your payment and allowances will not be affected.”
My mouth dropped in shock, what the f**k did I just hear?
A month without working? And I will even be paid for it.
