Chapter Six

Aria's pov. I dreamt of Vladric's face, his eyes and his scent, it filled my nostrils and made my skin burn. I recalled running through the bushes, escaping because I could or rather because he let me but even now, it still seemed like he was over me, watching me…. “You're awake" I heard Elias's voice ring in my head while I struggled to keep my eyes open. The last thing I remembered was running through the forest and hitting something hard. And yes seeing Elias which i thought was just merely a dream. How was I back to the pack where everything started? "Elias?” I groaned on the bed. “Yes, yes baby it's me…. Don't move” his hand went over to my waist, pushing me upright. " What happened? How am I back here?” I blinked. He moved over to sit on the side of the bed. "Alpha Thorne's pack was raided, thousands were killed” he brushed back my hair. Of course I knew about that, I was one of them who died. “I was so worried about you my dear?" I turned to him and stared at his amber eyes. Something about coming back home didn't feel right, but I forced a smile regardless. Letting him squeeze my hand under his. I contemplated telling him about Alpha Valdric but then refrained. "What about the elders? Do they know…. “We caught the guard who framed you Aria,” he interrupted “and I can assure you, you are now more than welcome to the pack…." He paused “you now belong” Those were the words I had always wanted to hear. The fact that I belonged and I was accepted but somehow, something in me didn't think it felt right. "And the bushes, how did you find me in the bushes?" I asked I knew Elias to be a determined and ambitious Alpha but never the Alpha who risked himself to cross the borders and into the territory of the rogues. He sighed, oddly fumbling with his fingers. "Alpha Thorne is dead and so is half of his pack,” he lowered his head. "I was heartbroken when I found out and determined to find you when they could not find you…” he attempted a small reassuring smile as he reached for my face and tucked some strands of my hair behind my ear. As his fingers brushed past my face, I ought to feel a zing or a rush of sensation but it only made me flinch. Before I opened my mouth to say something, the door opened and it revealed a lady, dressed in fine robes, hair golden brown and flowing down to her waist. "Your highness” she called in a soothing voice and a bright smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. He turned to her “Lila." “Your presence is requested at the small council." Elias turned back to me and cleared his throat before rising up from where he sat, patting my hand. " I have Alpha duties to attend to and of course prepare for your arrival” I gave off a stiff smile. ‘prepare for my arrival’ His words took me back to the day of my coronation, how I begged but no one listened and honey own mate was quick to have me sold off. I watched Elias leave but then she didn't. I sat upright now as she stepped further inside, the bright smile vanished from her face and was replaced with an expressionless look. " You're awake” she stated. My head throbbed and I hissed calmly, bringing my hand over my temple as I tried to figure out who exactly she was. "I'm sorry, do I know you?" A smirk crawled up her lips. "I am Lila, the future Luna of this pack” Of course the elders wouldn't waste time to find a replacement and of course she would take pride in it. If I was the same as I was, the same girl who was treated like nothing, I could have lowered my head and submit to her but instead, I found the strength to climb off the bed slowly. "It's fine if you weren't informed that you no longer have a place here…." She started to say but then I cleared my throat. “Oh no you can keep it" I interrupted. "I'm sure it's such a bore that the only use of you is keeping you on the council seat to fill the space of an original like me” I caught the way her jaw ticked and lips moved, she gave a small smile with her hands right in front of her. “I heard you worked as a slave and you were never even from royalty…” sighing dramatically. "I don't expect you to act more or less…" her eyes moved down towards my hands that were already twitching. A surge of power moved through my skin and I could feel it. “you should let the maids take care of you and prepare you for the moon ball tonight” She said, glancing at me for the last time before taking her leave. It was surprising what this new life came with, a prisoner for the rogue Alpha, a new power that I couldn't understand and a warm welcome from my chosen mate who casted me out for betrayal. Maids immediately stepped in the second she was gone. They all bowed their heads. “We are here to get you ready on the Alpha's orders" I nodded, it was best to remain here than going back to where I escaped from. I watched the maid bring in dresses of different fabric colours and shoes that were decorated with stones. It seemed stranger since even when I still awaited my coronation I had never bought such expensive dresses. But now…. " My lady, we should get you ready now” One of the maids' voices brought me back to reality and my eyes scanned the dresses. "Can I wear the black dress?" I asked abruptly. The maid seems confused, convinced that a black dress wouldn't be what any normal mate of the Alpha would wear. "Well my lady there are much more beautiful dresses… “i assumed as the star of the ball, I should be allowed to wear whatever right?” "Yes my lady, but…" “Good," I said, “I'll wear the black dress and nothing more."
