Chapter 7
~Seline~
Two days later,
Today is the day I would be departing. I already accepted the offer, but that was after a lot of conviction from Master Lin. I am currently on my way to the airport, and I am already missing my baby boy. I couldn't get his passport ahead, so he would be joining me later.
The Uber driver dropped me at the airport. I was almost late for my flight. I rushed to the checkpoint and followed all the instructions I was given. A few minutes later, I was shown my seat in the business class.
“Hmmphh! Finally,” I sat, glancing out at the people moving in and out of the port. Tiredness washed over me, and before I knew it, I dozed off. Several minutes later, I was woken up by the noise of the attendant.
“Kindly fasten your seatbelt.” That repetitive statement gradually became a noise that didn't allow me to enjoy my sleep. The plane started, and as soon as cold air met with my face, I went into another round of sleep. This time around, I didn't wake up until we got to Las Vegas.
…
I stretched my sore arm, dragging my suitcase with me to the pickup station. Dr. Tonia had already arranged a drive for me; I was just waiting to be picked up. I brought out my phone to call her but was distracted by a noise from behind me.
“Seline, Seline," I glanced back but didn't see anybody. I am probably hearing things wrong.
I snickered and sat down on the bench before bringing out my phone to call Dr. Tonia. Her phone rang for a long time, but no one picked it up. 'She is probably doing her ward,’ I convinced myself and pocketed my phone.
I rested my back on the bench, and time went by slowly. Suddenly, I felt a touch on my arm. I turned around, prepared to lash out at the person, but the moment our eyes met, my mouth hung low…
“Aria?” I called out in shock; the person nodded with a big smile.
I blinked twice, even poked the cheek with my index finger, but there stood the beautiful ginger-haired girl.
“Ariiaaaa,” I finally screamed out and pulled her into a hug. Aria was my best friend in high school, but the moment we finished, we lost contact. I tried every possible way to reach her, but I was told that she was sent out of the country by her brother.
That damned man! I couldn't help but curse at him; he deserved that for separating us.
“How have you been? What are you doing here?” I asked, dragging her to the bench. We both settled down and began to talk. We spoke for so long that we lost track of time.
It was Dr. Tonia's call that brought me back to the present. I gasped as I saw the time.
“Oh my God! I am meant to resume at the clinic tomorrow. How did I forget about that?” I lamented, almost tearing up.
Aria glanced at me, looking worried and confused at the same time. “Thought you wanted to be a computer engineer. You even got admitted into Harvard to study engineering; why are you resuming at a clinic?”
I sighed. “That's a long story and not for the little time we have.”
Aria gave me an ‘are you sure’ look. I gave her a convincing smile, and she shrugged.
“I will be in Las Vegas for a long time anyways; we have all the time in the world, and we can always talk about it when you feel like it,” she said and brought out her pocket watch.
“s**t! I have to resume my night duty by 9pm, and this is 3 hours to go,’’ Aria said and stood up with urgency.
I stood up with her and gently took her hand. “My aunt already got me a new ride; it says it will arrive in the next thirty minutes. Can't you stay with me till then?”
Aria gave me a conflicted look, her lashes fluttered, before she answered, “Actually, I am a doctor, and I was told that I will be getting a roommate in the accommodation I was given today, so I need to get back to welcome her.”
Her reason sounded genuine, and I felt moved by her sincerity. I reluctantly let go of her hand, and we bade each other goodbye after exchanging contact.
It wasn't surprising that Aria is a doctor; she has always wanted to be one, so it's okay.
I used the spare time to call Grandma Lin and Sage; we spoke till my driver arrived. We finally ended the call after I promised to call them once I settled down.
“Where to, ma'am?” The driver asked, placing my suitcase in the car trunk. I gave him the paper I scribbled down the address on.
The hospital offer came with an accommodation, which I am thankful for. The driver checked the address and nodded.
We started with the journey, and I pleaded with the driver to play slow music. He played me ‘Perfect' by Ed Sheeran, and somehow, it brought back memories that I have tried to bury.
I was buried in the sad memory that I didn't know the car had stopped.
“Are you okay, ma'am?” The driver's voice brought me out of my thoughts. I smiled and quickly wiped the tear droplet by the corner of my eye.
He assisted me with my load to room number 14, and he excused himself while I placed a knock on the door.
I have been informed that two people share a room, and I am very okay with that. No one opened the door at first, but after the second knock, the door was opened, and standing there was the biggest shock of my life.
I have always heard about coincidence, but not in my wildest dream would I have thought that this would happen.
“Why are you here?” She asked after staring at each other for almost 5 minutes.
I cleared my throat and answered, “I will be the second occupant of this room.”
“So, we will be roommates?” She said, more like a scream.
“Yes. Hi, roomie.”
