Aria's pov
The walls were suffocating and I thought about dying as I sat on the edge of the fur draped bed, staring at my reflection in the mirror on the other side, my soft brown blonde hair had lost its glow and my body had shrunk into a slimmer frame.
I sighed.
The fortress was quiet now, too quiet. Every creak on the bed and wind whisper made me flinch, I half expected the Rogue Alpha to stride back in and finish what he started.
He could hang me or worse, slaughter me like how he did to my parents.
I sighed again as I could no longer bear the silence and rose up from the bed, slipping my legs down and letting them touch the cold marble flooring.
I paced the length of the room and brushed my fingertips against the bed frame and walls and window still, images of the night I died crept in my head, hunting me like it was yesterday, I shook it off and thought of Vladric.
He wasn't old like the wolves had ranted about, he was tall and dangerously beautiful, I couldn't understand him or was it the tension that built up in my chest that I couldn't understand.
Neither.
It was the way he looked at me like I was both a threat and something he wanted to have. I hated myself for it. I hated myself for not dying right there so I would have to be in his possession.
Suddenly a metallic clang echoed down the hall, interrupting my thoughts, followed by angry loud voices.
My curiosity tugged at me before my senses could stop it, I crept to the door and peeked through the
the guard posted outside had vanished.
Was I dreaming?
I tried the handle of the door and it gave in, I stopped. The narrow slit of the door gave me a view of the big hallways and the evidence that the guard watching over me had disappeared.
I opened the door as wide as I could fit through and stepped it out.
This was it, a chance to leave.
I tiptoed through the hallways and down a few steps till I halted immediately, I stormed into what looked like the council room and where all the noises were coming from. I stopped at a corner to take a peek.
It was Vladric's men and they were dragging in captives, they used strong ropes to bound them and metallic rods to hit them.
I flinched at every strike, my body pressing against the cold walls for support
The sound of steel clashing against steel echoed through the rogue fortress.
Suddenly one of them screamed out in defiance.
“You will never rule us you treacherous beast”
The guards made an attempt to strike with the rod but they ceased, my eyes followed their gaze to the throne area.
Vladric stepped into view
He carried no sword, no shield, it was just the terrible weight of his presence, I felt the air shifting and it was far more intense than the energy from Elias or even the council Elders.
“You're right” he replied evenly" I won't rule you”
And before I could blink, Vladric's hand shot out, claws ripping across the captives throat, blood sprayed the stone and his clothes and I held my breath, my trembling hands over my mouth as I watched the headless captive fall to the ground.
My stomach twisted violently as the council room fell silent.
He killed him, just like that, no hesitation nor mercy. I had heard stories, the rumours of the beast of the north who had no heart and now.
Now I had seen it for myself that he was no rumor, he was flesh, blood and cruelty.
Vladric's head turned suddenly. His eyes, storm gray and unfazed, locked directly onto mine across the distance.
My blood ran cold.
I took a few steps backwards but stumbled upon his guards, they held me still and brought me towards him and the rest of the council members.
“Would you like to join us, little one?"
I shook my head as my heart rammed against my chest.
“Well I do not see the reason why you would leave your Chambers when you don't want to join us"
I pressed my lips to form a thin line, struggling not to glance at the bloody dead body laying inches from where I stood.
“You’re afraid,” he observed, his voice flat and unreadable
“You murdered him,” I whispered, choking in my own tears that I held back “He was unarmed—”
“He challenged me.” Vladric’s expression didn’t shift while he cut me off
“Weakness cannot be tolerated. Not in my pack.”
“You’re a monster.” I whispered loud enough for him to hear
For a heartbeat, I could tell something flickered in my gaze but it was gone in an instant.
“I’ve been called worse.” he replied
He stepped forward, but I couldn't bring myself to move. Suddenly the energy between us stirred. Whatever it was, it burned my chest and pulled me towards him, like the urge to know what he was thinking and to explore him as well.
“Why are you keeping me here?” I demanded, ignoring whatever was burning in my stomach “You destroyed my family, my life. You should have killed me with the rest.”
I watched him tighten his jaw as he looked down on me, “because when I look at you, I see the key to something I cannot yet name.. and until I understand why, you stay."
My knees weakened, " I'll never be yours.”
Then he smirked, " That's what you think.”
At the same time he flicked his hand to signal the guards behind me, they moved in and suddenly, heavy silver shackles clamped around my wrist, burning against my skin.
“Lock her down,” Vladric ordered. “Until she learns to stay put”
They dragged me away but I kept my gaze on him, hatred burned in my blood streams as I was taken to a small dirty cell that was built for prisoners.
It was about time I was treated like the way I felt.
I was pushed and chained to the ground, I tried to struggle but the more I yanked against the chain the more my wrist bled.
I gave up, too tired to fight it but promising myself to kill him when I got the chance.
I would kill Alpha Vladric.
