Chapter Three

Aria's pov The first thing I could sense was the silence in where I was, the type that came after a mass slaughter, like the mass slaughter that I could see quick flashes of in my head. Suffocating. It made me stir and feel the ray of sunlight seeping through the window, my eyes opened slowly adjusting to my surroundings and the feeling of silk against my skin. I wasn't lying in the dirt of the Blackstone pack anymore, in fact it was a bed, a bed too soft for a prisoner, where the sheets felt like quality silk and smelt faintly of smoke and wild berries. I tried to recall what had happened and immediately the gruesome images flashed quickly again before my eyes, screams and blood and pain. I stirred again, my body ached but not in the way it should have, I touched my ribs, expecting torn flesh and blood, instead smooth skin met my fingers, I brushed my fingertips against my shoulder wound as I remembered it but it was gone. “what.. happened to me?” I whispered, groaning My voice sounded foreign to me but worst, I could vividly hear the erratic rhythm of my heart beat, I struggled to sit upright as I looked around the room. Gothic styled architecture and walls that were painted with molten gold, the furniture were of ancient designs that made shivers run down my spine. Before I could steady my breath, the door creaked open. I caught the scent before the figure and it made my skin tingle. the smell of leather and smoke which stinged at first breath, then he entered, tall and broad, I was sure that I would be the size of a dwarf compared to him. I met his eyes and they were the colour of the storm, grey. Dark messy hair and well shaped jawline, his expression was unreadable but his aura wasn't. Vladric. Because I had seen him in drawings before. Thoughts of the name were like reciting a curse, I had also heard whispers of his name from terrified wolves around fire gatherings. The Rogue Alpha, the lycan who only left ruin in his wake as well as the monster who had slaughtered my parents. My body tensed, I wanted to scream, to lunge but Instead I gripped the sheets, forcing myself to stay still. “You're awake,” his voice was low, controlled. “The physician swore it'd take a week more.” “Why am I here?” I demanded immediately though my voice shook I catch the corner of his mouth moving upwards, not a smile but something sharper “because you didn't die” I furrowed my brow, but I did die. I remember my blood spilled everywhere and I remembered how weak I felt. Horror filled my expression “You should have” he continued as he stepped closer, eyes narrowing as though he was trying to look into my soul “my men tore into you but the moon shed light and you were breathing” The moon shed light? I did remember how it felt for the moon's light to rest on me and I did feel like I was a whole new person but there was nothing more. “I demand to leave at once, I know nothing of what you are talking about” I tried to stand up from the bed but he was already standing at the bedside. This time I was sure he was twice my age and size “Something tells me you do, little one” his body leaning towards mine, causing some kind of friction but I immediately shoved him. “And how would I know? your wolves were the ones who almost killed me..” I argued “Oh but they did” he hummed I pressed my lips into a thin line at the thought of the pain I felt during death. “Then I must be in luck for not actually dying” “You surely are” he stepped closer, leaning towards me “Stay away from me!” I said as my feet barely reached the floor when he grabbed my arm, his eyes darkened. “What are you? Little girl” What am I? The question echoed in my head, I could feel the change in my vision and heat in my veins but I couldn't let him see the doubt. “You already know” I spat “I am the rejected mate no pack wants, the cursed child you should have left to die” “Cursed.” He pursed to murmur almost to himself as something unreadable flickered in his gaze “Surely you have heard about the cursed omega” I scoffed, trying to ignore the burning feeling I felt as his hands touched my skin “Well that would have sounded intriguing” he replied, his tone steady as it was since he walked in here “I know who you are, Alpha Vladric” I started, foreign to where the boldness I had to say this came from, this was a man who could have just my head on a silver palate without hesitation “butcher of the North. The monster who slaughtered my parents..” “I am delighted you are aware of who you are dealing with” he cornered a smile as he let his grip around my arm slip. “I do and with nothing to lose either, so if you think I'll kneel to you? I'd rather die!” Silence stretched, it was thick and unbearable. “You should be careful” his tone became softer “wishing for death so loudly, the moon may decide to grant it.” My throat tightened as he turned around, his dark cloak swirling around him “you'll stay here until I decide what to do with you” “You can't keep me here,” I say, tempted to run after him. He curved his mouth again, mockingly “I already am” With that, the door shut behind him and clicked locked, I was alone again. I pressed my warm hands to my face, Had I come back from the dead only to face something much more cruel? I really meant to suffer all the time. I hated him, hated the way my body thrummed with something I didn't understand, something that made me too impulsive to stop to think about anything. “I wish I had died out there” I say to myself And now I was trapped in the lair of the wolf I despised the most, the Wolf everyone despised the most.
