Chapter Two

1036 Words
Aria's pov “Cursed omega” one spat “Look at her, a taboo itself” they all jeered. The new pack house smelled nothing like home, not that I ever truly knew one but the air was heavier, thick with cruelty and disdain, as though the walls of the palace judged my presence as well. I was dragged through the gates of Blackstone and stoned with words that painted me as the abomination that slept with a guard a day before her coronation, a cursed wolf and bad luck. My bruises still throbbed from Elias guards manhandling and the rejection still burning in my chest, more painful than any other bruise on my body. The Alpha didn't care any less, he sent me over towards the pack house for slaves the minute I was brought. Arriving in the pack house, I was met with the other slaves, maid and the one to control us. “You'll ruin us if you stay here” the slaves sneered at me as she sent me to a far corner close to where all the dirt from the barns were kept “work or starve, we don't feed strays. Especially ones with bad luck," she said out of spite. I couldn't help but nod mutely, swallowing the retort that trembled at my lips. I was tired of fighting, of trying to prove myself when I knew they saw me as nothing more than a useless omega who brought bad luck. I was given a thin mattress to lay on. The only mattress they could spare for people who betrayed their mates for their selfish desires and in the morning, when my body ached from sleeping on it, I would be faced with a much harsher work. “Faster wretch!” The sound of the bucket echoes in the empty hallways as I scrubbed the floors, my knees raw against the rough flooring and the soapy water stinging the blisters on them. “You’ll be cleaning with your tears if you don’t pick up the pace.” The guard sneered as he walked past I kept my head down, pressing my lips to form a thin line, no one would dare answer back or look either in their eyes. Silence was better even when my inside screamed and tears threatened to spill. I had accepted my fate, that I would forever remain discarded and unwanted. So as long as I remained in the Blackstone pack, I scrubbed and I swept, I carried trays that were knocked from my hands only to be ordered to clean up the mess again, small laughters followed me wherever I went. Their words cling to my skin like it was my second shadow. For food, I ate what the Alpha had remained from his plates and when he was overly satisfied with his meal, I went to sleep with an empty stomach, I was pale, malnourished but still overworked but worst was the hollow gnawing inside my stomach, Elias rejection had not killed the bond, it was only a reminder that I was unacceptable. A constant reminder that as long as I lived no one would look towards my direction. At night just like the other night's, I was sent to work, I curled up my knees to my chest in the courtyard. After I had scrubbed the warriors' shields and dumped dirty water and I sat there pondering over what my life had become, silently wishing to die. Suddenly, the hair on my neck rose, I looked around for anyone that could be behind me then I looked up to see the dim glow of the moon and the uneasy silence. Something felt wrong. A horn split the silence, then another before screams followed. “They're here!!” One of the warrior's yelled outloud, making me scramble up to my feet “Rogues… Lord Vladric's rogues” Lord Vladric. My heart skipped two beats on hearing the name ‘Vladric’ Panic erupted and wolves shifted, I heard snarls and claws ripping through skin, I could hear the Alpha barking orders but the chaos drowned his voice. Confused on what to do, I picked up my dress and ran towards the gates, leaving everything behind as I followed the rest of the wolves in their turmoil. I could escape, I could leave here and save myself, I thought. As I ran for safety I felt a hard shove that landed me roughly in the dirt, I rolled and stumbled “Leave her!” A fleeting warrior spat “she'll distract them, while we run” Realization hit me, I was a bait My fingers dug in the dirt as I tried to rise but I felt the foot of one of the warriors sending me back to the ground, my face smearing on the mud. “No.. please!” I cried as I gathered the little strength I had to rise again, to try to run and catch up. But it was too late, I looked around and every path, away from the pack house, clogged with Rogue wolves and they were all heading to where I was, I tried to run but was lunged at by a massive wolf, whose fur were as dark as night, its teeth grazed my shoulders and pain exploded through my body, I stumbled back, clutching the wound but there was nowhere to run. Another rogue slashed across my ribs and I screamed , collapsing, weak and down with pain. I watched my blood seeping into the dirt with drowsy eyes, it was warm and endless and my vision blurred the more I tried to squint. It was only when I stopped moving that they left me to die. “Help…” my voice was only a broken whisper as I felt energy draining from my body slowly before my eyes closed. Death was best, my wish was coming true, I would be with my parents and finally end my misery and somehow find peace. And as I watched the moon light dimly directly above me, the last thing I felt was a burning sensation against my face till I couldn't feel it again, till I couldn't breathe again.
